Hold on to what you’ve got!
You will probably by now have at least glanced at one of the many recent articles speculating on the effects of the recent review of funding for care and support. This review presented two main points: 1 An individual’s lifetime contributions towards their care – which are currently unlimited – should be capped. After this cap is reached, individuals would be eligible for full state support. The report suggests a figure of £35,000; 2 The current means-tested threshold, above which individuals are liable for their full care costs, should be increased from £23,250 to £100,000. This review caused a media stir last summer, with many believing that this magical figure of £35,000 will simply be the total contribution any individual will have to pay. However, we would stress that these are simply proposals yet to receive any form of Government approval or timeframe for implementation. With the UK facing huge financial difficulties, and the ever-looming black cloud over Europe, it seems more probable than not that the care review will fail to be concluded with such a level of Government generosity. At Trustlaw, we have always worked on the premise that we work with what is certain. So, if you’re concerned about your future, your family and your care, call our Senior Partner, Stephen Gibbens to discuss how Trustlaw may be able to help you plan for a not so expensive future!
