World Day of Prayer - Palestine This year the annual World Day of Prayer is arranged by the Christian women of Palestine and so is very relevant to today’s world with the horror of war taking place in that area. The Service is jointly organised by all the churches in Cheddar and will be held at Cheddar Methodist Church on Friday 1st March at 2:15pm. Everyone is invited to join this special occasion.

Travelling abroad? An eSIM could save you money For those that travel abroad, having access to emails and apps is a must, so with roaming charges being re-introduced to Europe and costs further afield being exorbitant, it might be worth considering a travel eSIM. The traditional sim card that you put into a phone is slowly being phased out in favour of a digital sim card that is added to the mobile phone by scanning a QR code. This technology is quite exciting because on most modern (3 years old or less) touch screen mobile phones, you can still keep your existing sim card plugged into the phone but have a second phone line for travel. This additional phone line can be turned on when you travel with your usual number still active to receive text messages (free of charge). You can turn off mobile data on your main phone line and set the travel eSIM for calls, texts and data, so essentially your phone will do everything you need it to do. Within the phone settings, you have control over many functions, such as turning the first or second line off or on and choosing which line serves mobile data. Axbridge District Rotary At a recent Club meeting presentations were made to local charities/good-causes following on from the Club’s Autumn’23 events/activities. Cheques were presented to: Freewheelers EVS (Blood-bikes): Provides a free motorcycle courier service to the NHS & Air Ambulance services in the South West of England. £1100 was given as a result of the Club’s Autumn Charity Quiz Night held at Shipman Village Hall, plus other donations. Winscombe Community Association grant bid success of £300,000 We have been been granted £300,000 from the UK Government Community Ownership Fund, for our WiNSpace project for a new building and upgrade of the current Community Centre. Other grant applications currently being assessed, include £200,000 from the National Lottery and the outcome of the Parish survey regarding grant funding. We

couldn’t have done it without the support from the Parish Council and local MP John Penrose. We

These included Ash, Hawthorne, Sycamore, Cherry and Elm in the main, but we also have some Beech, Horse Chestnut, Holm Oak, Goat Willow, English Oak, Silver Birch, Hazel, Hornbean and Walnut. Of these 82 have Tree Preservation Orders attached. Unfortunately all sizeable Elms have been felled because of Dutch Elm Disease.
