I hope these pages give you ideas you can use in your treatment room this week. Ask clients what they have coming up, revisit the goals you set together, and explain why you’re recommending the next step. That kind of attention is what helps a client feel cared for long after their facial ends.

Are Seasonal Specials Actually Profitable? How to compare discounts, treatment series, and value-added upgrades before launching a fall promotion by Samantha Garcia

6

October2026

LNEonline.com

A seasonal special can fill an appointment slot, introduce a new treatment, and give clients a reason to reconnect. It can also quietly reduce what you earn from a service you were already booking at full price. Before you put a fall facial on your menu, decide what the offer is meant to accomplish. Are you trying to bring inactive clients back, introduce peels to existing facial clients, sell a series, or fill a slow weekday? The answer determines whether the special makes financial sense. Start with the numbers behind the appointment. For every proposed offer, record its selling price, treatment time, consumables, payment fees, provider compensation, and any products or gifts included. Then consider the value of the room and provider time: could that same slot have been sold as a regular service? A full calendar can still produce disappointing revenue when too many prime appointments are sold below their normal contribution.

LNEonline.com

October2026

7

Are Seasonal Specials Actually Profitable?

Consider a simplified example. Your standard facial is $200. Consumables, processing, and provider compensation total $65, leaving $135 before rent, utilities, marketing, and other overhead. A 20 percent seasonal discount brings the price to $160, but those $65 in costs do not disappear. The remaining contribution falls to $95. That is $40 less per appointment, or $400 across ten appointments. These are example figures; substitute your own costs before making a decision.

When a limited-time discount works

A discount can serve a clear purpose when it reaches people who would not otherwise have booked that slot. Think about a weekday opening, a first visit with a defined follow-up opportunity, or a short campaign for clients who have not visited in months. Set a start and end date, limit the number of appointments if capacity is tight, and decide how you will measure success. New bookings alone are not the whole story. Watch how many guests rebook at the regular price and whether the campaign displaces full-price clients. Be careful with broad discounts on your busiest days. If a client would have booked their usual October facial anyway, the promotion changes your revenue without changing their behavior. It can also train clients to wait for the next seasonal offer. When you do discount, make the reason specific and the offer easy to understand. A promotion with multiple exclusions and complicated add-ons can create more friction than bookings.

When a series makes sense

A series works best when the treatment goal genuinely benefits from several visits and the client is a suitable candidate for the planned services. A fall peel plan, for example, may involve consultation, preparation, treatment visits, and home care guidance. Price the entire plan based on the work in-

8

October2026

volved, including any follow-up communication or assessment time. A package price should be intentional; calling it a series does not automatically make a steep discount profitable. Series can help with scheduling and cash flow, but a prepaid payment is not the same as earned profit. You still owe the client the future appointments. Reserve the time and product costs needed to deliver them, establish clear expiration and cancellation terms consistent with local rules, and track

how many visits remain. Avoid promising a specific outcome by a specific date. Skin response, adherence, and treatment tolerance vary.

The case for a value-added upgrade

Sometimes the strongest seasonal offer keeps the core price intact and adds something clients can actually feel or use. That might be extra consultation time, a targeted mask, a brief LED session where appropriate, or a small home-care product. Choose an addition that fits your protocol and

Are Seasonal Specials Actually Profitable?

The most profitable special is one you can deliver well, explain clearly, and recommend with confidence. price it honestly. “Complimentary” does not mean free to the business: five extra minutes across a full day and a product with real cost both affect your margin. Using the earlier example, a $200 facial with an upgrade costing $12 in product and time leaves $123 before overhead, compared with $95 for the discounted facial. The value-added version may

10

October2026

LNEonline.com

be more profitable while giving the client a distinct seasonal experience. It only works if the added step matters to the client, is suitable for their skin, and does not turn a 60-minute booking into an 80-minute appointment.

Decide what success looks like

Before launching, write down one objective and three measures. If the goal

is to fill quiet Tuesday afternoons, track appointments in those slots, contribution per appointment, and repeat bookings. If the goal is to introduce corrective treatments, track consultations, appropriate series enrollments, and return visits. Compare the results with a normal month, keeping holidays and schedule changes in mind. A seasonal menu should reflect your expertise rather than force every client into the same fall protocol. A guest with a stressed barrier may need a supportive facial instead of a peel; an established peel client may be ready for a carefully planned series. The most profitable special is one you can deliver well, explain clearly, and recommend with confidence. When the promotion ends, you should have stronger client relationships and a clearer picture of what each appointment actually earns.

Make Memberships Feel Relevant

in Fall

How to adapt a monthly facial to seasonal skin needs while protecting the value of membership A client who joins a facial membership is choosing consistency. Yet a recurring appointment can start to feel routine if every month sounds and looks exactly the same. Fall gives estheticians a natural opportunity to revisit skin goals, adjust home care, and show members what their commitment is doing for them. The answer is not necessarily a new seasonal special. It is a better conversation inside the service they already value.

The New Era of Skin Analysis

Begin each appointment with a short check-in. Ask what has changed since the last visit: How does the skin feel after cleansing? Has the client noticed new dryness, congestion, sensitivity, or pigmentation concerns? Are they traveling, spending more time outdoors, or preparing for an event? Review the products they are actually using and note any recent treatments. Weather alone does not tell you what a client's skin needs; their current condition and habits do. That assessment lets you explain the month's plan in plain language. You might say, “Last month we focused on congestion. Today your skin looks more reactive, so I want to keep the extractions selective and spend more time on hydration and barrier support.” The member hears that their appointment is being tailored, even if the service name and monthly price stay the same.

Give each season a purpose

Your fall membership messaging can introduce themes without prescribing the same treatment for everyone. October might invite a post-summer skin review. November might focus on event preparation and scheduling. December might emphasize maintaining a comfortable routine through travel and a busier calendar. These themes provide content for emails and stories, but the actual treatment should follow the consultation. Consider what your membership already includes and where personalization fits within it. A 60-minute facial might allow you to change the mask, adjust massage time, or choose a different exfoliation method within the established protocol. An advanced peel, extended appointment, or costly specialty product may sit outside the membership and require a clear-

prospective members understand that consistency does not mean identical facials. ly priced upgrade. Spell out those boundaries before promoting seasonal variations so clients know what is included. For a member interested in pigmentation, your October visit could include a progress review, a discussion of sun protection, and a treatment selected for their current skin and history. A member prone to congestion might benefit from consistent, appropriately timed extractions and a look at their home routine. Another may want a soothing facial and no exfoliation at all. Showing these distinct paths helps

Show progress without promising perfection

Memberships become more compelling when clients can recognize changes over time. Take photos with permission under consistent lighting, document the client's main concerns, and revisit goals periodically. Progress may mean fewer episodes of discomfort, more confidence in a simple routine, or improved appointment consistency. Not every useful change will be obvious in a before-and-after image, and skin rarely improves in a perfectly straight line.

The New Era of Skin Analysis

A brief end-of-appointment recap can reinforce the value of the visit: what you noticed, what you adjusted, what the client should do at home, and what you will reassess next month. Keep recommendations focused. Selling an entirely new shelf of products because the calendar says October can undermine trust, especially if the client's current routine is working. Suggest a change when you can explain the need and how the new product fits.

Keep the membership financially sound

Seasonal relevance should not turn into a quiet expansion of benefits. Before adding LED, a specialty mask, or more treatment time for every member, calculate the cost across your full mem16

A good membership makes the client feel known from one visit to the next. bership base. A $10 product addition for 50 members is $500 before accounting for staff time. You may decide the added value supports retention, but it should be a deliberate choice. Instead, build personalization into the membership price and reserve optional upgrades for services with meaningful additional costs. You can also offer priority access to event-prep appointments, an advance booking window, or a seasonal consultation as part of an existing appointment if your schedule supports it. Check that any promised benefit is available to every eligible member and easy for staff to explain. Finally, look beyond sign-ups. Monitor attendance, cancellations, upgrade

purchases, retention, and the feedback members give you at check-in. If people are skipping visits because the service feels repetitive, change how you assess and communicate the treatment before adding more discounts. If members love the care but struggle to book, examine appointment availability. A good membership makes the client feel known from one visit to the next. Fall is an opportunity to demonstrate that continuity: the treatment responds to the skin in front of you, while the ongoing relationship gives you time to observe, adapt, and plan ahead.

The Holiday Booking Conversation Starts Now How to help clients plan facials and treatment series before event season fills the calendar by Alejandra Salinas

By the time a client calls a week before a holiday party, their options may be limited. A familiar, gentle facial could be appropriate; a first-time peel or a new active home-care product may create an avoidable surprise. October is the time to begin the holiday booking conversation, when there is still room to assess the skin, discuss the client's goals, and schedule treatments around the dates that matter to them. The conversation does not need to sound like a sales pitch. At the end of a fall appointment, ask, “Do you have any events or

travel coming up in November or December that you want to plan your skin around?” That one question turns an abstract push to “book ahead” into a useful consultation. A family photo, wedding, reunion, or vacation may call for different priorities, budgets, and schedules. Start with the event date and work backward. Ask whether the client wants to address an ongoing concern, maintain their current progress, or simply feel refreshed for the occasion. Review their treatment

The Holiday Booking Conversation Starts Now

history, home care, tolerance for downtime, and availability for follow-up appointments. Some clients will benefit from a series planned well in advance. Others will be better served by one familiar treatment and a dependable routine at home. Build a flexible timeline An early consultation creates the widest range of choices. Several weeks or months before an event, you may have time to establish home care, assess the barrier, and consider a series of treatments when appropriate. Closer to the date, focus on approaches the client has tolerated well and allow for any expected recovery. In the final days, prioritize predictability and avoid introducing unfamiliar procedures or strong products. Exact timing depends on the treatment, the client's history, and your training and protocols; a generic countdown should never replace an individual assessment.

36

The most effective holiday booking conversation begins with the client's plans and ends with a realistic treatment schedule. Make rebooking part of the appointment Once you agree on a plan, offer specific booking dates instead of an openended reminder. “Let's reserve your November visit now, then decide at that appointment whether you need a final facial before your event” is more helpful than “Come back next month.” Confirm which visit is for corrective work, which is for maintenance, and which is closest to the event. Put those details in the client record so the next appointment continues the same conversation.

For a client interested in fall peels, explain that more intensive treatment is not always the fastest route to an event-ready appearance. Prep, spacing, and recovery all matter. A client with an irritated barrier might need a different plan first. If their desired result requires more time than the calendar allows, be honest about what can realistically be accomplished before the event and what should wait until afterward.

If you sell a series, describe the purpose of each visit and how the plan may change based on the skin's response. Do not promise that a set number of appointments will erase pigmentation, resolve acne, or guarantee a particular look in photos. Give the client a clear price, schedule, cancellation terms, and an understanding of any home-care costs before they commit.

This is also an opportunity to coordinate facial appointments with other beauty services. Ask whether the client has scheduled waxing, brows, injectables, laser, or another procedure so you can plan appropriately within your scope and follow relevant provider guidance. You do not need to manage every service on their calendar, but you do need enough information to avoid conflicting recommendations.

Communicate before the calendar is full Your marketing can make planning easier for clients without creating artificial urgency. A short email or story might say, “Have a November or December event coming up? Book a skin consultation or your next facial now so we can plan treatments around your date.” Share a simple booking guide that distinguishes between longer-term skin

October2026

LNEonline.com

goals and a last-minute refresh. If your weekends truly fill early, say when availability is limited; do not imply scarcity that does not exist. Use your records to reach out thoughtfully to clients who have expressed event goals or normally book a fall treatment. A personal message can reference their previous plan without assuming they want to buy a package. For members, review their upcoming appointments and offer to adjust the sequence to fit their travel or celebrations. The goal is to make their existing care more useful. Holiday planning also protects the business. A calendar booked in advance helps you anticipate staffing, supplies, and appointment lengths. It reduces the pressure to squeeze a complex treatment into a short opening or sell a risky last-minute upgrade. Track which conversations turn into bookings, which appointment times fill first, and where you run out of suitable slots. Those observations can inform next year's schedule. The most effective holiday booking conversation begins with the client's plans and ends with a realistic treatment schedule. When you start in October, you give yourself room to practice good judgment—and give your clients a calmer path to feeling ready for their events.
