was around from the Victorian times and was a result of the use of di erent and new and cheaper materials being invented like Bakelite, gold plating techniques, and the use of natural materials like amber and jet that could be foraged from coastal shores, however costume jewellery became popular in the 1920’s with the beginning of the Jazz era where ladies wanted to compliment their brightly coloured dresses with in-expensive jewellery this trend has continued to present day. What you need to look out for are items that are from speci c periods like Art Deco which would be brightly coloured and possibly angular and usually made of plastic, look for items
that are naturalistic in form and designs like leaves, animals and insects, items that represent a purpose for a place like kilt pins from Scotland and don’t forget all because there are no gold marks it doesn’t mean it’s not gold.
