✅ There are four valves in the heart – aortic valve, mitral valve, tricuspid valve and pulmonary valve.
✅ The aortic valve is the main gatekeeping valve that allows the blood to be pumped out of the main pumping chamber, left ventricle to the aorta and then the blood is taken to the rest of the body.
✅ As we age, the aortic valve may get degenerated or narrowed. In some people, it might be caused due to inborn errors.
✅ When the aortic valve is critically narrowed, surgery was the only solution for a long time. But in the last 20 years, a successful alternative has come to light.
✅ Transcatheter valve therapy is done for treating the narrowed aortic valve. Once the patient is assessed and this treatment is deemed possible for them by the heart specialist, a valve mounted on the catheter is inserted through the groin or a blood vessel under the collarbone. The valve is then implanted in a particular place.
