“Fantastic responsive service. It’s the 2nd time I have used central roofing and on both occasions they turned up on time got on with the job and kept us informed on what was being carried out. Went above and beyond and assisted me in issues around insurance. I would recommend this company to anyone with roofing issues.”

GRP • FIBRE GLASS • FLAT

We used Central Roofing to take down an old flat roof and install another on our business premises at Knight Brothers Garage. The company was very reliable, they turned up when they said they would, the guys that did the work were very tidy and efficient. The work was completed in the time frame they set…we are more than pleased with the

job. Karen

What Happens During a Hearing Test?

‘Hello’ to our dear friends from Toby, Claire, Emma, Sam, and of course, Charlie the dog, at Meadows & Wood Hearing Care.

We understand that attending your first hearing test can feel a bit daunting. At Meadows & Wood, we strive to provide expert hearing care in a relaxed environment, ensuring you receive the best possible advice and service.

Upon arrival at one of our clinics, you will be greeted by a friendly team member and invited into our comfortable waiting area. An experienced Audiologist will then introduce themselves and discuss your concerns, symptoms and any family history of hearing loss.

The hearing test begins with an otoscopy to examine your outer ear and eardrum, checking for blockages or other concerns. Next, a tympanometry test will evaluate the functioning of your middle ear. This is followed by a pure tone audiometry test, where you’ll wear headphones and be asked to respond to a series of sounds at different frequencies and volumes. This helps determine your hearing threshold and identify any potential hearing loss. We will also conduct a word recognition test to evaluate your ability to understand speech at various volume levels.

Following these tests, your Audiologist will explain the results to you in detail. If hearing loss is detected, they will discuss potential treatment options, which may include microsuction, hearing aids, or even referral to other medical professionals. Our Audiologists can also fit hearing aids during your appointment, allowing you to leave with improved hearing straight away.

We’re here to help you. As North Somerset’s only full-time, independent family audiology clinic, we would be pleased to offer you a free hearing check-up and have a chat about your hearing. Contact details are below.

Where do people go wrong when buying a computer?

We often visit new customers who have previously bought a computer without advice from an experienced IT professional. There are some factors that stand out repeatedly, which could heavily reduce your use or enjoyment of the equipment.

The most common issue seems to be lack of disk space. Generally, we recommend that the absolute smallest disk space requirement should be 250 gigabytes (GB) as having a disk a small as 64 or 128 gigabytes can often cause issues. Whilst some data can be stored on the cloud to avoid taking up disk space, people often do not want to pay the monthly or annual charge to store their data elsewhere. If you are planning to buy a new computer, check what your current storage requirement is and make sure your next machine has enough to cope with this, plus more space to cope with your future storage requirements. With solid state drives being more prevalent now, the older style SATA magnetic disks often had much greater storage capability than many modern computers offer.

Another issue is poor quality processors (CPU). Typically the cheapest modern Windows computers contain an Intel Pentium processor, but the minimum choice these days should be Intel i3 or Ryzen 3 processor.

It is also worth checking, before you buy, if the computer can be upgraded. Some machines do not allow the existing storage to be replaced, as the hard drive is soldered to the motherboard. Also some computers do not have a spare memory slot, so there is no chance of upgrading the RAM.

We always advise that people speak to an independent computer retailer, as these companies tend to be well aware of the pitfalls of buying computers. Ideally you want to buy a system that can easily be upgraded, should the need occur.

There are many of you with Windows 10 or older computers that are in need of upgrade, so please consider the above when you are planning to replace hardware. Apple users should also carefully check specification, as often the cheapest option is not the right one longer term.

For those that would like some local help, we specialise in the needs of existing computer users who wish to move to new equipment, offering an in-home service. Please see our advert on this page, or contact myself Neil Buzzard on 07973 536299 or email sales@e-cps.co.uk

Dream Doors celebrates 25 years with £250 voucher giveaway

Local kitchen makeover company, Dream Doors, recently celebrated their 25th anniversary, and they’re asking their followers to submit their favourite family recipe, or memory in the kitchen over this time.

The company have seen kitchen trends and popular styles change over the past 25 years, but one thing remains the same is that the kitchen space is the heart of any home. This campaign encourages customers to reminisce on their favourite times, with one lucky winner being gifted a £250 food shop voucher to recreate their favourite recipe.

Dream Doors began trading in 1999 and now has 90 showrooms nationwide, with their North Somerset showroom opening in 2012, after finding a gap in the market for affordable kitchen makeovers that caused minimal disruption to the home. By simply replacing the doors and drawer fronts, Dream Doors allows you to completely revamp your space, for up to 50% less than a fully fitted kitchen. Avoiding the unnecessary removal of the cabinets allows for their fitters to be in and out in as little as 2-3 days, meaning customers can be enjoying their new kitchen in no time!

Dream Doors also have a commitment to sustainability, providing kitchens that benefit both the homeowner, and the planet. By actively encouraging customers to reuse their existing cabinetry, and ensuring all materials removed are disposed of responsibly, Dream Doors North Somerset are making every effort to reduce the impact to the environment made by the kitchen industry.

Do you have a memory to share? Visit the Dream Doors Facebook page to enter!

Why not visit our showroom at 5 The Precinct, Brinsea Road, Congresbury, Somerset BS49 5JG to see how you can start your kitchen makeover journey. There you can view a wide range of kitchen doors styles and colours, as well a selection of modern appliances, storage solutions, and lighting options, to complete your kitchen makeover.

Fruit & Nut Bark – a great gift to make for Christmas

Ingredients

75g cup walnuts

450g good white chocolate, finely chopped

75g dried cranberries

75g medium-diced dried apricot

Directions

• Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.

• Using a pencil, draw an 8-by-10-inch rectangle on a piece of parchment paper. Turn the parchment paper over so the pencil mark doesn’t get onto the chocolate and place it on a sheet pan.

• Place the walnuts in one layer on another sheet pan and bake for 8 minutes. Set aside to cool.

• Place three quarters of the white chocolate in a heat-proof glass bowl and put it in the microwave on high for 30 seconds.

• Stir the chocolate with a rubber spatula, return it to the microwave for another 30 seconds, then stir again. Continue to heat and stir in 30-second intervals until the chocolate is just melted.

• Immediately stir in the remaining chocolate and allow it to sit at room temperature, stirring often, until it’s completely smooth. (If you need to heat it

a little more, place it in the microwave for another 15 seconds.)

• Pour the melted chocolate onto the parchment paper and spread it lightly to fill the drawn rectangle.

• Sprinkle the top evenly with the cooled walnuts, the cranberries, and apricots. Press the nuts and fruit lightly so they will set in the chocolate.

• Set aside for at least 2 hours until firm or refrigerate for 20 minutes.

• Cut or break the bark in 16 pieces and serve at room temperature.

Great as Christmas presents – present in a small box or cellophane bag tied with a pretty ribbon. Enjoy.

PS: If you need me to clean your cooker before Christmas, please call me Matt, OvenGleamers, on 01275 370571

Clevedon Care need additional volunteers as demand for service increases

Clevedon Care is a registered charity run by volunteers since 1988. We help people in the BS21 postcode area access medical appointments within Clevedon and further afield. We’re getting busier (approximately 2,800 journeys requested in 2024 so far) and we need more help. If you could help by answering phones & booking journeys in our centrally located office or by driving, either locally or further afield, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
