START THE NEW YEAR WITH CLARITY, COMFORT, & RENEWED WELLBEING

A new year always arrives with a sense of possibility. It invites us to reset, rethink, and reimagine the way we care for ourselves. While many resolutions focus on fitness goals or diet plans, true wellbeing begins with something more fundamental: giving attention to the parts of ourselves we often overlook. Our ears, our eyes, and our overall sense of balance deserve just as much care as the rest of the body. Entering the year with intention can set the stage for lasting clarity, comfort, and vitality.

Hearing may not be the first aspect of health we think about, yet it plays a profound role in how we connect with the world. Modern life is filled with noise, from bustling streets to earbuds delivering music and podcasts directly into our ears for hours a day. Over time, this constant exposure can affect hearing sensitivity in ways that are easy to miss. A simple habit of checking the volume on personal devices, taking occasional breaks from headphones, and being mindful in loud environments can help protect hearing for the long term. Regular hearing checks are just as important as any annual health review, especially for those who work in noisy settings or find themselves frequently asking others to repeat what they have said. Early awareness allows for early action, and this year offers a perfect moment to make that commitment.

Our eyes are equally essential, giving us the ability to move confidently through the world, appreciate beauty, and absorb information at every turn.

Yet they too are challenged by modern habits. Hours spent staring at screens can leave eyes feeling dry, strained, and fatigued. Simple changes, such as remembering to blink more consciously and looking away from screens at regular intervals, can make a difference. Natural light, when available, offers a refreshing reset, helping the eyes relax and refocus. Routine eye examinations are important even for those who do not wear glasses, as they can reveal early signs of conditions that benefit greatly from timely attention. This year, giving your eyes the rest and care they deserve can help preserve comfort and clarity as life continues to move at a quickening pace.

Beyond individual senses, caring for the whole self may be the most transformative commitment of all. True health is not simply the absence of illness but a sense of harmony between body, mind, and lifestyle. Many people begin January feeling determined, yet the pressure to make dramatic changes can be counterproductive. Sustainable wellbeing grows from small, consistent habits. Setting aside time to move in enjoyable ways, whether through walking, stretching, dancing, or structured exercise, helps support both physical and emotional health. Nourishing the body with balanced meals, adequate hydration, and enough sleep lays a steady foundation for energy and resilience. Equally important is the need to create space for rest and reflection. Modern life pulls us in many directions, but the act of pausing can restore clarity and calm.

Emotional health is just as essential as physical wellness. Staying connected with others, asking for support when needed, and grounding ourselves in routines that cultivate joy can help create a more balanced year. Whether through journaling, reading, creative hobbies, or spending time outdoors, making room for activities that soothe the mind can be just as valuable as any fitness plan. The New Year does not require perfection, only presence and gentle attention to what makes one feel well.

As we step into the months ahead, caring for our ears, eyes, and whole self is an investment in vitality that will carry us far beyond January. Health is not a resolution to achieve once but a relationship to nurture continually. With steady, mindful choices, this year can become one of clarity, comfort, and renewed wellbeing.

GUT HEALTH: MORE THAN A BUZZWORD

Gut health may be everywhere right now, but it isn’t a passing trend. We should care because poor gut health has been shown to contribute to a wide range of conditions, including hormonal imbalances, mood disorders, autoimmune disease, skin conditions and even neurological illnesses such as Parkinson’s and ME.

My interest in gut health didn’t begin in a clinic – it began in my own body. Poor digestion was the starting point of my decline into chronic ill health. It began with bloating, progressed to acid reflux (GERD), and by the age of 23 I had my first endoscopy. A year later, following a virus, my immune system was so compromised that I lost 11 years of my life, eight of which I was virtually bedridden. That experience ultimately led me to retrain as a naturopathic nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner.

One of the most important lessons I learned early on is that there is no universal “gut-friendly” diet. What supports one person’s gut can significantly worsen another’s symptoms. IBS is a good example: advice depends entirely on what is driving it –yeast overgrowth, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), histamine issues or poor gut motility. Likewise, what I would recommend for Crohn’s disease looks very different to the support needed for GERD.

Naturopathic nutrition and functional medicine focus on identifying root causes rather than masking symptoms. This involves personalised nutrition, lifestyle changes, targeted supplementation and functional lab testing. We look closely at stomach acid, bile and enzyme production – all essential

for breaking food down properly – and assess the balance of microbes in the gut, a delicate ecosystem that influences immunity, inflammation and hormone regulation.

So how do you know how your gut is functioning?

Start from the bottom up. Your stools are one of the clearest indicators of digestive health. Ideally, bowel movements should be easy to pass, well-formed, mid-to-dark brown, sink, flush easily and occur one to three times a day. Bloating, reflux, pale or floating stools suggest imbalance. We normalise symptoms far too often, but symptoms are the body’s way of asking for support.

My Top 5 tips for supporting digestion:

• Drink fluids around an hour away from meals to optimise digestive juices

• Stimulate digestion at the start of meals with bitter greens such as rocket, watercress or chicory

• Chew food well (around 20 times per mouthful) and eat away from screens, including the TV

• Avoid snacking and allow at least four hours between anything calorific to support the gut’s natural cleansing cycle

• Gradually increase vegetable intake to around seven portions a day, choosing a wide range of colours and opting for low-FODMAP vegetables if you have IBS

Gut health isn’t about trends or extremes. It’s about understanding your body, respecting individuality and addressing imbalance before it becomes disease.

SUPPORTING SENSATIONAL CHILDREN

Hello, I’m Denise, I am an occupational therapist, working for 25 years with children and young people. I will be offering a Saturday service, every Saturday morning at the Alderley Edge Counseling and Psychotherapy Centre: 28a London Rd, Alderley Edge SK9 7DZ Contact@wstltd.co.uk

What services do I provide?

As a Children’s Occupational Therapist (OT), I help babies, children, and teens build the key skills they need for everyday life—the stuff we call “the job of living.” My main goal is to help a child become as independent as possible and join in fully with all their daily activities, or “occupations,” whether they’re at home, school, or out in the community.

My Core Areas of Focus

As a children’s Occupational Therapist (OT), I help children grow and develop the skills they need for their everyday lives. Here’s a quick look at what I focus on:

● Self-Care Skills (Daily Life Stuff): I work on getting children independent with essential routines – think mastering buttons, zippers, and laces, using cutlery neatly, going to the toilet on their own, brushing their teeth, and getting washed.

● School Success: I tackle the challenges that impact learning, such as neat handwriting, using scissors effectively, getting organized, and staying focused in the classroom.

● Playtime and Friends: My goal is to boost a child’s ability to play well with peers, handle playground equipment, and fully enjoy their hobbies, sports, and other fun activities.

● Movement and Coordination:

○ Fine Motor: This is all about strengthening and coordinating the small muscles in the hands, which is key for holding toys, writing, and using tablets or computers.

○ Gross Motor: (This involves the larger muscles, which is super important for an OT, covering things like running, jumping, and overall body coordination.)

● Sensory Smarts: I support children who are either over-sensitive (things feel too intense, like certain textures or loud sounds) or under-sensitive to sensory input. The aim is to help them manage those responses so they feel safe, calm, and can function better in their environment.

● Gross Motor Skills

○ This is all about getting better at those big muscle movements that help with balance, coordination, and physical stuff like running or jumping.

● Social-Emotional Regulation

○ I focus on teaching practical ways to handle frustration, understand what others mean, and build great relationships.

How I Work: Practical & Just For Your Child

I use lots of practical, hands-on ways to help, always making sure they fit exactly what your child needs:

● Getting to Know Your Child: I start by looking at what your child is great at and what they find tricky. I do this by watching them play, using fun, play-based activities, and sometimes a few official tests.

● Therapy Time (One-on-One & Groups): I work on specific goals through fun, play-based tasks, either just your child and me, or in a small group.

● Making Spaces Work Better: I can suggest simple changes to the setup at home or school to make things easier for your child to move around and join in.

● Recommending Special Tools: This might involve suggesting helpful items like comfy special chairs, weighted vests, communication cards, or grips for pencils.

● Helping You and the Teachers: I offer tips, advice, and simple activity plans for parents and teachers so you can keep supporting your child’s progress every day.

Who I Work With?

As a paediatric Occupational Therapist, I’m here to help children and young adults with their development, right from when they’re born up to age 25. That includes supporting those with different conditions. What I do covers:

● Differences in how children develop, like if they have Autism (ASD), ADHD, or Cerebral Palsy.

● Challenges with learning or general development.

● Physical health, such as genetic syndromes or physical disabilities.

● Injuries they’ve picked up, maybe a brain injury from an accident or a broken bone.

● Children who have experienced emotional or psychological trauma

NEW YEAR, NEW SMILE

What We’re All Wondering About Our Teeth in 2026

As we step into 2026, conversations around health and wellbeing are shifting. People are focusing less on dramatic resolutions and more on the simple, sustainable habits that genuinely improve everyday life. And somewhere between gym memberships and mindfulness apps, one area of wellbeing is finally getting the attention it deserves: our dental health. Your mouth is the gateway to your overall health, impacting everything from confidence to heart health – yet it’s often overlooked until something hurts. So, this New Year, at Alderley Edge Dental we’re shining a light on the questions the public are really asking, from the genuinely important to the delightfully relatable.

Your Dental Health Q&A for 2026:

Q: Is sugar actually the biggest danger to your teeth – or is it something else?

A: Sugar is a major culprit, but the biggest danger isn’t the amount … it’s actually the frequency. Every time you snack on something sugary or acidic, your teeth encounter an “acid attack”

lasting up to an hour. Constant grazing keeps the mouth in a damaging cycle where enamel can’t recover. So, it’s not about cutting all sugar, but limiting how often your teeth are exposed to it. The best advice we give to children (and adults alike) is to keep any sweet treats, fizzy or diet drinks to meal-times. And in-between meals stick to regular water.

Q: What’s the truth about whitening –is it safe, or can it damage your teeth?

A: Professional whitening is very safe when carried out by qualified dental professionals using regulated products. It works by gently breaking down the stains into smaller particles and results in your teeth looking brighter. The specialist gels release large quantities of oxygen free radicals (which whiten the teeth) over a short period of time, therefore whitening teeth both quickly and safely. When done correctly, whitening doesn’t strip enamel, it simply removes discolouration. Around 70% of patients will experience tooth or gum sensitivity which will fully resolve after the whitening treatment is completed.

Q: Are mouthwashes helpful, harmful, or just expensive minty water?

A: It depends on your level of risk, the type of mouthwash and how it is used.

● Fluoride mouthwashes can help strengthen teeth and are certainly beneficial for people at high risk of decay. But… the mouthwash should be used at a separate time to brushing for an extra fluoride boost, such as after lunch.

● Chlorhexidine mouthwashes are for short-term use only, in cases of gum infection but these shouldn’t be used daily as they can cause tooth staining and destruction of the good bacteria.

● Mouthwashes containing alcohol should be avoided for a number of reasons, mainly due to their irritation effect and disruption to your oral microbiome, but there is also a link with oral cancer when using alcohol-containing products.

● In summary, mouthwashes are useful if you have a specific concern but is not essential for

everybody and does not replace brushing and flossing. Read the label on the mouthwash bottle and ask your dentist for their tailored advice for you and your family.

Q: Do baby teeth even matter if they fall out anyway?

A: Absolutely! Baby teeth matter immensely for a child’s overall health. Not only do baby teeth hold space for adult teeth, they help children to eat, speak, and smile confidently. Baby teeth may be temporary, but they have a permanent impact!

Untreated decay in baby teeth can lead to pain, infection, disrupted sleep, and even longterm dental anxiety. If you are worried about your child’s teeth, please bring them along to meet our friendly dentists. As parents ourselves, we understand your worries. We believe education is key and we encourage questions from both parents and children.

Q: Why is dental health so strongly linked to overall health and life expectancy?

A: Your mouth is the gateway to your body! In fact, your mouth is the beginning of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract, where the first stage of digestion takes place. It’s super important to look after the good bacteria here too. Recently, gum disease has been strongly linked to heart disease, stroke and even Alzheimer’s. This is because chronic inflammation in the mouth, like swollen gums, can trigger or worsen inflammation throughout the body. Additionally,

poor oral health can lead to an increase in “bad” bacteria which can make their way into your bloodstream via your mouth.

Good dental health isn’t just about a beautiful smile… a healthy mouth is a sign of a healthy system!

Q: Why does one piece of popcorn have the power to ruin an entire evening?

A: Popcorn remains one of dentistry’s most notorious troublemakers! Popcorn shells are perfectly shaped to wedge themselves under the gum, where they act like tiny splinters. The good news: most pieces can be safely removed with flossing or interdental brushes. While the occasional un-popped kernel lies in wait, daring you to bite down and test the strength of any filling! The good news: we love fixing teeth!

Q: If teeth could talk, what would they say about our snacking habits?

A: Probably something like: “Seriously … another biscuit? Raisins again?Tiny little sugar ninjas everywhere! Please give us a break!” Saliva is a superpower, acting as your mouths natural defence! Teeth are happiest when there’s time between meals, for your super saliva to neutralise acids and repair enamel. Avoid little and often, frequent snacking keeps teeth under constant attack!

The Good: vegetable sticks, cheese, plain yoghurt, nuts, seeds, low-sugar fruits like berries & apples, milk, water, sugar-free gum, unsweetened black & green tea

The Bad: refined carbohydrates (bread / crackers), diet drinks, “no added sugar” drinks (a secret source of sugar!) , flavoured yoghurts, chocolate

The Ugly: dried fruits, chewy sweets, fizzy drinks, energy drinks, granola bars, fresh orange juice, fruit smoothies

Looking After Your Smile in 2026

As we move through 2026, the message is simple: looking after your teeth isn’t about perfectionit’s about prevention, consistency, and support. Whether it’s keeping on top of routine check-ups, asking questions you’ve been meaning to ask for years, or simply building better daily habits, small steps really do make a big difference to long-term dental health and oral wellbeing.

We support patients with both function and confidence, offering everything from preventative care to dental implants, as well as cosmetic options such as Invisalign and veneers, always with a focus on what’s right for the individual.

Our membership clubs are designed to make dental care straightforward and stress-free, with regular check-ups, hygiene visits, and preventative care all included. We even offer a kids club, to ensure healthy habits start young.

And for anyone who hasn’t seen a dentist in a while, you’ll find a warm, understanding team

ready to help. No judgement, just support. This New Year, if dental health is on your family wellbeing list, we’d love to welcome you into our practice and help you keep your mouth healthy for many years to come.

Strong teeth, healthy body, happier you. Good oral health is so much more than a smile!

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

Every January, humanity collectively dusts off its optimism, pours a fresh cup of hope, and announces, “This year will be different.” Sometimes it is. Sometimes it isn’t. But as 2026 tiptoes in wearing party glasses and a questionable amount of confetti, people around the world are once again making promises to their future selves.

Interestingly, this year’s resolutions aren’t wild or dramatic. No one is vowing to become a monk, a marathon runner, or a morning person (okay, maybe a few brave souls). Instead, 2026’s most popular resolutions revolve around three gentle ambitions: money that behaves, bodies that move, and minds that breathe. Let’s take a look at the Big Three.

1. I WILL BE NICER TO MY MONEY

At the top of the list for 2026 is a resolution that sounds suspiciously like adulthood: saving more, spending smarter, and finally dealing with debt.

People aren’t dreaming of winning the lottery anymore – they’re dreaming of checking their bank apps without flinching. The goal isn’t luxury; it’s peace. Peace from overdraft alerts. Peace from mystery subscriptions. Peace from wondering where all the money went when you swear you didn’t buy that much coffee.

In 2026, financial resolutions are practical and oddly tender. People want to build emergency funds, chip away at debt, and maybe – just maybe – have a little left over for joy. It’s less “get rich quick” and more “let’s not panic on the 15th of every month.”

Think of it as financial self-care: budgeting with compassion, saving with intention, and forgiving yourself for that one impulsive online purchase at 2 a.m.

2. I WILL MOVE MY BODY (BUT NOT PUNISH IT)

Coming in a close second is the perennial favorite: health and fitness – though in 2026, it’s wearing softer sneakers.

Gone are the days of punishing workout plans and extreme transformations. This year’s vibe is movement for the sake of feeling good. Walking more. Stretching. Dancing in the kitchen. Choosing stairs sometimes. Eating vegetables without declaring war on carbs.

People are less interested in sculpting abs and more interested in having energy at 3 p.m. The goal is sustainability: routines that fit into real lives, not fantasy schedules with unlimited free time and zero stress.

Fitness in 2026 is about listening to your body instead of yelling at it. It’s about strength, flexibility, and waking up without feeling like you slept in a medieval torture device. Progress, not perfection – preferably with good playlists.

3. I WILL PROTECT MY PEACE

The third most popular resolution is quieter, but powerful: prioritising mental health and work-life balance.

After years of hustle, notifications, and being “on” all the time, people are craving stillness. They want better sleep. Fewer doom-scrolling sessions. More moments that don’t involve screens, deadlines, or background anxiety.

In 2026, people are resolving to rest without guilt, say no more often, and stop treating burnout like a badge of honor. Mental health is no longer an afterthought –it’s a headline goal.

This resolution might look like therapy, journaling, meditation, or simply logging off earlier. It might mean choosing joy over productivity once in a while. Radical, we know.

THE TAKEAWAY

If 2026 had a motto, it might be: “Be kinder — especially to yourself.” Kinder with money. Kinder with bodies. Kinder with minds. These resolutions aren’t about becoming someone new. They’re about taking better care of the person you already are — one small, hopeful step at a time. And if you stumble? Well, there’s always 2027.

REWILDING AT THE EDGE:

FINDING INSPIRATION IN ALDERLEY EDGE FOR A NEW YEAR OF NATURAL GARDENS

There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over the Alderley Edge countryside – a quiet woven not from silence, but from the soft, constant murmur of life at work. It drifts in with the breeze that skims across the sandstone ridge, gathers beneath the canopies of ancient beech and pine, and pools in the deep shadows of the woodland.

Alderley Edge has always held a certain mystique, but its true magic lies not in legend alone – it lies in the way landscape and life entwine so effortlessly here. For anyone searching for inspiration to rewild their own garden in the New Year, this is a place where ideas take root almost instantly.

Where the Countryside Breathes

Wildness

Alderley Edge rises modestly above the Cheshire Plain, yet what it lacks in altitude it makes up for in drama. On a crisp winter morning, the hill seems to glow—russet bracken rustles beneath bare branches like embers of a fading fire, and the exposed sandstone gleams in shades of honey and ochre. In the distance, the patchwork of fields softens into mist, giving the impression of a landscape slowly exhaling.

Walking the woodland paths, you notice how the Edge is never over-manicured. Fallen branches are left where they lie, allowing mosses and fungi to reclaim them in velvety greens and unexpected bursts of orange. Pools collect between tree roots, mirroring the sky in fractured reflections.

The National Trust’s careful stewardship here is subtle; nature leads, humans follow.

This is the first lesson Alderley Edge offers the aspiring rewilding gardener: wildness thrives when allowed a little untidiness, a little freedom. Perfection, it turns out, is overrated.

The Art of Letting the Land Lead

What makes Alderley Edge so compelling is its sense of natural choreography. Trees cluster

where light permits. Ferns unfurl in damp hollows. Birdsong crescendos and fades like a shifting soundtrack. Everything grows according to opportunity, not obligation.

Translating this into a domestic garden doesn’t mean surrendering to chaos. Instead, it means paying attention to the needs and desires of the land itself. Where does the rain linger after a downpour? Which corner receives the last golden sweep of afternoon sun? Where does the wind slip most eagerly through the fence?

Rewilding begins with observation – something Alderley Edge invites instinctively. Spend time in your garden over the New Year months simply watching. January may seem dormant, but it’s rich with subtle cues: the first snowdrops nosing through the soil, the direction earthworms pull fallen leaves, the faint presence of fox tracks in the frost. These are the signals that will guide your rewilding journey.

Welcoming a Tapestry of Life

One of the most captivating features of the Alderley Edge woods is the density of life hidden within them. Beneath the thick carpet of leaf litter, beetles tunnel industriously. Robins flit confidently close to walkers, their red breasts catching the low winter light like sparks. Squirrels spiral up towering trunks, leaving faint scratches that tell of daily routines.

A rewilded garden aims to replicate this tapestry of interdependence. Even the smallest patch of earth can become a thriving micro-ecosystem. The New Year is an ideal time to plan – and even begin implementing – certain changes.

Practical Tips Inspired by Alderley Edge

1. Plant a “Layered” Garden

Think like the Edge itself: trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and groundcovers all working together. By layering plants of different heights and textures, you create shelter and food for birds, insects, and small mammals. Tall layers could be fruit trees or native species such as hawthorn; mid layers might include flowering shrubs like hazel or cotoneaster; and ground layers can host wildflowers, ferns, or native grasses.

2. Leave Some Leaves

Instead of tidying everything away, designate a corner where leaves can gather naturally. This creates shelter for hedgehogs, invertebrates, and amphibians – small creatures that form the foundations of a healthy ecosystem.

3. Embrace Deadwood and Logs

Rather than removing fallen branches, leave some logs or twigs in corners. Deadwood becomes a

mini-habitat for fungi, beetles, and insects, which in turn attract birds. Stacking logs creatively can also become a rustic wildlife feature or garden sculpture.

4. Plant for Pollinators

In the springtime edges of the Alderley woods, bluebells, foxgloves, and wild garlic erupt into bloom. In your garden, choose nectar-rich plants that bloom sequentially through the seasons, such as lungwort, comfrey, knapweed, scabious, or red campion, to keep pollinators visiting all year.

5. Welcome Water

Natural springs and damp hollows at Alderley Edge are alive with midges, frogs, and dragonflies. A small pond – even a water-filled ceramic bowl –can attract birds, amphibians, and insects, bringing movement and life to your garden in even a modest space.

Embracing the New Year’s Sense of Renewal

Winter on the Edge has a distinctive clarity –a sharpened stillness that seems almost medicinal. The trees stand skeletal yet resolute, their branches tracing delicate patterns against pale skies. Life, coiled tightly underground, waits patiently for spring.

This season mirrors precisely what rewilding is about: trusting that life knows how to flourish if given space. The transformation of a garden may be gradual, but the rewards unfold in layers: the first bumblebee queen of spring humming sleepily over your flower beds, the rustle of grasses swaying against one another, the flash of a goldfinch alighting on a seed head you chose not to prune too early.

Alderley Edge as a Blueprint for Beauty

The more you wander Alderley Edge, the more you realise that its beauty lies not in order but in honesty. It is a landscape shaped by wind, water, stone, and time – and gently tended by people who understand that nature flourishes most powerfully when given room to express itself.

Rewilding your garden in the New Year is not about creating chaos or abandoning structure. It is about welcoming nature’s rhythms, embracing diversity, and allowing plants and wildlife to interact in ways that spark renewal. Even a small patch of earth, given thoughtful observation and gentle care, can echo the wild grace of Alderley Edge.

As you stand atop your own garden ridge, shovel in hand or simply observing, you may discover a piece of Alderley Edge within your home – its mystery, vitality, and endless capacity for growth.

WEIRD & WONDERFUL SIDE THIS

NEW YEAR

In Alderley Edge, where the line between tasteful restraint and joyful extravagance has always been deliciously thin, the homes of 2026 are quietly – and sometimes not so quietly – rewriting the rules. It began, as many things in the village do, with a rumour whispered over brunch at The Bubble Room: someone, somewhere on Macclesfield Road, had installed a ceiling so enchanting that visitors left with a slight crick in their necks and a renewed belief in decorative plasterwork.

The story travelled faster than a dropped name at the local wine bar, and soon everyone wanted to know what was happening behind the polished gates and discreet hedges. Something was shifting. Something was blooming. And, most intriguingly, something was getting decidedly weird – but in that uniquely Alderley way that still felt tasteful and quietly expensive.

The home at the centre of the whispers belonged to a woman named Clarissa Wintle, a former fashion buyer with an eye for the unusual and a love of the dramatic pause. Her Georgian house, set modestly back from the road, had always been known for its symmetry and impeccable hydrangeas. But inside, 2026 had lain a gentle, creative hand on everything.

Visitors noticed it first in the colours. Gone were the cool greys and pale creams of the last decade. In their place were enveloping shades that seemed to have wandered in from a Tuscan hillside — terracotta, olive, warm clay, all somehow settling into

the English light without complaint. Clarissa insisted the colours “felt grounded,” though one guest had murmured that they also felt like they were encouraging him to drink more red wine, which Clarissa took as a compliment.

The furniture, too, had softened its angles. Curved sofas drifted across the rooms like sculptural clouds, inviting conversation and the occasional slow fall into a nap. Tables had rounded corners and

reassuring heft, as though they had been carved by someone who valued both craftsmanship and the ability to rest a wine glass securely. Even the doorways, once primly squared off, now possessed a subtle arch, giving the feeling that one was walking between scenes of a quietly theatrical play.

But it was the textures that made people linger — and sometimes, without meaning to, stroke the walls. Hand-trowelled plaster added soft shadows to the light; woven rugs overlapped in relaxed confidence; earthenware pots stood proudly imperfect, each one wearing its slight wonkiness like a designer coat. Clarissa had begun sourcing pieces from small makers around Cheshire, claiming she could feel the “humanity” in them, though her husband maintained

what she really felt was the thrill of discovering something no one else had yet Instagrammed.

And still, there was the feature wall. In the dining room — the famous room that began the rumours — the painter had created a mural inspired not by mythology nor heavenly frescoes but by the Alderley

forest itself. Oak leaves drifted across the mural in soft, deep greens, and if one looked closely, tiny copper foxes lounged among the branches. They were subtle, refined, and just whimsical enough that diners occasionally paused mid-forkful to make sure their wine hadn’t grown unexpectedly strong.

By spring, Clarissa’s home had become a quiet ambassador for a new Alderley aesthetic: elegant but relaxed, earthy but luxurious, a little wild but always with good manners. Neighbours began to experiment too — a curved sofa here, a dramatic rug there, whispers of terracotta edging their hallways. Advisory chats at parties became laced with gentle admissions: “I’ve added texture,” someone might confess, or “I’m considering an arch,” spoken with the solemnity of a life decision.

And so, Alderley Edge entered 2026 not with a shout, but with a beautifully textured murmur – a village embracing its weird and wonderful side, still refined, still knowing, but newly enchanted by the pleasure of homes with soul.

Our Journey of Passion
From humble, honest beginnings, Hästens has grown into one of the world’s most prestigious brands. Yet ours is a story bound by one thing. Love.
Pehr Adolf Janson, founder, 1st generation

Nestled in the forests of central Sweden, Hästens has been handcrafting beds since 1852.

Founded by master saddler Pehr Adolf Janson, the company evolved from equestrian saddlery into sleep-making – a transition that left horsehair, linen, wool and meticulous stitchwork at the heart of its craft. What began as a practical pursuit became a philosophy: that true comfort is engineered slowly, by hand, using nature’s finest materials.

Across six generations, the family atelier in Köping has preserved traditional techniques where hundreds of hours of hand sewing, layered natural

fillings and solid timber frames come together to create beds designed for both durability and breathability. Every Hästens bed is still made in-house, reflecting a steadfast commitment to craftsmanship over mass production and a belief that quality improves with time.

In 1952, Hästens was appointed Purveyor to the Swedish Royal Court, a distinction that cemented its standing as a national treasure and signalled its ascent into the world of luxury. Yet despite its royal endorsement, the brand remains understated –confident in its heritage rather than driven by trend.

Its instantly recognisable blue-check pattern, introduced in the late 1970s, has since become a

symbol of Swedish design excellence, marking each bed as a product of precision and provenance. Today, Hästens occupies a unique space between furniture and functional art. Each mattress is handlayered with curled horsetail that acts like thousands of tiny springs, finished with tailored ticking and designed to be repaired rather than replaced.

For discerning clients in Cheshire’s Golden Triangle, Hästens represents more than a bed –it is an investment in heritage, wellbeing and the enduring value of things made properly.

The Present

Hästens’ story now continues closer to home with the arrival of its Wilmslow showroom, bringing more than 170 years of Swedish craftsmanship to the heart of Cheshire’s Golden Triangle. Long admired by design-led homeowners and wellness-conscious clients, the brand’s presence reflects the area’s growing appetite for interiors defined by quiet luxury and enduring quality.

Located on Wilmslow’s increasingly high-end Water Lane, the showroom sits among a new wave of premium destinations reshaping the town’s retail landscape. The space offers an immersive introduction to Hästens’ philosophy of sleep, where beds are not chosen hastily but carefully tailored to

the individual. Visitors are encouraged to experience the brand’s natural materials – including horsehair, wool, cotton and flax – and to understand how each layer works in harmony to regulate temperature, relieve pressure and support restorative rest.

The Wilmslow showroom is owned by Bradley Podbur, whose vision is to introduce Hästens as a considered lifestyle investment rather than a conventional retail purchase. He is joined by showroom manager Jake Lewin, whose expertise guides clients through a personalised fitting process, ensuring each bed is refined to suit both body and lifestyle. Together, they bring a discreet, service-led approach that mirrors Hästens’ own values.

Set against Wilmslow’s reputation for craftsmanship and refined living, Hästens on Water Lane marks a natural meeting of Swedish heritage and Cheshire sophistication “where there is a Hastens for everybody’’ says Jake.

A Tailored Introduction

Call in to the Hästens Wilmslow showroom on Water Lane to browse the collection and experience the craftsmanship firsthand, or book a personal shopping appointment for a more tailored introduction. Whether you are curious to explore the materials, understand the fitting process

or refine your sleep in detail, the team offers a discreet, unhurried service designed around you. Appointments allow for dedicated time with a sleep advisor to ensure every element is considered, from comfort and support to design and finish. An invitation to discover sleep, done properly.

The Latest Chapter

Keep an eye on Cheshire’s Golden Triangle website, cheshiresgoldentriangle.com, for exciting updates about Hästens’ integration into the local community. Plans are underway for a series of networking collaborations, connecting design, lifestyle, and wellness enthusiasts across the region. The highlight will be a champagne reception in February, celebrating Hästens’ arrival and its commitment to Cheshire’s Golden Triangle. The event promises a stylish gathering, offering the chance to meet the team, explore the showroom, and experience the brand’s signature craftsmanship. It’s set to be a sparkling introduction to a new chapter in local luxury and lifestyle.

EAT.COOK.SHOP.

SUSTAINABLE FOOD

Sustainable food is no longer a niche concept reserved for eco-enthusiasts – it has become a defining feature of modern dining, shaping how many residents of Cheshire’s Golden Triangle choose to eat, shop, and cook. What makes this movement so exciting locally is the way it blends luxury with responsibility. Here, sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing pleasure; it means elevating it.

At its core, sustainable food is about honouring the journey from soil to plate. It considers how ingredients are grown, how far they travel, how they’re prepared, and how little is wasted along the way. In practice, it’s a mindset that supports healthier ecosystems, thriving communities, and more flavourful food. And in Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, and Prestbury, this ethos is starting to define a new standard of quality.

Cheshire’s strong agricultural roots give the region a natural head start. Increasing numbers of farms are embracing regenerative techniques — building richer soil, increasing biodiversity, and raising livestock with higher welfare standards.

One standout example is Horseshoe Farm, just outside Alderley Edge. Long known to locals for its free-range eggs, home-reared meats, and seasonal

fruit and vegetables, the farm focuses on keeping food miles to an absolute minimum. Shoppers can pick up produce grown mere metres from the farm gate, supporting a truly circular local economy.

This farm-to-table approach becomes even more inspiring when it reaches the restaurant scene.

The Alderley Restaurant, nestled within the Alderley Edge Hotel, has built its reputation on showcasing impeccably fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The head chef works closely with Horseshoe Farm, bringing its seasonal produce directly into the kitchen. Herbs and edible flowers are clipped from the hotel’s own gardens, and menus change with the rhythms of the region.

It’s sustainability expressed not as a duty, but as creativity – a way to serve dishes that are more vibrant, more rooted, and unmistakably Cheshire.

Reducing waste is another cornerstone of sustainable eating, and many local venues are getting clever with the details. Root-to-leaf and nose-to-tail cooking are becoming more common, turning what was once thrown away into imaginative culinary highlights. At home, residents are adopting simple habits such as composting, batch cooking, and using refill

stores, proving that individual choices can make a meaningful difference.

There is also a growing shift towards plantrich dining. This doesn’t mean abandoning Cheshire’s famed dairy or expertly reared meats, but rather balancing plates with more vegetables, grains, and pulses. When combined with highquality, locally sourced animal products, this approach supports wellbeing while easing environmental impact — without compromising on indulgence.

What sets the Golden Triangle apart is its ability to make sustainability feel stylish, approachable, and genuinely enjoyable. Whether you’re picking up a loaf from a local bakery, dining at a restaurant that champions regional producers, or simply choosing seasonal vegetables for supper, each small act contributes to a bigger picture.

Sustainable food here isn’t a trend; it’s a celebration — of the land, the producers, the creativity of local chefs, and the community that values all three. In Cheshire’s Golden Triangle, eating well and doing good are beginning to taste wonderfully alike.

CELEBRATING NEW YEAR WITH AROMATIC MEATS

Nothing says celebration quite like a table piled high with delicious, aromatic meats, and New Year’s is the perfect excuse to indulge. Across the globe, certain meats aren’t just tasty – they carry a little extra meaning for the year ahead. Take pork, for example. In many cultures, pigs are symbols of progress because they root forward as they eat. Slow-roasted pork with a crackling skin or a honey-glazed ham isn’t just mouthwatering – it’s a statement that the coming year is all about moving forward in style, and who can resist a Thai crispy pork stir fry?

Beef is another favorite for ringing in the New Year. Rich, tender, and indulgent, it represents strength and abundance. Whether it’s a perfectly seared filet mignon, a hearty roast, or fall-off-the-bone short ribs, beef has a way of turning any gathering into an unforgettable feast. Poultry, too, holds its own. From golden roast chicken to herb-stuffed turkey, a whole bird on the table evokes family, wholeness, and luck. Aromatic herbs like rosemary, thyme, and sage infuse the meat with warmth and a festive scent that fills the house long before the first toast.

For those who want to add a touch of luxury, lamb is a showstopper. A leg of lamb roasted with garlic, lemon, and a hint of rosemary offers a rich flavour that’s as comforting as it is celebratory. And let’s not forget seafood. A whole baked fish, plump shrimp, or lobster not only adds elegance to the table but also carries the symbolism of prosperity and fortune – a beautiful way to start the year on a high note.

Pair any of these meats with vibrant sides – lentils for luck, leafy greens for prosperity, or a sweet glaze for indulgence –and you have a feast that’s both meaningful and irresistible. With the right centerpiece, the New Year isn’t just welcomed; it’s celebrated in full flavor, aroma, and style.

TIPS:

If you like it spicy, add more fresh chillies or a dash of chilli flakes.

You can swap bell pepper with green beans or baby corn for variety.

THAI CRISPY PORK STIR FRY

Here’s a quick and easy Thai Stir Fry recipe you can make in about 20–25 minutes:

Ingredients (2-3 servings):

● 250g (½ lb) crispy pork belly, sliced thinly (store-bought roasted pork belly works great)

● 1 tbsp vegetable oil

● 3 cloves garlic, minced

● 1-2 Thai red chilies, sliced (adjust to taste)

● 1 small onion, sliced

● 1 bell pepper, sliced

● 2-3 tbsp Thai basil leaves (optional but recommended)

● 1-2 tbsp soy sauce

● 1 tbsp oyster sauce

● 1 tsp fish sauce

● ½ tsp sugar

Method:

1. Prepare the pork: If your pork isn’t already crispy, pan-fry slices over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until golden and crispy. Set aside.

2. Sauté aromatics: In the same pan, heat 1 tbsp oil. Add garlic and chilies, stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.

3. Add veggies: Toss in onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry 2–3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.

4. Combine: Add crispy pork back to the pan. Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar. Mix well to coat everything evenly.

5. Finish with basil: Add Thai basil leaves and stir just until wilted.

6. Serve immediately with steamed jasmine rice.

FILET MIGNON

Steak for a special occasion - elegant, not complicated.

Ingredients

(for 2 steaks):

● 2 filet mignon steaks (about 6-8 oz each, 1.5-2 inches thick)

● Salt and freshly ground black pepper

● 1-2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil

● 2 tbsp butter

● 2-3 garlic cloves, crushed

● Fresh thyme or rosemary sprigs (optional)

For extra flavor, you can finish the steaks in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes after searing.

Method:

TIPS:

Don’t overcrowd the pan – cook in batches if needed.

Serve with a simple pan sauce: deglaze the skillet with red wine or beef stock and a pat of butter.

1. Bring to room temperature. Take the steaks out of the fridge 30-60 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking.

2. Season generously. Pat the steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

3. Preheat the pan. Heat a heavy skillet (cast iron works best) over mediumhigh heat until very hot. Add olive oil and let it shimmer.

4. Sear the steaks. Place the steaks in the pan. Do not move them for 2-3 minutes. Sear each side until a rich brown crust forms (about 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, depending on thickness).

5. Add butter and aromatics. Reduce heat to medium. Add butter, garlic, and thyme/rosemary. Tilt the pan slightly and baste the steaks with melted butter using a spoon for 1-2 minutes.

6. Check doneness. Use a meat thermometer:

■ Rare: 120-125°F (49-52°C)

■ Medium-rare: 130-135°F (54-57°C)

■ Medium: 140-145°F (60-63°C)

Filet mignon cooks quickly, so keep an eye on it!

7. Rest the steaks. Remove from the pan and let rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows juices to redistribute.

8. Serve. Slice if desired, drizzle with pan juices, and enjoy with your favorite sides (like mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a simple salad).

GARLIC PRAWNS

For Good Luck.

Ingredients (Serves 2-4):

● 500 g large prawns, peeled and deveined (leave the tails on if you like for presentation)

● 4-5 garlic cloves, finely chopped

● 2 tablespoons olive oil

● 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

● 1 small red chilli (optional, for a bit of heat), finely sliced and a sprinkle of sesame seeds

● 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

● 1 teaspoon paprika (optional, for colour and a symbolic touch)

● Juice of ½ a lemon

● Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

● Lemon wedges, to serve

Optional Lucky Touches:

Red chilli: Red is considered lucky and symbolises prosperity

Garlic: Traditionally thought to ward off negativity

Edible Gold Leaf: A tiny sprinkle adds a festive touch and symbolises wealth

Method:

1. Prepare the prawns: Pat them dry with kitchen paper. This helps them sear nicely and get a lovely golden colour.

2. Heat the pan: In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil and butter over a medium heat until the butter melts.

3. Cook the garlic (and chilli): Add the chopped garlic (and chilli if using) and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

4. Cook the prawns: Add the prawns in a single layer. Sprinkle with paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until pink and opaque.

5. Add lemon and parsley: Squeeze over the lemon juice and sprinkle with fresh parsley. Toss gently to coat.

6. Serve immediately: Serve with lemon wedges and, if you like, crusty bread or steamed rice.

7. Serve in a circle: Arranging the prawns in a circular dish symbolises abundance coming full circle.

RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR

FROM CHESHIRE TO THE CELTIC CORNERS

There’s something truly magical about New Year in the UK – a moment when the old year drifts away and the promise of new beginnings sparkles in the air. Across England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, celebrations blend centuries-old traditions with modern revelry, creating a unique tapestry of joy, reflection, and anticipation. Whether you’re in the bustling streets of London, the charming corners of Cheshire’s Golden Triangle, or the windswept coasts of Scotland and Wales, the start of the year feels like a collective heartbeat of optimism.

England: Festive Streets and Cheshire’s Golden Triangle Charm

In England, New Year’s Eve is all about laughter, fireworks, and community. London’s iconic celebrations are world-famous – millions gather along the Thames to witness a breathtaking pyrotechnic display over the London Eye, accompanied by the resonant chimes of Big Ben. But for many, the magic is found in smaller towns and villages, where traditions run deep, and the party is as much about togetherness as it is about revelry.

Cheshire, particularly the area affectionately known as the “Golden Triangle” – which includes the towns of Alderley Edge, Prestbury, and Wilmslow – offers a distinctly charming English New Year experience. Here, the celebration feels intimate yet luxurious, with candlelit dinners in boutique hotels, cozy fireside pubs, and the hum of lively conversations as families and friends gather to mark the year’s end. Locals have a playful tradition of “sneaky snowballing” on the Edge, where friends and neighbors toss snowballs from the safety of hidden hedges – a mischievous way to inject some frosty fun before heading to the evening’s festivities.

Another quirky tradition is the “golden toast” in Wilmslow, where friends compete to bring the most unusual toast topping to the table – anything from Marmite on toast to smoked salmon, sparking laughter and lighthearted debate about what counts as “festive enough” for the new year.

Across the country, it’s also traditional to host house parties where “Auld Lang Syne” – the song made famous by Robert Burns in Scotland – echoes warmly, reminding everyone to cherish

old friendships while embracing the promise of tomorrow. In northern England, some families still practice ‘first-footing’, where the first visitor after midnight brings coal, bread, or whisky. In a quirky twist, one Cheshire village once reported a local lad delivering a whole mini Christmas tree as his firstfoot gift – luckiest household of the year, apparently!

Scotland: Hogmanay’s Fiery Spirit

Crossing the border into Scotland, New Year becomes Hogmanay – a festival of fire, music, a nd sheer exhilaration. Unlike a typical New Year’s Eve, Hogmanay is steeped in centuries-old traditions and carries a sense of ritual alongside revelry. Edinburgh hosts one of the most spectacular celebrations in the world, with torchlight processions, ceilidh dancing in the streets, and a fireworks display that lights up the historic skyline. The energy is infectious, and even locals who have seen it year after year admit it never loses its magic.

At the heart of Hogmanay also is the first-footing custom where the first person to enter a home after midnight brings symbolic gifts – traditionally coal,

shortbread, salt, or whisky – to ensure luck and prosperity for the household. A beloved anecdote comes from Inverness, where a local man, dressed in full kilt regalia, once tried to first-foot five houses in one night – tripping over a snowbank mid-toast but winning everyone’s hearts with his determination.

Streets fill with revellers singing, dancing, and toasting to the year ahead, often continuing the festivities well into January 2nd, a reflection of the Scottish commitment to both celebration and community. In the Highlands, New Year can take on a mystical quality: imagine bonfires flickering under star-filled skies, whisky in hand, and the echoes of bagpipes carrying across snow-dusted hills. One village even hosts a “torch swim” in a frozen river—locals brave enough to dip in holding flaming torches, cheering each other on in a heart-pounding ritual of bravery and tradition.

Wales: Music, Myth, and Community Spirit

In Wales, New Year celebrations blend the warmth of community with a touch of mythic charm. Welsh towns and villages are known for their eisteddfodstyle musical gatherings, where choirs and local bands perform traditional songs to welcome the new year. In some areas, particularly in the north, unique customs persist, such as serenading neighbours with the “Calennig,” a practice of singing door-to-door for good luck. In Denbighshire, one enterprising family famously turned this into a mini parade with cowbells, lanterns, and homemade masks –drawing curious spectators who cheered them down the street.

Welsh New Year’s Eve is also a time for storytelling and reflection. Families gather around the hearth to share tales from the past year, often with a playful twist. In Cardigan Bay, locals recount the story of “Old Man Winter,” a cheeky character said to sneak into homes to swap one household item for another – ensuring laughter and surprises before midnight. Coastal towns, from Llandudno to Tenby, offer dramatic seaside celebrations where bonfires illuminate the shoreline, adding a touch of elemental magic to the festivities.

Ireland: Joyful Revelry and Celtic Traditions

Across the Irish Sea, New Year in Ireland is a joyous mix of music, dance, and tradition. Dublin, Cork, and Galway all host lively public celebrations, but the real charm is found in local pubs and town squares, where communities gather for a night of singing,

storytelling, and ceol – traditional Irish music. One memorable Galway anecdote involves a group of friends forming a human “conga line” that snaked around Eyre Square for hours, drawing locals and tourists into spontaneous dancing in the snow. Ireland’s first-footing tradition has an Irish twist: stepping into the new year with a glass of porter or whiskey and a piece of coal to bring warmth and prosperity. Many also practice the Celtic custom of writing down worries or regrets on a piece of paper and burning it at midnight, symbolically clearing the path for the year ahead. In a small Kilkenny village, a family reportedly burned their list in a kettle over the fire – creating a mini spectacle that ended with a puppy dashing through the smoke, sending everyone into fits of laughter.

Common Threads: Fire, Music, and Renewal

Despite regional differences, some threads tie the UK together during the New Year. Fire and light are recurring motifs, from Edinburgh’s bonfires to seaside fireworks and Cheshire’s twinkling village lights. Music and song – whether Scottish bagpipes, Welsh choirs, or Irish fiddles – create a soundtrack of joy and optimism. And at the heart of every celebration is the human desire for renewal: to say goodbye to the past, welcome the future, and do so surrounded by community, family, and friends.Food and drink, too, play a central role. Across the UK, celebratory meals are an occasion to indulge: from rich puddings and roasted meats to champagne and whisky toasts. Even small gestures, like sharing a mince pie or a glass of mulled wine, carry the warmth and generosity that mark the season. In the Lake District, one quirky tradition involves leaving a mince pie on the windowsill for passing snowmen – an imaginative nod to whimsy and local humour.

The Spirit of the UK: Togetherness and Optimism

What makes New Year in the UK truly special is its dual nature: it is both a personal and communal experience. Whether in Cheshire’s elegant Golden Triangle, the historic streets of Edinburgh, the Welsh

valleys, or the Irish countryside, people find moments of reflection and joy. It’s a time for looking back with gratitude and forward with hope, for laughter that echoes across streets and hills, and for shared experiences that forge memories lasting a lifetime. From ancient customs to modern parties, from small villages to capital cities, New Year in the UK is a celebration of life itself. It reminds us that no matter where we are, we are part of a larger story – a story of renewal, resilience, and the simple, profound joy of coming together. And as the fireworks fade and the last notes of “Auld Lang Syne” linger in the air, the message is clear: the new year is bright, full of possibility, and waiting for each of us to write our own chapter.

So whether you find yourself raising a glass in a Cheshire manor, dancing in a Scottish street, singing in a Welsh village hall, or laughing in an Irish pub, the spirit of the UK’s New Year is unmistakable: warm, lively, hopeful, and entirely unforgettable.

RICHY THROWER

Richy Thrower is a compelling new voice in British filmmaking whose life story reads like a cinematic journey in itself. A former British Army serviceman, entrepreneur, podcast host, and self-taught filmmaker, Richy uses his lived experience to shape powerful, truth-driven films that give a voice to veterans and others whose stories often go unheard.

Early Life and Military Service

Born in November 1992 in Crewe, Cheshire, Richy Thrower joined the British Army at just 16 years old – a decision that would change his life forever. By the age of 18, he was deployed to Afghanistan, facing some of the harshest realities of frontline conflict. These intense early experiences left a deep imprint on him, shaping his outlook on life, trauma, and resilience.

After several years of service and an eventual medical discharge, Richy’s transition back to civilian life was tumultuous. Like many veterans, he struggled with PTSD, identity loss, addiction, and the emotional fallout of reintegrating into daily life after service. At points, his journey saw him face homelessness and deep personal challenges.

Rebuilding and Becoming a Filmmaker

Despite these enormous challenges, Richy’s resilience became the foundation of his next chapter.

He rebuilt his life from the ground up, eventually creating multiple successful businesses and dedicating himself to helping others facing similar silent battles.

passion for filmmaking. With no formal training, no film school background, and no industry connections, he taught himself every aspect of production—cinematography, editing, directing, storytelling—driven by a single purpose: to tell authentic stories with emotional depth and realworld impact.

found Motion Focus Media, a production company dedicated to emotional, real-world storytelling and inspire conversation.

The Last Letter: A Turning Point

In 2025, Richy released The Last Letter, a short film created as a proof-of-concept piece to demonstrate the tone, style, and emotional impact he hopes to bring to much larger projects. The film explores the inner turmoil and isolation many veterans face long after they leave service. It serves as both an artistic expression and a powerful tool to raise awareness around veteran mental health.

Richy’s motivation for The Last Letter wasn’t simply to tell a story, but to open eyes and hearts – to help audiences understand the hidden burdens that many who served continue to carry. The film’s emotional weight and raw honesty aim to create empathy and provoke meaningful dialogue.

Crack On: The Feature Film Ahead

Building on the momentum of The Last Letter, Richy is now focused on his most ambitious project yet: Crack On, a feature film slated to begin shooting in the first quarter of 2026.

Crack On is more than a narrative film – it’s a mission-driven piece designed to raise awareness of the mental health challenges, systemic failures, and personal battles many veterans endure after service. Inspired by Richy’s own experiences and those of his peers, the film aims to portray these issues with unflinching honesty and emotional power.

Unlike typical war movies or dramatized tales, Crack On focuses on life after the uniform comes off. It seeks to break down stigma, highlight the cracks in existing support systems, and spark change in how veterans’ mental health is understood and treated.

A Purpose Beyond Cinema

Richy’s vision with Crack On goes far beyond filmmaking. He aims to build a movement – one that uses film as a catalyst for social change. Profits from the project are intended to support veteran causes across the UK, helping those still struggling to access the help they deserve.

In Richy’s own words, the goal isn’t merely to create a compelling film – it’s to start real conversations, challenge outdated perceptions, and ensure untold stories finally get told.

WHAT 2026 MEANS FOR YOUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS IN CHESHIRE’S GOLDEN TRIANGLE AND WHY NETWORKING

MATTERS

As 2026 approaches, small businesses across Cheshire’s Golden Triangle – spanning Prestbury, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, and Knutsford – are stepping into a period of accelerated opportunity. The region continues to attract investment, high-net-worth residents, and innovative enterprises, creating a competitive yet fertile environment for growth. For local businesses, 2026 represents a turning point: consumer expectations are rising, digital transformation is no longer optional, and customers increasingly favour brands with strong community presence and trusted reputations.

In this landscape, standing still means falling behind. Businesses that adapt – whether through enhanced customer experience, expanded services, or more strategic use of digital tools – will be best positioned to take advantage of the region’s growing economic momentum.

Yet the most significant shift is the increasing importance of connection over competition. As the local market becomes more dynamic, networking and collaboration are no longer “nice to have” – they’re essential.

Networking opens doors to shared knowledge, referrals, and partnerships that small businesses simply can’t generate in isolation. The Golden Triangle’s strength lies in its dense concentration of entrepreneurs, specialists, and creators. By engaging with this network, business owners gain access to real-time insights, trusted recommendations, and collaborative opportunities that reduce risk and accelerate growth.

Walton Gardens

Collaboration multiplies those benefits. Joint events, cross-promotions, bundled services, and strategic alliances help businesses reach wider audiences while offering more value to local customers. When small businesses support one another, the entire community becomes stronger, more resilient, and more attractive to new customers.

In 2026, success in Cheshire’s Golden Triangle won’t rely solely on individual excellence – it will be driven by the ecosystem you’re connected to. Those who invest in relationships, share resources, and show up for their community will thrive in one of the UK’s most vibrant local economies.

How CGT Networking will play a huge part in 2026

In 2026, CGT Networking will be a cornerstone for small business success in Cheshire’s Golden Triangle. The region’s businesses face increasing competition, higher customer expectations, and rapid technological change, making connection and collaboration essential. CGT Networking provides the platform to meet like-minded entrepreneurs, share expertise, and uncover opportunities that might otherwise remain hidden.

By bringing together businesses from Prestbury, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, and Knutsford, CGT Networking enables members to form strategic partnerships, collaborate on events, and crosspromote services. These connections not only increase visibility but also build trust among local customers, who increasingly favour businesses embedded in a supportive community. The sharing of insights, industry trends, and practical advice helps businesses adapt faster, innovate smarter, and avoid common pitfalls.

In addition, CGT Networking fosters a culture of collaboration over competition. In an ecosystem where relationships are currency, businesses that actively participate can leverage collective knowledge, resources, and referrals to grow sustainably. For small businesses in Cheshire’s Golden Triangle, CGT Networking isn’t just a networking group – it’s a catalyst for resilience, growth, and long-term success in a thriving, highvalue market.

By 2026, engagement with CGT Networking will be a defining factor in who thrives locally.

Who is CGT Networking?

My name is Jacqui Priestley and I am the publisher and editor of this magazine and also the force behind the new, modern, ‘pay as you go’ networking group – CGT Networking. It is a little ‘different’ in that there are no targets, no stress and no pressure, just book and pay £25 each time you can attend, and enjoy great food, great company and a room of opportunity – it really is that simple!

CGT Networking, was established to connect businesses and entrepreneurs across the Golden Triangle — Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Knutsford, Prestbury and nearby areas.

It is well known that I have ties to BNI through my involvement with a BNI chapter (notably ‘BNI Wilmslow’), and I am proud to have been recognised for my efforts — for example, being named among the “Top 3 Visitor Inviters for BNI UK” for more than one month, and also responsible for launching a brand new chapter BNI Prestige in Alderley Edge.

My work helps small businesses in the region gain visibility, referrals, and collaborative opportunities — especially useful in a wealthy, dynamic area like the Golden Triangle, where connections and reputation count. In short, I strive to provide the platforms that help build our community — making networking more inclusive, actionable, and locally focused… not to mention fun and friendly!

Working in partnership is Debbie Boardman, known as the “Networking Queen of the Golden Triangle,” who leads Sovereign Properties with a personalised approach to high-end residential and equestrian properties. Beyond her property expertise, she actively hosts networking events and leverages social media to connect clients, professionals, and local businesses. Her ability to combine specialist knowledge with community connections has earned her a reputation as a trusted connector in Cheshire.

As one local entrepreneur so eloquently put it recently “together, Jacqui and Debbie exemplify how networking and collaboration are the lifeblood of success in Cheshire’s Golden Triangle, helping local businesses and professionals thrive through relationships, referrals, and shared opportunities.’’

Come and say hello – you would be made very welcome!

NEW YEAR’S EVE 2026

THE YEAR WE PARTY LIKE WE FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT

If 2025 was the year everyone tried to “keep things chill,” 2026 is the year we collectively say, “Never mind, bring the glitter.” This New Year’s Eve is shaping up to be playful, immersive and just self-aware enough that even the most chaos-prone host can pull it off.

The big themes? Maximalist décor, tiny tasting portions, and drinks that look like they came straight out of a moodboard created at 2 a.m. People want experiences – little moments of delight – and this year’s party trends lean right into that. Think celestial sparkle, neo-Art Deco glam, and sensory side quests like edible glitter bars, scent pairings, or mini cocktail flights that turn every guest into a “mixologist” (or at least someone very enthusiastic about pouring things).

Alongside all that flash, 2026 is also the year of the lowABV revolution. Guests want to feel festive, not flattened. Expect botanical spritzes, low-proof aperitif cocktails, and zero-alcohol options that no longer taste like sadness in a glass. Sustainability is trending too, so garnishes are reusable, syrups come from leftover fruit, and nothing –not even a lemon peel – goes out without contributing something meaningful to the party.

Following are three drinks designed to match the leading NYE 2026 vibes. Each has a zero-proof counterpart so everyone gets something that feels special.

THE FRENCH ‘75

Festive, refined, light, refreshing

The French 75 is a wonderful choice for New Year’s celebrations, as it manages to feel both festive and refined without being heavy. Made with gin, fresh lemon, sugar and Champagne, it has a natural sense of occasion built into it. The sparkle of the Champagne suits the countdown perfectly, while the citrus keeps the drink bright and refreshing –ideal for a long evening of toasts and conversation.

Alcoholic Version

● 25 ml gin

● 15 ml fresh lemon juice

● 15 ml syrup

● 30-90 ml Champagne or Sparkling Wine

● Twist of lemon peel

Add 25 ml gin, 15 ml fresh lemon juice and 15 ml simple syrup to a shaker filled with ice. Shake briefly, then strain into a chilled Champagne flute or coupe.

Top with 60-90 ml of chilled Champagne or dry sparkling wine, and finish with a twist of lemon peel.

Zero-Proof

Replace gin with a non-alc version, and the sparkling wine with a sparkling soda beverage or tonic and a splash of citrus bitters.

ROSE & BITTER DAYCAP

Elegant mini-serves, botanical sweetness, aperitif vibes

Small cocktails are in — not because we’re delicate, but because we want to try six different things without needing to lie down. This rosy little aperitif is bright, bitter and romantic without being heavy.

Alcoholic Version

● 40 ml dry vermouth

● 15 ml aperitivo-style spirit

● 10 ml rose liqueur or 7 ml rose syrup

● Dash of orange bitters

● 60 ml soda water

Stir everything except the soda with ice.

Strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Top with soda. Garnish with a dehydrated orange slice and a single, smug rose petal.

Zero-Proof

Sub in a non-alcoholic vermouth alternative or a splash of tonic with aromatics to mimic complexity. Keep the rose syrup and soda.

NEO-DECO SMOKED SOUR

Glamorous throwback, theatrical smoke, sustainable garnish play

For the host who loves drama (the aesthetic kind, not the emotional kind), this cocktail delivers smoky glamour without needing a full speakeasy setup.

Alcoholic Version

● 45 ml bourbon or mezcal

● 25 ml lemon juice

● 20 ml simple or gomme syrup

● 1 egg white (optional but fancy)

Dry shake, then shake with ice. Double strain into a chilled coupe. Add smoke using a tiny bit of smoldering citrus peel or smoked tea under a cloche. Garnish with a charred peel.

Zero-Proof

Use 45 ml strong cold-brew smoked tea plus 15 ml non-alc spirit for depth. Prepare the same way — the foam still looks gorgeous.

FINAL PARTY ADVICE

Set up micro-bars so guests can mix their own mini versions, use one big theme or three small ones, and always keep a bowl of pre-cut citrus somewhere heroic. New Year’s Eve 2026 is all about sparkle, silliness and just enough sophistication to pretend we planned it that way.

Leader Spotlight On...

Victoria Hudson LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER

& ENTREPRENEUR

I’m Victoria, the founder of Valenti Recruitment, a people-focused business supporting warehouse, logistics, engineering, facilities and commercial roles, alongside commercial cleaning and workforce solutions for local, regional and national businesses. I’m a Knutsford local and live with my partner, Jason, a fitness coach, and our two boys, Oscar and George, which has shaped my belief in building businesses that genuinely support people and the communities around them.

Coming from a corporate background and years of client-side experience, I saw first-hand how impersonal recruitment and outsourced services can fall short. Valenti Recruitment was created to offer a more personal, relationship-led approach built on trust, clear communication and doing what’s right for both clients and candidates.

The business has grown entirely through referrals, reflecting the strong relationships built through consistency, transparency and care, and supporting businesses with reliable, high-quality recruitment and operational support.

I’m also involved in an exciting new project coming to Knutsford, centred around community, health and wellbeing, and creating something that brings people together in a positive and inclusive way. It’s a natural extension of my values and passion for supporting people beyond the workplace.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple aim: to build services that people trust and feel good about being part of, and I am looking forward to meeting fellow local business owners at future networking events in and around Knutsford.

Catherine Cooke is an ex-headteacher and now

Divorce and Co-Parenting Coach

who helps separated parents move from constant conflict and emotional overwhelm into calm, confident parenting, even when the other parent refuses to cooperate.

Her own divorce and co-parenting journey, plus her experience as a teacher, has shown Catherine that you only need one steady parent with the right tools, boundaries, and emotional regulation skills. That belief is at the heart of her Co-Parenting Roadmap, a step-by-step framework that helps parents shift out of survival mode and build a peaceful, predictable home environment, no matter how the other parent behaves.

Many parents believe a parenting plan will solve everything, but it doesn’t. If you’re dealing with someone reactive, inconsistent, or high-conflict, you already know that. A plan helps, but it doesn’t protect you from triggering messages, last-minute rota changes, or the emotional toll of moving between two homes.

The Co-Parenting Roadmap gives you something different: clarity, emotional steadiness, scripts for boundaries, a way to stop reacting, and the confidence to lead your home without fear or second-guessing yourself.

Catherine’s work centres on helping you regulate your nervous system, hold your power, reduce unnecessary communication, and create a calm structure your children can rely on. When you steady yourself, everything gets easier, decision-making, transitions, boundaries, and even how conflict lands in your body.

Here’s what one parent said after using the Roadmap: “Before working with you, every message from my ex sent me into a panic. I felt controlled, intimidated, and constantly on edge. Now, I feel calm, in control, and able to respond like the mum I actually want to be. My daughter is more settled, I’m more confident, and for the first time since the separation, I feel hopeful about our future.”

If you’re ready to stop living in reaction mode and build the kind of co-parenting life that supports both you and your children, the Co-Parenting Roadmap is here to guide you, step by steady step.
