President’s Report A Message from President Jim Evers
Brothers and Sisters, Looking back on 2023, we're filled with pride at what we've achieved together. It's been a year of wins and milestones that have made a real difference. And you know what? We're not slowing down any time soon! We won a major contract for our members, and have seen the benefits of the agreement already. With wage increases and full-time status for bus operators, we have seen a steady increase in hiring resulting in a larger and stronger membership. Check out our recap of the Unity Press Conference on page 4, and say "hello" to some of our newest members on page 5. From expertise on the job to talent on the golf course, we are proud to see our members showcase their skills. Find the winners of the 2023 Golf Tournament and recipients of the 2023 Agents of Safety Award on page 6. Big thanks to all of you—our amazing members. Your support and hard work are what keeps us going strong.

2023 Highlights Contract Victory & Press Conference The Unity Press Conference to announce the new contract agreement between Carmen’s Local 589 and the MBTA was featured in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, CBS News, NBC 10 Boston, WCVB, WBUR, Commonwealth, Boston.com, and more! We are proud to secure one of the best contracts in our long history. The strength and dedication of our union members resulted in several major adjustments, including an 18% wage increase over four years, additional paid parental leave and bereavement leave, longevity incentives for our skilled and loyal members, full-time status for bus drivers, and other great benefits.

Welcoming New Members The Carmen's Union Local 589 secured a new contract, including full-time status for bus operators and benefits for part-time employees. Since the contract was ratified, we've seen an increase in hiring, making our jobs safer and our union stronger.
We welcomed many new members in 2023. Our union solidarity continues to grow as we embark on the journey into the new year.
