Having issues with your internet speeds?

Often we get calls from customers with slow broadband. Sometimes the speed coming into the property is the problem, but often Wi-Fi problems limit the speed. One thing to be aware of is that your broadband provider will have a minimum speed guarantee (there are some exclusions) but it is worth finding out if you have this guarantee in place. Give your provider (i.e. BT/Sky/Talktalk and so on) a call and ask them what is the your guaranteed minimum speed. They should give you a download speed, which could be say 20 mbps.

The best way to test this is using a modern device right next to the main router and by using a speedtest app or website such as “Speedtest by Ookla” which is on the Android/Apple App store, or for computers users you can access it at www.speedtest.net - run a test and note down the download speed. Is this speed slower than the minimum speed guarantee? If so, it would be worth ringing your provider and seeing if they can improve the situation. Also some providers can offer much better speeds than others in the same area – here are a list of the fastest broadband products in the local area: Openreach (full fibre) accessed via BT/TalkTalk/ Sky, Gigaclear, Truespeed & Virgin Media. Not all addresses are serviced by these companies but it’s worth checking on their websites.

Potentially, the further away from the router you are, the slower the speed will be, so it is important to get the correct Wi-Fi boosting technology for Wi-Fi to work well around the house.

The Medici: Bankrolling The Italian Renaissance

North Sedgemoor Local History Group new programme begins

The first presentation of the 2023-24 season will be on 11th October when Iain Miles will talk to us about ‘the Land of the Summer People’ - drainage of the levels in the 19th and 20th centuries. The time is 7:00pm - 9:00pm, the venue King Alfred School Lecture Theatre. Membership is £10 per season, visitors £5 per session. Parking is in visitors car park or in small car park front of main building. Please bring a torch on dark nights as site lighting is not good in some places.

Sad Loss for Brean & Berrow Residents’ Association

Brean & Berrow Residents’ Association are saddened to announce the sudden death of its Chairperson, Robert Parker, on 29th July, who suffered a severe heart attack whilst on a visit to London.

Robert had been a stalwart and dedicated member of B&BRA for many years and will be sorely missed.

We are indebted to the medical and nursing staff of St. Thomas’ Hospital, Westminster, and paramedics, who worked tirelessly to save his life. There will be a Remembrance Service for Robert, he was a very talented man and we are sure he will be missed by so many.

The Service will take place on Sunday 15th October at 3:00pm, St Mary’s Church, Berrow. All those who new Robert will be most welcome. For further information please get in touch with Anne Reed. 01278 789364.

Self Storage for Halloween Costumes and Props

When October comes round, most people think of one thing. Whether you love it or hate it, Halloween is usually the first thing that springs to mind when the Autumn comes round. Children will be keeping their fingers crossed for a dry evening on Halloween so they can dress up as their favourite character, go out looking for decorations and houses to knock on hoping for a treat or two.

It is important to remember that whilst some people love the idea of excited children in little ghost and witch costumes knocking on their door, not everyone feels the same. The general rule is do not knock on the houses without any decorations, but if you see a pumpkin or a scary ghoul hanging outside then that’s usually a welcome sign to knock as the homeowner is likely to have a bowl of sweets waiting for your visit. Halloween can be a fun time for many, but it’s also an important reminder to remain respectful to those who may not enjoy it quite as much. If, however, you do go all out and decorate your whole house and are throwing a big fancy dress party, then you may need somewhere to store your costumes and props until next year as I’m sure not many people have the space to store life size mummy statues.

It might be a practical solution to put your Halloween attire away in self storage, where it is safe and dry until you need it again for your next fancy dress party. That is, of course, if you want to. You may choose to wear your Count Dracula outfit the next time you’re visiting your Mother in Law, and that’s also ok. Make sure you remember to wash your outfits before storing them, we all know how the fake blood can stain literally anything it touches, so wash and dry your outfits before putting in to storage.

So have a fun Halloween and remember to look out for pumpkins or a sign of an invitation when choosing which house to knock on.

The Pashy Pops return in November for their war show - ‘Underneath the Lantern’, come along and join in the spirit of the 40s and enjoy the live music - FREE entry.

DECEMBER

We are now taking bookings for our Festive dining throughout December, with live entertainment every Friday and Saturday in the lead up to Christmas. (Festive Dining menu and prices are available to view on our website or on our Facebook Page).

We also have a Christmas themed murder mystery booked in this festive period. If you’re looking for a different, exciting Christmas party for you and your colleagues, or even your friends and/or family this year why not try our murder mystery, Friday 15th. (Festive murder mystery price and menu are different to standard festive dining. Murder Mystery includes a 3 course meal which is a set menu, as well as exclusive entertainment available only to ticket holders at £34.95pp.)
