Live-in Care
Live-in care offers personalised, round-the-clock support in the comfort of your home. It’s a great value alternative to residential care home. We match you with a skilled care assistant who lives with you, maintaining your routines, encouraging independence, and ensuring your safety. And our Caton-based team of experts provides additional support, quickly addressing unforeseen issues and liaising with other health and care professionals. This means your family members can focus on spending quality time with you. Other providers rarely offer this level of service. There’s no need to worry about a newcomer living in your home. Our experienced carers know just when to step in and when to step out. Sometimes, you’ll hardly know they’re there! All our carers are police-checked and trained to assist with a wide range of needs, from companionship to complex health care.
We cover all areas across

Claire Evans, Director of Bluebird Care Lancaster and South Lakeland Have you thought about live-in care? If you have enhanced care and support needs, live-in care at home is a great option to consider and much better value than you might expect. My mother-in-law, Shirley, is 91 and always valued her independence and autonomy. However, a recent accident landed her in hospital, with limitations to her mobility and a lot of pain. Shirley wanted to get home as soon as possible. Hospitals in winter are busy, understaffed places and not always conducive to recovery. But Shirley’s injuries meant she needed substantial support around the clock to get her strength back. Shirley wanted to be in the home she has lived in for more than 60 years, in her familiar surroundings, with familiar things, close to her friends and neighbours, and - most importantly with full autonomy over her routines.
Shirley accepted a live-in carer at home as an interim measure. Their job was to help keep Shirley safe when mobilising around the house, assist with rehab exercises, prepare nutritious meals to coax back appetite, and fulfil any other tasks Shirley needed help with since the accident. Their joint aim was to restore Shirley’s full independence, possibly getting her stronger than before the accident. Shirley said “I really didn’t want to have someone living with me but I also knew this was the price to pay to get home quickly. In the event, Audrey was fantastic, kind and friendly without being overbearing and often I hardly knew she was there. She knew just what to do and when. I’m independent again now, but if ever my circumstances change I won’t hesitate in having Audrey back.” If you’d like to know more about livein care, just call us on 01524 388829 and ask for a brochure. Are Your Windows Still Steamed Up? Now is the perfect time to make your home more attractive and energy efficient. For over 20 years, Cloudy2Clear has been the UK’s leading specialist in domestic glass replacement. As a trusted family-run business, we are your one-stop shop for all glazing needs. Why Choose Cloudy2Clear? • We generate our own leads and create tailored quotes • We manufacture our own highquality glass in-house • All work is carried out by our own skilled team – no subcontractors • Every glass unit comes with a 25 year guarantee • Dedicated after-sales care for complete peace of mind. Don’t replace the entire window Full frame replacements are expensive and create unnecessary mess and redecoration. We simply replace the failed glass unit – saving you money and minimising disruption.
Common Window Problems Double glazing seals often fail due to hot days and cool nights causing the glass to expand and contract. This allows air and moisture in, leading to condensation and foggy windows. Join Over 346,000 Satisfied Customers • Affordable and ethical service • Significant cost savings compared to full window replacement • Faster installation with less upheaval • Improved energy efficiency and a cooler home.
Ask me about our fantastic Energy Saving Glass.
Manager Stan Stannard says: “Our focus is on replacing just the glass, not the entire window. This reduces costs and disruption. As a true one-stop shop, we handle everything from quoting to manufacturing premium glass with a 25-year guarantee.” Ready to upgrade your windows? For a free quote, call 0800 61 21 118 or visit www.cloudy2clear.co.uk today!

elite conservatory roofs
Updating your conservatory to a room you can use all year round makes perfect sense. We don’t think twice about updating our kitchens and bathrooms to improve their functionality and appearance. So why restrict your conservatory’s use to only certain times of the year, when it’s not too cold or too hot?
We can upgrade your conservatory by tiling the outside with lightweight tiles, installing breathable wadding insulation to the inside and finishing with white cladding or plastering. Most roofs are completed in just 2 to 3 days. Our professional, courteous roofing installers ensure high-quality workmanship, and we guarantee both our installation and products.
OLD POLYCARBONATE ROOFS WILL LET UP TO 70% OF HEAT INSIDE IN SUMMER AN INSULATED TILED ROOF WILL REDUCE THIS TO 20% HEAT GAIN AND REDUCE HEAT LOSS IN WINTER
Breathable wadding inside insulation so no condensation WE USE OUR OWN COMPANY ROOFERS. NO SUBCONTRACTORS SO WE CAN GIVE YOU A FULL GUARANTEE.

BEFORE

Replacing your failed double glazing Replacing faulty locks, handles and hinges Adjustments and servicing
Failed windows not only look terrible, but they allow cold air and moisture in to your home and that means you are going to pay more than you should, to heat your house each and every month. Let Back to Brilliant Windows fix your foggy windows, and you can start saving money on those heating bills. Don’t forget all our windows are backed by a tenyear manufacturer’s guarantee, not just a flimsy certificate which isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Our fully trained window experts can repair your windows quickly and economically, bringing them back to show house quality. BEFORE
AFTER
Don’t just accept foggy windows, after all no one wants windows that allow moisture, cold and mould into your home. Let Back to Brilliant windows explain how you can save money, compared to the cost of replacing complete windows. Call Anthony O’Brien at Back to Brilliant windows and start saving money now. Modern windows are designed to act as an insulation barrier in a room, if they fail you might as well open the windows and throw money out onto the road.
With winter weather on the way, keeping our homes as warm and energy-efficient as possible is more important than ever: Failed double glazing Faulty hinges Broken locks ... Can all reduce energy efficiency and cause unnecessary heat loss

Clare House Park Road, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria LA11 7HQ

Another lovely Evening at Clare House Clare House was calling us again – it’s been a while. Although we’ve been so often (our first review was in 2014!) that Miss Daisy’s car can still find its own way - and probably faster than when Miss D’s at the wheel! You just follow your nose through Grange along the grand sounding (and rather pretty) Esplanade and onto Park Road where Clare House is on your left, with gorgeous gardens and stunning views over Morecambe Bay. They have their own car park which thankfully made it easy for Miss D to park. This family run Hotel has a gorgeously appointed dining room which is open to non residents (do call in advance though to be sure of availability). They are open Tuesday to Sunday for brunch & lunch, and Tuesday to Saturday for afternoon tea and Dinner. We began the evening with pre-dinner drinks in one of Clare House’s two lovely lounges, overlooking the tranquil gardens magnificent sweep of Morecambe Bay. I enjoyed a glass of Pinot Grigio (surprise surprise) while Miss Daisy sensibly stuck to lime and soda.
92 | LOCAL CHOICE OCTOBER 2026
We were looked after by two young members of the team, Blake and Amelia, who were both friendly, and attentive (and made us feel somewhat old!!)
but eventually decided to be slightly sensible and chose the English Lakes ice cream selection instead. (although now, having described it, I should have had the rice pudding).
The meal began with a Garden Greens amuse-bouche and freshly baked bread with perfectly soft butter. Miss Daisy then chose the watercress, celery and sweet pear salad with Parmesan shavings, which was fresh, beautifully presented and, according to Miss Daisy, delicious.
After dinner, we wandered outside to one of the many seating areas to enjoy the gorgeous gardens. Christian brought us coffee and petit fours and took the time to have a chat with us. A nice personal touch and a very pleasant way to finish the evening. We then wandered down the garden to admire a fabulous apple tree which was absolutely laden with the most glorious red apples. Snow White would have been sorely tempted!
She followed this with roasted duck breast, Dauphinoise potatoes, vegetables and parsnip cream — a lovely combination. I started with a prawn cocktail with avocado and cucumber pickle, which was a lovely modern take on the classic. For my main I chose loin of Gloucester Old Spot pork with apple sauce and crackling, rösti potato, creamy butter beans and some amazing hispi cabbage. The pork was excellent, but the cabbage deserves a special mention — I could happily have eaten a plateful of it on its own (although I’d probably have paid the price later…) We sensibly paused for a while afterwards — although in my case this pause did involve another glass of wine! Then came the difficult question: dessert.
Then it was time to depart. So off we pootled (thanks Miss D), full but pleasantly so, towards the sunset across Morecambe bay. We’d had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Excellent food, beautiful surroundings, attentive service and that relaxed, personal atmosphere you hope to find in a family-run hotel. Blake and Amelia were lovely and Christian made us feel very welcome.
Review by Louise Hodgson
Miss Daisy chose baked ginger parkin with plum compote, spiced syrup, custard and Jersey ice cream. I was sorely tempted by the traditional rice pudding with apple compote and butterscotch sauce, For great features, competitions and money saving vouchers visit www.local-choice.co.uk
