Have you got your Lasting Powers of Attorney (“LPAs”) in place yet?

You need to consider making these important documents whilst you are able and have capacity to do so to ensure you are protected.
We do not know what our future holds for us and you should consider making the LPAs sooner rather than later to put your affairs in order.
LPAs need to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian (“OPG”) before they can be used and at the moment, the OPG is taking nearly five months to turn the LPAs around! This could be a problem for your family should you need assistance during that period and is another reason why you need to consider making them as soon as possible.
With Grove Wills, there is no form filling; we do everything for you. Our fees are very competitive too. Please contact us to arrange a free “no obligation” appointment to discuss further.

The company was very reliable, they turned up when they said they would, the guys that did the work were very tidy and efficient. The work was completed in the time frame they set…we are more than pleased with the finished job.

Say Goodbye to Fungal Nails with Nail Reconstruction

Are you tired of hiding your toes because of unsightly nails?
Don’t let this hold you back from showing off your feet with confidence! As a foot health practitioner, I’m here to tell you that there’s a solution to this problem - nail reconstruction. Nail reconstruction is a safe and effective method for restoring the appearance of unsightly nails. And that’s where I come in.

I’m Helen and can help you get the beautiful healthy nails you deserve. I use Pedisafe, a nail enhancing, remodelling and correction system that uses a specialised gel polymer to reconstruct your nail to look and feel just like a natural nail. The gel polymer is applied in thin layers, allowing for a customised fit that complements your unique nail shape and size. The end result is a beautiful, strong, and durable nail that you’ll be proud to show off. Pedisafe is ideal for those suffering from mycotic nails, nails damaged by trauma and can even be used as a complete prosthetic nail if there is no nail present.

As a fully qualified and insured foot health care practitioner, I trained at the SMAE Institute in Maidenhead, one of the most highly respected foot care training clinics in the country, and provide a bespoke foot care service that identifies your individual needs, treatments and ongoing maintenance.

All appointments are carried out in clinic at Kestrel Court. A full medical history and foot health assessment is carried out at the first appointment before answering your questions, discussing general foot health management and what treatments are necessary.
So why wait? If you’re tired of hiding your feet, it’s time to take action. Contact me today to learn more about nail reconstruction, schedule an appointment with me at Kestrel Court and take the first step towards confident, happy feet.

Hearing Tips from Toby Meadows, Audiologist & Managing Director at Meadows & Wood Hearing Care Centre

I regularly meet clients who struggle with tinnitus, so, I thought I would share some useful info and advice. Tinnitus is the sensation of “hearing” a sound when there’s no external source for it. Someone may sense ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling or other noises. Tinnitus is a common but often misunderstood condition that affects millions of people in the UK. It can be associated with several things including age-related hearing loss, inner ear damage caused by exposure to loud noises, more commonly though it is through a buildup of earwax or a middle ear blockage. While it does not necessarily pose any significant risks to physical health, it can cause severe mental and emotional distress due to its constant noise and disruption of everyday activities. Thankfully, there is care available that may help reduce some of the symptoms associated with this condition so that those affected by it can enjoy better a quality of life. For those seeking advice or help in managing their tinnitus symptoms, a consultation with a hearing expert is recommended so they may find the best treatment plan for themselves.
Can I easily help myself?
Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a relatively new process that has been gaining popularity. The term refers to a tingling sensation in the scalp and back of the neck that can be triggered by gentle sounds, such as whispering or tapping.
ASMR provides gentle stimulation to the auditory system through soft, soothing sounds. these sounds can help to reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality, and relax tension in the body. Regarding hearing concerns, research has shown that people who listen to ASMR have reported reduced symptoms of tinnitus. How could I do it?
Getting started with ASMR is relatively simple – all you need is access to some sort of audio device (e.g., a smartphone or laptop) and a quiet environment to listen in. There are many different types of ASMR content available free online, from podcasts to YouTube videos you’re sure to find something that suits your preferences. Just listen quietly in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the soothing sounds.
Does your computer need an MOT and your devices updating? Have you allowed somebody to work on your computer remotely after a random phone call?
We like to use the term “MOT” in relation to computers. Whilst not a legal requirement, it is worth having your equipment checked once a year. Over time, issues tend to occur, but sometimes don’t show themselves, so typically computers tend to get slower and also things happen which can leave the computer at risk.

If you have not had a computer professional check your equipment for over a year, it is worth booking in a service visit. We understand that your computer may not have any visible issues, but things can simmer in the background, so it’s worth having things checked before it is too late. We often get calls saying that the computer will not switch on and that it has been working fine up until now. Computers tend to go wrong without any warning, but with the right measures, this likelihood can be greatly reduced.
We offer a service where “we come to you” so no need to disconnect equipment. Simply book us in, and we will visit and give you honest advice on any requirements which will ensure that your system is safe and the computer continues to work reliably. We can also check your phones and tablets to make sure all is well.
Have you ever had a phone call from “Microsoft”, or similar, whereby somebody remotely works on your computer. Companies like Microsoft / Apple / BT / Openreach and so on would never cold call and ask to remote control your computer.

If this has happened to you, please get in touch as it is likely that your computer may have been compromised, even if the phone call seemed very plausible. If there is a text file on your desktop with contact details, this is often a sign that a scam remote session has happened. You would have been given false information, and possibly charged a fee, but unfortunately, this is not genuine. We can undo the “work” that these scammers created and make the machine safe again.

How incontinence can affect mental health
Here at Arelle, we know from speaking with our customers how incontinence can directly affect mental health – whether that’s the daily anxiety of managing incontinence in public or the more profound psychological and emotional effects of incontinence which can impact every aspect of life. Some of the indicators we regularly come across include:
– feelings of embarrassment and worry.
– withdrawal from activities and social plans.
– mood swings.
– difficulties in sleeping, or irregular sleep routines.
– problems with relationships or job performance. So if any of these signs are familiar to you, or someone you know, there are several things you can do to find help:
– Contact a support organisation like Bladder Health UK, Bladder and Bowel UK or Bladder and Bowel Community. Apart from a wide range of resources and helpful information, they often offer services such as local support groups and ‘phone-pals’, as well as online and telephone support.
– Get a ‘Just Can’t Wait’ card, which is recognised and supported by many retail and service
organisations, giving you access to toilets not normally available to the general public.
– If you are disabled, you can get a Radar Key which offers independent access to many locked public toilets around the country.
– Connect with a social media support group –such as the Facebook group coordinated by the Bladder and Bowel Community – it can help to know that others are going through the same thing.
– Talk to your GP, who can advise and refer you to specialist services if required, and a practice nurse can give you practical advice on how to manage incontinence.
– Talk to those you trust. Getting some emotional support from those around you is crucial if you are struggling.
And should you need advice about the products to help you manage any continence issues, please do contact us. Unlike many other suppliers, we have over 20 years of experience to talk you through all your product options and help you find solutions to suit you, and ultimately help improve your quality of life.

Your 7 day Countdown To A Fun Easter
#7 Tidy up! Before you do anything else, you need a tidy home and clean kitchen. Put things away, recycle old newspapers and plump the cushions. To ensure a wonderful result with your cooking, your kitchen and its appliances need to be spotless. The last thing you want is your wonderful Easter Roast to taste of the last few weeks dinners. Get that cooker clean: either do it yourself or call OvenGleamers, a professional oven cleaning service to gleam it for you.
#6 Choose the menu. Will you have fish, lamb or a nut roast? Fish is traditionally eaten on Good Friday. Early Christians said that the day of Jesus’ crucifixion should be one of abstaining from meat, so they had fish instead.
#5 Invite your family and friends to join in. Easter is a great time for families and friends so plan something fun. Did you know where we got the Easter Bunny from? Experts say the 18th century when some Germans settled in America. They called him Osterhase because he lay brightly coloured eggs in nests in the bonnets of children.
# 4 Get shopping. Prepare that list and pop down the supermarket or even easier shop online and get it all delivered.
# 3 Plan the weekend’s activities. Set up an Easter Egg hunt in the house or the garden. Children love finding eggs anywhere!
#2 Get the cooking prepared. Now you’ve a lovely clean kitchen, get baking. Have you got some oven liners to help you? Great for lining roasting tins, baking biscuits on or to catch drips. OvenGleamers can supply these too.
#1 Hurrah you’re there. Food planned, friends and family on their way and fun events sorted. But if all else fails – try the National Trust for Easter Trails, buy the ready prepared dishes from your favourite supermarket and watch ‘Easter Parade’ on the TV to put you in the mood. Happy Easter. For that gleaming cooker, AGA or Range, just call me today: Graham Rogers, OvenGleamers now on 01275 370571

Local Pill Festival Band has openings for beginners

Pill Festival Band is an established local band which plays music of various types for fun. We are a training band and have players of all abilities and ages. If you are starting to learn a musical instrument and can play even only a few notes why not come along to our Beginners group 6pm on Monday nights and play with others in a
friendly and supportive group? We may be able to help with a loan instrument or recommend a teacher. See www.pfb.org.uk for more info.
A “Thank You” to the 2022 Poppy Appeal volunteers
At a recent buffet evening to thank local Poppy Appeal volunteers, Jasmin Duffy from Pill was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by branch Chairman Berkeley Harris and Poppy Appeal organiser Sue Quinn of Portishead Royal British Legion. Jasmin made and sold Poppy themed hair slides around Pill, helping the branch to raise £37,878.65p in 2022. Unable to join the Army herself due to an injury, Jasmin wanted to help support friends who had joined up. The Poppy Appeal provided a means for her to do that. Well done Jasmin.
