Unique Experiences in Lancaster County By Krista Lockwood and Sally Reynolds Looking for something different to do in Lancaster County? Beyond the traditional attractions, Lancaster County is filled with many unique experiences, from seeing the county from a bird’seye view to a massive corn maze. Whether you’re visiting Lancaster for the first time or rediscovering your own backyard, these experiences offer an exciting new way to explore Lancaster.
Sickman’s Mill
671 Sand Hill Rd, Pequea sickmansmill.com
On hot summer days, few Lancaster experiences feel as satisfying as floating down the Pequea Creek at Sickman’s Mill. While tubing can be done throughout Lancaster County, Sickman’s Mill makes the experience especially easy and care-free. Their tubing passes cover a rental tube, a float down the creek, and a shuttle ride back to Jimmy’s Place, the Mill’s riverside hangout and home of the popular Jimmy Juice. After an afternoon on the river, Jimmy’s Place is the perfect spot to unwind. Grab a pizza, sandwich, or appetizer alongside a beer or cocktail, and join a game of cornhole or simply lounge by the creek. The laid-back atmosphere makes it easy to soak up a summer afternoon. Sickman’s Mill occasionally hosts live music and bingo throughout the season. Visitors can also reserve a 4-hour guided tubing tour on weekends, with stops at swimming holes and opportunities to see wildlife, such as herons and hawks. They also offer an all-day tubing pass, only available during the week, and a season pass. Sickman’s Mill is open 7 days a week from 10 am – 10 pm, from Memorial Day to Halloween. The last tube of the day goes in by 5 pm, except for Wednesday’s extended hours until 7 pm. Dogs are welcome under strict owner supervision. Sickman’s Mill is cash only for all on-site purchases.

Red Rose Flight Tour Experience Lancaster County from an entirely different perspective, over a thousand feet in the air. Red Rose Flight Tours offers 20-40 minute scenic flights departing from Lancaster Airport, giving passengers a bird’s-eye view of the county’s rolling farmland, lush woodlands, winding waterways, and popular city landmarks.
Lancaster Vice Historical Walking Tours See downtown Lancaster in a whole new light after learning about the city’s past, one filled with brothels, gambling, and crime. Alison Kibler, a Franklin & Marshall College professor, uses her research into Lancaster’s past to bring local history to life through 90-minute guided walking tours. She reveals what the city was really like from the early 1900s through the 1930s. Known as a “Wide Open City,” Lancaster had a reputation for relaxed enforcement surrounding certain illegal activities. Through vivid storytelling, Kilber shares true stories that depict daily life and show how the city

Pilot Brendan Johnson takes passengers up in a newly renovated Cessna 172 Superhawk, which seats just 3 passengers, creating a very personal and memorable experience. With more than 5 years of flying experience, from hot air balloons to light jets and more, Johnson brings a broad range of aviation knowledge to every flight (just go ahead and ask him questions!) Whether you’re organizing a fun flight for your family or a romantic sunset date, this is a unique way to experience Lancaster together. There is no age requirement to be a passenger, and kids’ headsets are available. A bottle of champagne and a keepsake photo are included in sunset flights. Though the tours range from 20-40 minutes, it’s recommended to plan 1.5 hours to enjoy the entire experience. Safety is Red Rose Flight Tour’s priority. In the event of bad weather, flights can be rescheduled or refunded at no additional cost.

navigated prohibition, prostitution, and other illegal activities. Visitors can choose from The Backstreet Brothel Tour and The Brew-Haha Tour, which conveys the history of Prohibition in Lancaster. Experience Lancaster in a whole different era. Stand in the exact location where history unfolded and hear stories while admiring the building where it occurred, some of which are now home to restaurants, shops, and breweries. Comfortable shoes are recommended, as the tour covers about 1 mile of walking. Recommended for adults, age 18 and over.

Cherry Crest Adventure Farm 150 Cherry Hill Rd, Ronks cherrycrestfarm.com
For a family-friendly rural outing that is distinctly Lancaster County, head to Cherry Crest Adventure Farm in Ronks. Cherry Crest is a working farm with beef cattle, broilers, and crops, but its signature attraction is the annual Maize Maze, first created in 1996. Each year, an intricate maze design is cut into a five-acre field of young corn. The paths in the maze are about two and a half miles long and take visitors about an hour to complete. Along the maze route, visitors will encounter bridges, slides, candy dispensers, and stations where puzzle pieces can be collected to complete a personal map of the maze. Outside the maze are fields with a seemingly endless array of fun and games for every age, including a giant slingshot, trampolines, slides, small hay bale mazes, a giant bubble making station, cart rides, tractor tours, and baby farm animals. Kids can roam freely as they enjoy the thrill of discovery out in the fresh air and sunshine. If you go on a Friday or Saturday, you might get a chance to see a live band perform country music. You’ll head home tired, maybe a little sunburned, and full of happy memories.

Visitors can also book a custom private scooter tour for a more personalized experience. Margarita flights Tequila Mexican Grill & Bar Tequila’s has two locations, one on Richmond Dr. and one on Rohrerstown Rd. This is the only place where you can choose your four margarita flavors for your flight, and you can select either a 10 oz. flight or a 21 oz. flight that is meant to share. Their flavors are classic lime, strawberry, mango, watermelon, passion fruit, guava, apple and coconut. My favorites were coconut, passion fruit, mango and watermelon, and they were all as zippy and fruity as they sound. TEQUILAMEXICANGRILLPA.COM
Funck’s Restaurant Funck’s in Leola is known for their 100-tap beer wall but I like their margarita flights. They offer three consistent flavors: classic, strawberry, and mango. The fourth flavor changes throughout the year; recent options have included pomegranate, passion fruit and pineapple, all tasty with a nice balance of sweet and tart. Funck’s has a large outdoor patio space for you to relax and enjoy your selections. FUNCKS.COM

Mimosa Flights Lyndon Diner Yep, that’s right, mimosas at the diner. Lyndon is a very popular meetup spot for breakfast since it’s conveniently located right off Route 30. I went here for breakfast and was very surprised to find they offered mimosa flights. They offer four flavors, orange, pineapple, grapefruit and, my favorite, cranberry. This may be the best way to start a weekend morning: a hearty breakfast and a colorful array of refreshing mimosas. LYNDONDINER.NET

Mimosa, Crush and MargaritaFlights Margarita Flights
Located just outside Lancaster County but worth mentioning because of their excellent presentation. In my opinion they get extra points for being the most creative. The flavors they offer are: Carnival Nights (a sugary mimosa that comes with cotton candy on the rim), Watermelon Sugar Hi (very much tasted like a watermelon jolly rancher with a sugar rim), Let’s Get Zesty (a classic orange mimosa with a cream top) and my favorite: Don’t be a Beach (coconut and pineapple mimosa complete with a little paper parasol). HERSHEYPANTRY.COM

Th Thee menu only lists the mimosa fl flights ights so be sure to ask your waiter or bartender what the other fl flight ight options are. We tried the crush flight and the margarita flight. Food Trucks
Do you love the food truck scene? Lancaster County sure does. There are over 125 food trucks in Lancaster that operate at farm shows, fairs, street festivals, concerts and events. Lancaster’s food trucks offer a wide array of options, from BBQ to funnel cakes to tacos. To assist you in your hunt for mobile treats, check out bit.ly/food-truck-lanc or scan the QR code below to see dates and locations of food trucks across the county. To get you started, here are a few of my favorite local food trucks:
J. R.’s Brisket J.R.’s smokes their own brisket and pork and piles the meat generously onto sandwiches and platters. I love the Southern Stack sandwich: brisket, BBQ sauce, fried onions and coleslaw on a bun. The contrast between the soft smoky meat and the crispy cool coleslaw is what makes this sandwich a winner.
Lapp’s Food Trailer This food truck got a special mention by Philadelphia Inquirer food writer Craig LaBan, who loves their soft pretzels and shoofly pies. According to LaBan, “The pretzel was truly amazing, its warm twisted braid as soft as a stretchy cloud and faintly sweet against the crunch of coarse salt glistening in melted Amish butter.” Yes Craig, you nailed it.
Rendezvous Pizza Trailer This is a wood-fired pizza trailer that rolls up to public and private events. Chef Riley uses Italian ALFA ovens on his trailer and at his brick-and-mortar pizza shop in downtown Lancaster. These are thin-crusted, lightly charred pizzas with classic toppings like pepperoni and margherita, as well as seasonal toppings like spinachricotta, or mushroom-black garlic.
Cabalar Love smash burgers and chicken sandwiches? Cabalar is where you need to eat. Cabalar has their own butchery in-house and they collaborate with local farmers and suppliers. The smash burgers are meaty and juicy, and the fried chicken sandwiches have crunch and spice. Don’t forget to add fries and a milkshake for a satisfying meal.
Penny’s Ice Cream A cute pink truck serving small batch ice cream made locally. My favorite flavors are salted caramel and Olivia’s coffee, but there are plenty to choose, like peanut butter Oreo and cookies and cream. A great choice for a warm summer day.

Favorite Things to do in Quarryville
BY KAYLA CORBIN Down in the southern end of Lancaster County is a small town named after local quarries: Quarryville. At a glance, you may think there is not much to do in this small borough. But there are plenty of reasons to head down and check it out, especially if you are looking for a more rural and less touristy version of the farmlands of Lancaster County.
Buck Motorsports Park 900 Lancaster Pike | Buckmotorsports.com
This motorsports park is a one-of-a-kind experience on Saturday nights May through October. Take your pick from demolition derbies, mud bogs, monster trucks and so much more. You can buy your tickets online in advance and grab a bite to eat at their concession stands. It’s a truly unique experience in “the southern end” of Lancaster County; not to be missed if you love trucks and country music.

The Enola Low Grade Trail 311 E. State St
There are many entryways to this former railroad track turned recreational trail, but the State Street entrance in Quarryville is right past the local fire department and gets a lot of foot (and bike) traffic. Nearby is a historic skewed arch bridge, and if you travel either way you can appreciate the nature that the Lancaster countryside offers. At this entrance there is also a 4-mile mountain biking trail fit for beginner to immediate levels.
Tanglewood Manor Golf Club 653 Scotland Rd | Twgolf.com
Tanglewood is a well-manicured public golf course open to everyone. They have 18 championship holes, an onsite store, and a driving range just down the road. Take in the scenic views at this gorgeous course while wearing your golfing best: there is a dress code to follow! Check out their website to book a tee time.
Jellystone Park™ Quarryville 40 Blackburn Rd | Jellystonepa.com
Are you a camper family? Check out Jellystone Park to create your next vacation memories. They have tent and camper sites, as well as glamping-worthy cabins to rent. Rent a golf cart to get around this large fun zone where there are endless activities for you and your family. Whether it be mini golf, laser tag, or their gigantic jumping pillow, there is something for everyone. In the warmer months, check out their pool area that is equipped with slides, water cannons, lounge chairs and more. You can visit for the day if you are interested in experiencing their water zone without the full camping experience. SUMMER/FALL 2026

Britain Hill Venue & Vineyard 790 Little Britain Rd | Britainhillvenueandvineyard.com
This local vineyard is one of my favorite places to visit. Britain Hill is a women-run small business winery that has a wide selection of red, white, blush and fruit wines, all available for you to try in their tasting room. My personal favorite is Happy Frog which is a sweet blush wine perfect for sipping chilled on a warm summer day. They often host events on the weekends and sometimes have food trucks. Enjoy a relaxing evening with the scenic views while hanging out with your friends and family over a bottle of wine.
The Daily Grind 1 N Church St | Thegrindquarryville.com
The Daily Grind is a quintessential coffee café. They have recently moved into a renovated old bank building that gives it a wonderful charm. They offer a wide variety of drinks, as well as food options to satisfy a savory or sweet tooth. I love to go at breakfast time and enjoy a sandwich or an omelet with an iced latte.
