RECREATION CENTER RESERVATIONS

Reservations are online at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: reservation). Payment must be paid online or sent to the office for completion of reservation. Requests for refunds are subject to a $25 service charge and must be made at least seven working days prior to the reservation date.

Our centers facilities are available to rent for your reunion, birthday party, meeting, or event. Some rentals include use of game room with foosball, pool, bumper pool, table tennis, and shuffleboard! Call any center for more information or to book your event.

Note: Rain, cold, heat, or bugs are not an automatic cause for a refund. Each request/issue will be considered separately after a refund form has been completed.

The auditorium is great for birthday parties, group meetings, and company retreats.

Indoor Facilities: Indoor/enclosed facilities available for rent include: Antelope, Auld Pavilion, Bethany, Jane Snyder Trails Center, Van Dorn.

Outdoor Facilities: Outdoor picnic shelters and master table locations are also available for rent.

Wedding Locations: Numerous park settings are available to reserve for your ceremony: Antelope Park Bandshell, Auld Pavilion, Hazel Abel Park, Stransky Park, Sunken Gardens, Iron Horse Park, Oak Lake Island, Bowling Lake, Veterans Memorial Garden, Government Park Square, Holmes Lake, Hamann Rose Garden at Antelope Park, and the Union Plaza Amphitheater.

Special Use: Planning a concert or community event? Rent spaces like

Centennial Mall, Tower Square, Union Plaza Amphitheater, or the Antelope Park Bandshell. Additional paperwork is required for special use events, please contact the reservations desk for more information.

Dual Language Preschool

At Irving Recreation Center, our thematic content supports language development in both English and Spanish and allows preschoolers of all language backgrounds to have fun while playing and learning kindergarten readiness skills. Enrollment is open throughout the year as long as spots remain available. Children must be toilet trained and 3-5 years old on Sept. 4th, 2019. Nature Center Preschool Program

The Pioneers Park Nature Center offers naturebased Preschool and PreK programs for ages 3-5. Through nature exploration and themed activities children learn colors, counting, shapes, spatial awareness, and more. Classes begin the first week of September. Registration for fall 2020 begins February 1.

Irving Middle School Drop-in*

During after school hours at Irving Recreation Center, middle school students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of ageappropriate, fun, and enriching activities. We encourage all students to be engaged and take advantage of the activity choices available. The Center is open exclusively to Irving students upon school dismissal until 5:00 p.m. Students are welcome to stay after 5:00 when the rec. center opens to the public. All Students must submit an After School Member Form to participate. Come join the fastest growing sport in Lincoln! Teams will play a 6 game regular season and a double elimination season ending tournament. Season begins January 5, 2019. Games are played on Sundays at Calvert and Air Park Recreation Centers.

Basketball: $15/half court, $30/full court per 55 minutes.

Volleyball: $30/full court per 55 minutes.

Instructional one-day camp on Saturday, October 19 from 9 AM-3:30 PM, designed for all players ranging from beginners to intermediate players. Space is limited!

It includes group instruction as well as individual attention each class to help put you in a position for better golf. For the golfer with some experience, Lincoln City Golf offers Golf 201 which also addresses all areas of the game but provides each golfer with more in-depth information to hit it straighter, further, and score better.

After a hiatus of more than 50 years, I decided to take up golf again. We learned all the basics from putting and chipping right through irons and drivers. The instructor’s approach is great for a group and we all got individualized instruction as well. Nature Programs Composting Workshop

Learn how to be successful with composting by attending a free composting demonstration workshop sponsored by Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County and the City of Lincoln Recycling Office. Demonstrations are presented by Extension Master Gardeners and include three types of composting bins and how to use them. This workshop takes place at the composting demonstration area just across the road from the Prairie Building.

Girl Scouts – Eco-Learner

Get outside and learn about how you can help protect nature at Pioneers Park Nature Center. Daisy Girl Scouts can earn their Eco Learner badge by working together to prepare for a group hike and exploring the outdoors. While out on the trails we’ll spend some time exploring what animals and plants live in the wetlands, woodlands, and prairies at the Nature Center. We’ll talk about what belongs in the wild and what does not and how we can leave the area better than we found it. Fees include materials for all activities, snack, and Eco Learner Badge. No School! Let’s have fun at camp. This day camp for students (K-5th grade) will include a hayrack ride, outdoor exploring, a camp fire, hiking, marshmallow roasting, and much more. Fall Harvest: Seed Collection

Volunteer to help Pioneers Park Nature Center collect seed for prairie restoration. Each year seeds are collected from the grasses and forbs in the prairie. These seeds are distributed in areas with less diversity to enhance the prairie ecosystem. No prior experience necessary. Dress for the weather and wear suitable shoes for walking off trail in the prairie, and bring your own work gloves if you have them. Register as a volunteer by Wednesday, October 16.

Check-in: 8:30 AM at the School House Help support the Nature Center and the work we do to preserve the tallgrass prairie. This walk/ run will take you along mowed trails through the prairie, up and over rolling hills, along groundwater fed ponds, and through the tallgrass prairie. The 1 mile option is a moderate route on mowed trails with some hills. The 5K option is a challenging hilly course along uneven terrain. All participants will be entered into a prize drawing and receive a participation gift. This event is not officially timed.

The Prairie Corridor on Haines Branch is a tallgrass prairie passage and trail that will connect the Pioneers Park Nature Center, along the Haines Branch Creek, through the Village of Denton, and on to Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center.

Nebraska’s Eastern Saline Wetlands Visit one of Nebraska’s most fragile habitats.

Two areas owned by the City of Lincoln, Frank Shoemaker Marsh and Arbor Lake, are located along Little Salt Creek north of Interstate 80 along 27th Street.

The conservation areas offer opportunities to explore saline wetlands, freshwater wetlands, native prairie, and other associated upland habitat. Enjoy the outdoors during the fall and winter.

ROCK STEADY BOXING Rock Steady Boxing is an exercise program based on training used by professional boxers and adapted for people with Parkinson's disease. Rock Steady Boxing is taught by experienced trainers and includes stretching, bicycling, running, jumping rope, push-ups, balancing and non-contact boxing. These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson's, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life.

Only those with Parkinson's disease may register for the program, and all participants must provide a physician's release. There are no age or condition restrictions and caregivers may need to be present to provide assistance during the class. *An assessment is required to determine your level of participation before beginning Rock Steady Boxing. $45/assessment (includes assessment, t-shirt, gloves, & wraps)

Lincoln's Community Forestry FUNDAMENTAL TO VIBRANT NEIGHBORHOODS One of the hallmarks of Lincoln’s quality of life is its community forest, which is a prominent feature of its landscape. A canopy of thousands of trees is showcased in many shades of green in the summer and vivid reds, oranges and yellows of autumn. Our Forestry staff maintains nearly 120,000 public trees throughout the city of Lincoln with over 14,600 being a species of ash trees. ADOPT-AN-ASH PROGRAM

A no-cost permit has been established to allow residents to adopt an ash street tree in the public right-of-way by providing ongoing chemical treatment to minimize damage by Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). This program assists the department and property owner to document which ash trees are reserved for treatment and will not be removed.

When does the treatment begin?

In order to be effective, trees must be treated every two years on an ongoing basis.

The optimal timing of trunk injections occurs after trees have leafed out in the spring but before EAB eggs have hatched, which is generally between mid-May and mid-June.

How do I sign up?

This permit application is for those who would like to “adopt” an ash tree in the public right-of-way by providing ongoing chemical treatment to minimize damage by Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).

STREET TREE VOUCHER PROGRAM The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department offers a cost-share assistance program to property owners in Lincoln who desire to purchase and plant a street tree(s) on the City right-of-way adjacent to their property.

The $100 voucher is good toward the purchase and installation of a tree at participating local nurseries. The remaining balance of the cost of the tree and the planting of the tree will be at the homeowner’s expense.
