MAKE WAVES & BE SAFE THIS SUMMER

When the weather starts to heat up, the pools, lakes, oceans, rivers, and other bodies of water start calling! While swimming can be an enjoyable summer activity, it is important to remind all parents and caregivers of the importance of water safety. Here’s five tips on how children can stay safe in and around the water: Ensure

Supervise your children any time they’re in or near water. (Phones Down, Eyes Up!)

Don’t engage in breath holding activities.

Never swim alone without a water watcher.

Wear a life jacket if you are an inexperienced or non-swimmer.

Swimming at the Y helps people thrive – in and out of the water. Swim Lessons provide the opportunity to set goals and achieve success, learn water safety and enjoy swimming as a form of exercise. We offer sessions all summer long for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

GOOD NEWS

HELLO SUMMER!

Summer might be our favorite season at the Y! We’ve enjoyed kicking off summer camps, opening our outdoor pools, and more! This week, summer day campers (pictured) enjoyed an inflatable bounce house as part of a “Spirit Week” theme. Campers have also had the opportunity to make animal track molds through a partnership with 4-H/UNL Extension. We’re looking forward to more fun this summer across all our programs!

WRIGHT PARK WALKING TRAIL

Last month, we shared our vision for a two-mile walking trail circling the entirety of Wright Park during a kickoff event held at the park. With the support of initial funding from NextEra Energy Resources, we have a strong start on this project and are excited to keep the momentum going to bring it to fruition!

GIVE TO LINCOLN DAY

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the YMCA raised $61,915 during Give to Lincoln Day last week. Members of our leadership team (pictured) visited with fellow nonprofit organizations at Tower Square during the Give to Lincoln Day celebrations. We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up, give back, and support organizations making a difference across Lincoln.
