THIS IS LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Our nation’s beloved 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was a native of neighboring Kentucky. But you might not know that he envisioned “a great university for the people of this area” here in the Cumberland Gap. One hundred forty years later, Lincoln Memorial University is the heir of that vision, and we are very proud to wear his name and embrace his legacy. Nestled in the pristine Appalachian Mountain range, LMU’s main campus in Harrogate, TN, is both scenic and historic. About 55 miles north of Knoxville, TN, we’re perfectly poised to offer a liberal arts education. A main campus full of activities for residential students and 11 extended sites in surrounding areas, LMU provides educational experiences to suit your life. With over 30 academic majors ranging from accounting to wildlife and fisheries biology, success is within your reach. Most important, LMU is a close-knit community filled with people who care. Students can expect personal attention with an average class size of 14. At LMU, students build relationships that last, and they learn lessons they’ll carry for life.

PRESIDENT / ATHLETIC DIRECTOR B. James Dawson, Ed.D. President

Roger Vannoy Athletics Director

A native Hoosier, Dawson earned a BA and a MA at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind., and began his academic career as an admissions counselor at his alma mater. While still working at the University of Evansville, he received his doctorate in administration of higher education from Indiana University. During his tenure at the University of Evansville, Dawson held a variety of administrative positions culminating with a vice president post.

Vannoy became Lincoln Memorial University’s Athletic Director in the Spring of 2007. During that time, he has guided LMU’s transition from the Gulf South Conference to the South Atlantic Conference and the department’s development into one of the premier Division II programs in the nation. A native of Harrogate, Tennessee, Vannoy graduated from Lincoln Memorial in 1975. He immediately went into coaching the girls’ varsity team at Powell Valley High School, his alma mater. From 1975-82 he compiled a 133-58 record as head coach of the Lady Indians and won several district titles.

In 1988 he moved on to Fort Hays State University where he served as the vice president for student and institution development. He was responsible for development, alumni relations, public relations and governmental relations at the institution, which is part of the Kansas Regents system.

In 1982, he took over the helm of a LMU women’s basketball program that had compiled a 52-50 record over the past four seasons. By his third season, the team posted their first of seven consecutive 20-win seasons.

Dawson gained national recognition for his contributions to the field of alcohol and drug abuse prevention. As a member of the Presidents Leadership Group, he joined five other college and university presidents in a concerted effort to involve the leadership of institutions of higher education in the fight against irresponsible and illegal use of drugs and alcohol. He also serves on the national board for BACCHUS and Gamma. The BACCHUS Network is a university and community based network focusing on comprehensive health and safety initiatives.

During his 25 years he would compile a 463-246 record, which ranks him in the top 25 Division II coaches in total victories. Seven of his teams were conference champions and one would boast the highest GPA amongst NCAA women’s basketball teams that season. Twelve of his 25 teams won at least 20 games in a season, and he coached 21 LMU hall of famers, 16 all-conference performers and 5 All-Americans.

Dawson served as president of Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. from 2002 until July 2009. With Dawson at the helm, Coker College successfully completed a $23 million capital campaign. This fundraising effort enabled the college to make significant investments in the campus community, including the construction of the 40,000-square foot, $6.5 million Charles W. and Joan S. Coker Library-Information Technology Center. Several millions of dollars also went to improving academic programs, residence halls and campus landscaping. Coker College also experienced considerable enrollment growth during Dawson’s presidency. Dawson served his first presidency at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn., where he served from 1995 until 2002.

Vannoy’s retirment from the coaching ranks following the 2006-07 season aforded him the opportunity to take over as Lincoln Memorial University’s athletics director and to continue to serve his alma mater. Vannoy and his wife Pam reside in Harrogate.

Dawson joined the administration at Lincoln Memorial University in July 2009 and serves as president at the main campus in Harrogate, Tenn. He is a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International and completed the CASE institute for Advancement at Dartmouth University. Dawson and his wife, Karen, have two children and three grandchildren.

THE THE TRI-STATE TRI-STATE AREA AREA

The LMU campus is located in Harrogate, Tennessee, two miles south of where the states of Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky come together. The three counties that compose the tri-state region (Claiborne in Tennessee, Bell in Kentucky and Lee in Virginia) are home to approximately 86,500 residents, with 10,500 of those living a short drive from campus through the Cumberland Gap Tunnel in nearby Middlesboro, Kentucky. If one wants a “big city” atmosphere several cities or large metropolitan areas are within a three hour drive including: Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Morristown and the Tri-cities (Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson City) in Tennessee, Lexington, Richmond and Somerset in Kentucky, and Asheville, North Carolina. The area is rich in scenery and history with two national parks, five national forests, over 20 state parks, 15 lakes and numerous historic sites and museums all within a two hour drive from campus.

TEX TURNER ARENA

B. FRANK “TEX” TURNER ARENA Home of the Railsplitters

The B. Frank “Tex” Turner Arena has been the home of the Railsplitters men’s and women’s basketball teams since 1991. Since then, it has become known as one of the top basketball facilities at the Division II level. The arena replaced the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium, which had been the home of LMU basketball since 1948. The 87,000 square foot complex seats 5,009 for basketball contests with another 1,000 portable seats available for other events. The distance from the playing floor to the roof is 40 feet, the equivalent of a two-story building. The arena is 230 feet (east to west) and 282 feet (north to south). It contains over 81,866 square feet of floor space, and over 4 million cubic feet of space. The arena also serves as a practice facility for the golf, soccer, baseball and softball teams. Over the years, several concerts as well as district and regional tournaments have been held in the arena. The LMU spring and fall commencement services and pinning ceremonies have been held there since 1991. LMU’s athletic offices are located on the lower level, with the exception of cross country/track, lacrosse, softball and volleyball. Also located on the lower level are the university press and the university post office. The LMU Athletes Hall of Fame Room, the Turner Room and a classroom are also located on the lower level and are often used by campus and community groups for meetings and other functions. The athletic training room and the weight room (both recently refurbished) are located on the lower level within easy access of the playing floor and air-conditioned dressing rooms. The upper level contains a ticket office and other offices as well as the Dean Bailey Trophy Room, which houses trophies and other memorabilia dating back to the 1920’s and is a memorial to former coach Dean Bailey. The upper concourse also is open to the public as a walking track and is extremely popular with the local community. Entrances to the building are located on the north, south, and east ends. There are a total of 24 entrance doors to the arena (handicap access is available on both levels). The arena was named after former LMU football standout B. Frank “Tex”Turner, who donated the funds for it’s construction. Work on the multi-million dollar facility began on May 7, 1988, and on February 2, 1991, the Railsplitters and Lady Railsplitters held their first contests in the facility when they hosted the University of Alabama-Huntsville in a doubleheader. The women won 112-95 and the men lost 85-69.

2014-15 SEASON PREVIEW While many of the names and faces on the court will be the same, the 2014-15 version of the LMU women’s basketball team will feature many new things. In addition to a new court and new logo, there is a new staff and a new attitude that has generated a lot of attention and anticipation for the upcoming season. The women’s basketball program turns over a new leaf for the 2014-15 campaign as Krystal Evans takes over the reins for the Lady Railsplitters following Roger Hodge’s resignation after three seasons roaming the sidelines for the Blue and Gray. Boasting a long history of success as well as a deep track record of putting together talented recruiting classes, Evans is prime candidate to continue the resurgent growth of the women’s basketball program. Evans is not alone in her efforts as she welcomes associate head coach Brooke Shae Wilkinson and graduate assistant Chandler Merkerson to the bench, both of whom bring a wide array of basketball experience to the LMU program. Evans arrives in Harrogate after serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons with the Georgetown Hoyas, where she was responsible for signing the nation’s ninth-ranked recruiting class. Included in that group, Evans inked the eventual consensus 2014 Big East Freshman of the Year, Natalie Butler. Following her collegiate playing career at Southern Mississippi and Liberty University, Evans began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Southern Mississippi before joining forces with her father Rick Reeves as an assistant coach and later an associate head coach at Gardner-Webb University. During her nine seasons with the Runnin’ Bulldogs, Evans was a part of several noteworthy achievements. Gardner-Webb captured the 2009-10 Big South Conference regular season title, which was only a prelude to the Bulldogs collecting their first-ever Big South tournament championship a season later. That win propelled GWU to its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. After a stellar playing career under Evans’ father, Rick Reeves, at Gardner-Webb, associate head coach Brooke Shae Wilkinson embarks on her first season alongside Evans. Wilkinson brings prior knowledge of the South Atlantic Conference to the sidelines as she served as a graduate assistant at Wingate University from 2006-08 while also aiding Mars Hill University as an assistant coach from 2008-10. During her two-year stint with Wingate, Wilkinson was instrumental in the Bulldogs appearing in back-to-back NCAA Southeast Regionals and advancing to the Elite Eight in 2008. Wilkinson’s most recent collegiate coaching tenure was a two-year stead at her alma mater, Gardner-Webb, from 2010-12 where she coached alongside Krystal Evans. Wilkinson was on staff for the Bulldogs when they claimed their first bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Big South tournament title. Graduate assistant Chandler Merkerson begins the transition from player to coach after wrapping up a four-year career at the University of North Florida this past season. During her senior campaign with the Ospreys, Merkerson was an Atlantic Sun Academic Honor Roll selection that averaged 4.4 points per game and 3.9 rebounds, turning in a 13-point performance against Florida. Merkerson made 86 appearances in her four seasons with North Florida. The Lady Railsplitters return three guards that appeared in all 27 games last season, a group led by senior Aisjah Lee (Louisville, Ky.), junior point guard Britney Guy (Locust Grove, Ga.) and senior Katrina Ottesen (Chandler, Ariz.). Lee, formerly Aisjah Roan, started all 27 games for the Lady Railsplitters during the 2013-14 campaign, logging a team-leading 834 minutes while pacing Lincoln Memorial to a third-place South Atlantic Conference finish. The All-SAC first team selection and Walters State Community College transfer wrapped up the year shooting 42.5 percent from the floor while leading the team with 15.2 point per game, which ranked eighth in the SAC. Lee pulled down 5.6 rebounds per contest, the second-highest mark on the team and the 19th-most among SAC student-athletes, while leading the league with 2.4 steals a game. Lee accounted for 66 total steals, including a career-high eight thefts in a win at Mars Hill. She was only the sixth player in school history to record eight steals in a single game. The Louisville, Ky. native led the Lady Railsplitters in scoring in 17 of her 27 appearances, surpassing the double-digit scoring threshold 22 times. Lee recorded three double-doubles, posted a career-high 27 points against Lewis and accounted for a career best 16 boards against Anderson. Ottesen logged 603 total minutes and an average of 22.3 minutes per game during the 2013-14 season, her first with the Lady Railsplitters. The Chandler, Ariz. product started the first 15 games of her debut season before settling into a reserve role. The Central Arizona Junior College transfer scored 10 or more points 12 times including a season-high 20 points against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. The 5-7 guard averaged 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds for the season, knocking down a team-leading 48 three-pointers marked by a career-best five trifectas in that 20-point outburst against Lenoir-Rhyne. Ottesen’s 48 three-pointers were the eighth-most in the league. Junior point guard Britney Guy recorded 483 total minutes and 17.9 per contest while starting eight games for the Lady Railsplitters during her sophomore season. The Locust Grove, Ga. native shot at an efficient .447 clip from the field, buoyed by a 5-for-6 (.883) effort against Anderson in the quarterfinals of the SAC Championship in which she posted a career-high 12 points. The left-handed, 5-4 guard averaged 3.8 points and 2.1 assists per contest. In addition to Lincoln Memorial’s veteran trio, senior Ashley Pritchett (Decatur, Ga.) and sophomore Sydnie Anderson (Cleveland, Tenn.) bring depth to LMU’s backcourt. Pritchett appeared in nine games for the Lady Railsplitters in 2013-14, while Anderson checking into 13 games and averaged 2.5 points in her first collegiate season. Among the newcomers in the backcourt, the Lady Railsplitters welcome a pair of deadly sharpshooters in Coastal Carolina transfer Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.) and Louisburg College transfer Kiara Rawls (Killeen, Texas) for the 2014-15 campaign. Along with that pair, Lincoln Memorial’s guard play will be bolstered by the addition of former 1,000 point prep scorers in freshmen Ross Mathis (Greer, S.C) and Shea Coker (Knoxville, Tenn.). Pittman arrives in Harrogate after one season at Coastal Carolina, where she averaged 7.4 points and 4.3 boards per game. The Liberty, Ky. native scored double-figures on nine separate occasions for the Chanticleers, including a career-best 19 points accumulated on five three-pointers against Liberty. Pittman produced a brilliant prep career at nearby Casey Country High School, accounting for more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during her four-year career. Pittman canned 31 three-pointers in her one season with Division I Coastal Carolina, averaging 20.1 minutes per contest. Rawls steps onto the Tex Turner Arena hardwood after a standout junior college career at Louisburg College as the Killeen, Texas native averaged 15.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game during her senior season. The 2014 NJCAA Division II All-America second team selection poured in 35 points against Lake Michigan College last season, setting the Johnson County Community College Gymnasium record for points in a game in the process. Rawls bagged 47 three-pointers and helped lead the Hurricanes to a 24-7 mark. Mathis is primed to make her collegiate debut after a remarkable prep career at Blue Ridge High School in Greer, S.C. The 5-4 point guard scored 1,734 points during her four-year stead, averaging 18 points per game while recording 403 boards and dishing out 324 assists. Mathis was an All-Region first team selection during every season of her prep career. Fellow freshman Shea Coker arrives at Lincoln Memorial after a standout career at Powell High School in nearby Knoxville, Tenn., as she completed her career with 1,040 points and 331 rebounds. The 5-8 guard was slapped with District 3AAA Most Valuable Player honors in 2014 after averaging 14.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Coker led her team to a perfect 16-0 district record on the heels of 15 double-digit scoring outbursts. The team will be tasked with replacing recent graduates Kalasia Green and Haley Nelson. Green pitched in 7.7 points per game in 19 starts and 27 appearances, while Nelson accounted for 4.8 points per in 22 outings. Three post players that appeared in all 27 games during last season’s third-place South Atlantic Conference finish return, while the front court will be bolstered by the addition of two new bigs to the rotation. Senior Samantha Satterlee (Junction, City, Kan.) leads the pack of returners after turning in a solid debut in the Blue and Gray during the 2013-14 campaign. The Junction City, Kan. native and Butler Community College transfer started 26 of her 27 appearances last season, logging 22.6 minutes per game while pulling down 5.3 boards per game. Satterlee contributed 9.3 points per game on a cumulative 40.9 percent clip from the floor, while displaying an ability to stretch the floor by knocking down 24 three-pointers. Satterlee scored 10 points or more on 15 separate occasions, highlighted by back-to-back 16 point outbursts against Brevard and Coker. Satterlee pitched in 15 points in two of the team’s last five games including the season finale against Anderson. She grabbed six or more rebounds in 11 games including an 11-rebound performance in that clash with Brevard to finish off her first double-double as a Lady Railsplitter.

2014-15 SEASON PREVIEW Junior forward Kortnay Cox (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) averaged 10.5 minutes per game in her 27 appearances during her sophomore campaign, pitching in 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds over that span. As with Satterlee, Cox possesses the ability to stretch the defense as the forward shot 37.5 percent from behind the three-point arc (9-24). The 5-10 stretch forward scored in 17 games, headlined by a career-best 12 points against Tusculum. Four days before that, Cox accumulated nine points in a win over eventual SAC regular season champion Wingate. Cox collected a career-high eight rebounds in just 14 minutes against Brevard. Entering her second year in the program, sophomore Josey Harding (Middletown, Ohio) aims to build on a solid freshman season as the 6-2 center averaged 13.1 minutes per game, accumulating 3.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest. The Middletown, Ohio native rejected 16 shot attempts in her debut season in the Blue and Gray. Harding amassed a career-high 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting in a 59-56 win at Wingate and she pitched in nine points just four nights later in an 80-71 triumph over Carson-Newman. Harding knocked down 48 percent of her shots (24-50) while amassing 107 total boards in 354 minutes. She picked up a career-high nine rebounds against both Lewis and Tusculum. The Lady Railsplitters’ front court rotation features three entirely new players to the program, as Middle Tennessee State transfer Stephanie Smith (La Vergne, Tenn.), Walters State Community College transfer Breona Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Central Georgia Tech College transfer Lakeisha Beasley (College Park, Ga.) are expected to make an immediate impact for the Lady Railsplitters. Smith, a 6-5 center, arrives in Harrogate after serving in a reserve role for the MTSU Blue Raiders for the past few seasons. The La Vergne, Tenn. native is among the tallest players in program history, ranking right alongside former standout center Lauren Cochran. Coming out of La Vergne High School in 2010, Smith was ranked as the No.25 post player in the nation according to ESPN while also ranking among the top 100 players nationally in Dan Olson’s Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Hall averaged 9.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists at Walters State while helping them win back-to-back TJCAA titles and earning bids to the NJCAA national tournament in both of her seasons there. After redshirting the 2013-14 campaign due to an injury, Lakeisha Beasley is ready to make her debut for Lincoln Memorial. Beasley posted a solid sophomore season at Central Georgia Tech College before deciding to transfer to LMU, as she averaged 7.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. The depth of the front court will help to ease the burden of MaRanda Boddie’s departure, as the Springfield, Ohio product completed her senior campaign averaging 8.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest while leading the South Atlantic Conference with 59 blocked shots. Boddie left the women’s basketball program as the alltime career leader in blocked shots with 166 in only three seasons. She’s one of only eight players in program history to amass at least 600 career rebounds as collected 670 boards (5th in school history). The 2014-15 schedule features a total of 28 regular-season games with six nonconference contests and 22 South Atlantic Conference clashes. Of those 28 contests, the Lady Railsplitters are set to host 14 match-ups within the friendly confines of Tex Turner Arena. The Lady Railsplitters are scheduled to kick off the season against Lander at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 15 in the first of two games encompassing the SAC/Peach Belt Conference Challenge, which is being hosted by Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn. Lincoln Memorial and Lander have not faced off since 2011 as the Bearcats knocked off the Lady Railsplitters 85-66 in Jefferson City, Tenn. while also topping LMU 76-48 the previous year in Morrow, Ga. The following afternoon, LMU returns to Holt Fieldhouse to square off with USC-Aiken for the first time since 1991. The Lady Railsplitters split with the Pacers that year, capturing a 77-68 victory in Harrogate while falling 85-66 in Aiken, S.C. later in the season. After that opening weekend the Lady Railsplitters will turn their attention to South Atlantic Conference action with a trio of early league tests, beginning with a bout against Mars Hill on November 19 in the Tex Turner Arena debut followed by road trips to Queens (11/22) and Anderson (11/25). Both Mars Hill and Queens finished near the bottom of the SAC standings in 2013-14 as Mars Hill concluded the season in 10th-place overall with a 7-15 conference mark while Queens wrapped up the year at 6-16. Anderson clinched a postseason berth last season as the Trojans finished deadlocked with Newberry for sixth in the SAC at 11-11. The Trojans hold a slim 6-4 margin against the Lady Railsplitters in all-time head-to-head affairs as LMU claimed both regular season contests during the 2013-14 campaign before falling to the Trojans in overtime, 71-64, in last season’s SAC Championship quarterfinal. The Lady Railsplitters begin a five-game home stand following their early SAC stint, hosting Lees-McRae (11/29) and Bluefield State (12/1) for a pair of non-conference tips. Lincoln Memorial currently holds winning records against both squads as LMU claims a slight 7-3 advantage against the Bobcats while boasting an 11-5 mark against the Blues. Lincoln Memorial and Lees-McRae have not tangled since the 2008 season while Bluefield State will meet the Lady Railsplitters for the first time since 2004 as LMU looks for its fifth consecutive win over the visitors from Bluefield, W.V. LMU’s five-game home stand also features a pair of SAC clashes with Coker (12/6) and Newberry (12/15) followed by a nonconference contest against King on December 17. The Cobras have beaten the Lady Railsplitters in three straight tilts since their initial meeting in 2012, while Newberry commands a 14-5 all-time advantage over LMU as the two squads split last season’s regular-season doubleheader with each squad winning on their home turf. King travels to Tex Turner Arena having beaten Lincoln Memorial on only two occasions since the two teams first met in 1974 as the Lady Railsplitters have won five straight over the Tornado dating back to 2010. The Lady Railsplitters complete the 2014 portion of the schedule with their final nonconference tip on December 20, traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. to play the Indianapolis Greyhounds. Indianapolis handed Lincoln Memorial a 69-46 loss last year in Harrogate. The Greyhounds also defeated the Lady Railsplitters 84-50 on December 20, 2008 in Indianapolis. Following a 14-day break for the Holidays, the Lady Railsplitters return to face a grueling stretch of South Atlantic Conference adversaries. Lincoln Memorial travels to Lenoir-Rhyne (1/3), hosts Anderson (1/7), and travels to Wingate (1/10) for the first three bouts of 2015. The Lady Railsplitters will look to snap a four-game skid against the Bears before aiming to make it three in a row against the Bulldogs. LMU handed eventual SAC regular season and tournament champion Wingate two of its five conference losses last season. The Lady Railsplitters will host four of their next five contests at Tex Turner Arena as LMU is set to collide with Tusculum (1/14), Queens (1/17), Catawba (1/24) and Brevard (1/28) while also traveling to Mars Hill on January 21. Four of Lincoln Memorial’s five opponents during that span finished at the bottom of the SAC a season ago as Tusculum (8-14) and Brevard (6-16) along with Mars Hill and Queens did not qualify for postseason play. Lincoln Memorial is slated to play six of its final nine regular season match-ups on the road, beginning with the final tilt against Coker on January 31, followed by the first of two clashes with in-state rival Carson-Newman. The first meeting between the Lady Railsplitters and Eagles will be held in Harrogate on February 2. The Lady Railsplitters and Eagles have met 95 times in the history of the two programs with Carson-Newman holding a slight 46-39 margin over LMU. Lincoln Memorial has beaten the Eagles three straight times as the Lady Railsplitters swept the series last year while beating C-N 64-62 in overtime during the 2012-13 campaign. The Lady Railsplitters road heavy conclusion rolls through Newberry (2/7), Tusculum (2/11), Brevard (2/18), Carson-Newman (2/25) and Catawba (2/28) with home bouts against Lenoir-Rhyne (2/14) and Wingate (2/21) mixed in to wrap up the regular season. The Lady Railsplitters are tentatively scheduled to celebrate Senior Day on February 21 in the final regular season home tip with the Wingate Bulldogs. The South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship begins with the quarterfinal round on March 4. The top eight teams in the final regular-season standings qualify for tournament play, while each of the top four teams will host their respective quarterfinal contest. Furman’s Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. will host the two semifinals as well as the title game on March7-8. The NCAA Division II Southeast Regional will be held at a location to be determined March 13-16, while the NCAA Elite Eight is set for a Sioux Fall, S.D. showdown from March 24-27.

KRYSTAL EVANS

HEAD COACH SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI, 2002 FIRST SEASON Krystal Evans was named head coach of the LMU Women’s Basketball program in June, 2014. She brings a depth of coaching experience with a pedigree of success in the industry and a history of recruiting that is unmatched in the South Atlantic Conference. Most recently, she served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in the Big East Conference with the Georgetown University Hoyas, where she signed the highest ranked recruiting class in program history. Among the nation’s ninth-ranked class, Evans inked Natalie Butler, who was unanimously selected as the 2014 Big East Freshman of the Year. Long before joining the Hoyas, Evans got her start in coaching as the graduate assistant at the University of Southern Mississippi during the 2002-03 season. During that short tenure, she assisted in all areas of recruiting while taking on primary responsibility for the backcourt. From there, Evans moved on to Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., where she trained under her father, head coach Rick Reeves. Evans wore many hats during her nine-season tenure at Gardner-Webb (2003-10), acting as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for seven seasons before elevating to the associate head coaching role from 2010-12. Throughout her stay, she had a hand in nearly every aspect of the program including orchestrating all of the recruiting reach, directing practice, scouting and game planning for opponents and player development. Evans’ stay with the Runnin’ Bulldogs was marked by a number of noteworthy achievements. Gardner-Webb captured the 2009-10 Big South Conference regular season championship, highlighted by a single-season school record 28 wins. One year later, Gardner-Webb won its first-ever Big South Championship with a one-point victory over top-seeded Liberty in the Championship game. That win ushered in another program first as the Bulldogs earned its first bid to the NCAA Division I Tournament. All told, Gardner-Webb made three appearances in the Big South Championship title game during Evans’ tenure. Evans experienced a successful playing career at both Southern Mississippi and Liberty University. At Liberty, she helped led the Flames to Big South Conference regular season and tournament championships during the 1998-99 campaign as the program earned its firstever No.15 seed for the NCAA Tournament. During that same season, she was named Big South Rookie of the Week on one occasion. Evans boasts a highly-respected coaching pedigree as her father, Rick Reeves, has compiled 27 years of collegiate experience, while her sister, Kim Brewton, has served as the assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State since 2010. Rick Reeves - the all-time wins leader at Gardner-Webb - has surpassed over 400 wins in his illustrious career. “I truly hope that the Harrogate community embraces my family and myself as I intend to bring Krystal discusses strategy with her father Rick during a Gardner-Webb game. championships to this program,” Evans said. “I have been very fortunate to have a group of accomplished coaches in my circle to guide me throughout my career and I am determined to make them proud. This is truly a happy day and I am beyond grateful for this opportunity.” 2014-15 LMU Women’s Basketball

I wish Lincoln Memorial University and Krystal Evans much success.” - Sharon Brummell, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business and Finance/Senior Woman Administrator at Georgetown University “As her father I am so proud of the role model Krystal is to the young women she coaches! I knew Krystal was going to be a successful Head Coach since she was 7 years old when she started telling me the offenses and defenses I should have ran after games. I truly believe any parent would want their daughter coached by Krystal as she is the total package: wonderful mother, wife, and professional all in one person! She is a wonderful Christian Head Coach!” - Rick Reeves, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Gardner-Webb University “Krystal brings a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm to the program. Her reference recommendations read like a Who’s Who of the top women’s basketball coaches in America. Coming to Lincoln Memorial after serving as the recruiting coordinator for the Georgetown Hoyas, she is literally on the cutting edge with recruiting globally. All of these factors are reason enough to hire Coach Evans, however, the fact that she is from a highly respectable coaching family as well as being a quality person simply makes her the ‘total package’ in my estimation.” - Roger Vannoy, Lincoln Memorial University Director of Athletics

BROOKE SHAE WILKINSON ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH/ RECRUITING COORDINATOR GARDNER-WEBB, 2006 FIRST SEASON

Brooke Shae Wilkinson was named Associate Head Coach in July, 2014. Wilkinson brings a wide array of collegiate coaching experience as well as a familiarity with the South Atlantic Conference to the Lincoln Memorial University coaching staff. “I am extremely excited to become a part of the Lincoln Memorial University community,” Wilkinson said. “I want to thank Athletic Director Roger Vannoy and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Krystal Reeves-Evans for this opportunity and the confidence to allow me to step back into college coaching and continue to pursue my dream. I look forward to building a successful program and helping our players strive to become great role models in their future endeavors.” Most recently, Wilkinson served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Gardner-Webb University from 2010-12. In that capacity, she was involved in nearly every aspect of the program including guard development and on-floor coaching, academic advisement, pre-game scouting, management of recruiting travel, budget and database, as well as summer camp coordination. During Wilkinson’s tenure with Gardner-Webb, the Runnin’ Bulldogs captured the Big South Conference Tournament title and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2011. Prior to her arrival at Gardner-Webb, Wilkinson served as the assistant coach at Mars Hill University from 2008-10. Before joining the Lions’ coaching staff, Wilkinson began her collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Wingate University from 2006-08. In only two seasons with Wingate, the Bulldogs appeared in back-toback NCAA Southeast Regionals, capturing the 2008 region crown to advance to the NCAA D-II Elite Eight. One interesting bit of trivia is that she coached against Roger Vannoy in his final game as the LMU women’s coach.

LMU ATHLETE’S HALL OF FAME

The LMU Athlete’s Hall of Fame was founded in 1981 and the first class of 46 was inducted during homecoming activities that year. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to identify and honor those athletes that developed outstanding skills and represented LMU in a wholesome manner. The original location of the Hall of Fame display was in the Mars Gym but with the opening of the Turner Arena in 1991, the Hall moved to it’s current location in the Southeast corner of the Arena on the ground floor.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TIMELINE Ca. 1910 -- First LMU women’s basketball team formed. The actual year is unknown but the first mention of a women’s team in available records is in 1910.

1913 -- LMU publishes their first yearbook. Included in it is a photo of the women’s athletic teams, including basketball.

1924 -- The women’s basketball team plays the first game in LMU’s first gym, known as “The

Barn.” (Up to this point, LMU’s home games had been played in the building housing the auditorium. That building was replaced by Duke Hall and so LMU needed a separate gymnasium. The building’s official name, if it had one, is not known.)

1925-26 -- The first known LMU women’s coach, Mrs. Hobart Smith, died mid-way through the season. Remaining games coached by a Miss Atkinson.

Nov. 1930 -- LMU registrar Hugh Trent Ramsey assumes coaching mantle. His first game is a loss to Milligan. Their next loss would not come until 1934.

1913 Team

1931 -- Team steamrolls their competition, winning by an average of 18 points a game, a feat all the more amazing

when you consider that until 1932 all baskets in the women’s game counted only one point. Their closest contest is a 25-23 win at Middle Tennessee State Teacher’s College. The team is named the top women’s team in the Southeast by several media outlets. they are also named the Tennessee State Women’s Basketball Champions and would remain so until the lack of teams make the title stop being awarded (see below)

1931 -- Bowing to pressure from the Women’s Division of the National Amateur Athletic Federation, many schools (including Tennessee and Carson-Newman) drop intercollegiate women’s basketball over fears of it being “too rough” and “becoming like the men’s game”. Over the next few years, more and more schools either disband their programs or change them over to intramural club teams.

Feb. 2, 1934 -- LMU loses their first game since the 1930 season, a 38-33 loss to Milligan (who were also the last team that beat LMU) in Harrogate.

1936-37 -- Coach Ramsey takes a sabbatical from coaching after the first three games in order to complete his

Master’s degree. Team is coached the rest of the season by LMU men’s basketball and track coach J.D. Alexander. (Alexander is also one of the top officials on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Committee during the 1930s, so he had a very busy schedule.)

Dec. 7, 1936 -- In a unique contest, both LMU teams played Olsen’s All-American Red Heads, which was a

travelling squad of professional women’s basketball players who toured the country playing men’s teams, often playing seven days a week. (They were the first women’s basketball team inducted into the Naismith Baskwetball Hall of Fame.) In this game, the LMU women played the first half using the women’s 5-on-5 halfcourt rules and led at the half 35-31. The second half saw the men play the Red Heads using the men’s rules. The Red Heads beat the men by four points.

1937 -- Coach Ramsey returns to the sideline and would lead the LMU women for until the team was disbanded due in 1942 to World War II.

Shirley Albright, 1920s

Feb. 12, 1938 -- LMU played a Clinton (Tennessee) Ravens Independent team made up of former LMU players. The teams battled to a 48-48 halftime score. Due to the length of time the first half took to play, the weather conditions and because the men had a conference game with Maryville coming up after this game it was decided to call the game as is, making LMU one of the few schools in the nation with a tie on their record.

1939-40 -- LMU goes 10-0. It is their last undefeated season to date. Feb. 21, 1942 -- LMU defeated Knoxville Business College 32-23 in what would be Coach Ramsey’s final game.

1942-43 -- Season canceled due to World War II. 1943-44 and 1944-45 -- LMU made an effort to have women’s basketball teams, but due to

war rationing and other issues they only played five games each year, with LMU compiling an 8-2 record over both seasons. Former LMU men’s player and current P.E. teacher C.W. Bradley ran the team during this period.

1945 -- With the end of the war and attempt was made to field a team, but Coach Ramsey

declined to return as coach. By this time LMU was the only college in the area attempting to offer intercollegiate women’s basketball, so the decision was made to reduce it to club status, though the school would offer letters to women who competed in what was known as the Women’s Athletic Association until the 1960s.

2014-15 LMU Women’s Basketball

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TIMELINE 1972 -- Following the passage of Title IX in 1972, LMU restores women’s basketball as an intercollegiate sport. P.E. professor Dr. Phyllis Noah assumes the coaching duties.

Dec. 1972 -- In their first intercollegiate game in 27 years, LMU picked up the 65-48 win over Knoxville College. This is also the first women’s game played in the Mary Mars Gym and the first women’s game at LMU played under the “modern” 5-on-5 full-court rules.

Feb. 22, 1974 -- Playing in the Tennessee College Women’s Sports Federation Eastern Division Tournament, LMU

plays three games in one day. They defeat Milligan, lose to East Tennessee State and beat Maryville. The loss to ETSU knocks them to the loser’s bracket, where they would get knocked out by Carson Newman two days later. (Future UNC coach Sylvia Rhyne scored 11 points for C-N in that game.) The tournament was won by Coach Margaret Hutson’s Tennessee Lady Vols, who defeated ETSU in the championship game.

1976 -- Coach Noah steps aside and is replace by Elaine Minton. Minton, a 1976 LMU graduate, becomes the first (and to date, only) former player to coach the women’s basketball team.

Spring, 1978 -- Women’s basketball offers scholarships for the first time. The first two signees (who both signed the same day) are Sunbright High School’s Juanita Hall and Corbin High School’s Lesia Chadwell. The women will also be competing in a conference for the first time in the 1978-79 season, so Coach Minton (who will eventually become the Athletic Director) is replaced by Dennis Mann.

Dec. 7, 1978 -- LMU plays Roane State for the second time that season, losing 77-61. This game is notable because

Juanita Hall

of it features two future SEC coaches, Roane State coach Andy Landers (Georgia) and Bernadette Locke (Kentucky).

Summer, 1979 -- Coach Mann leaves LMU and is replaced by men’s assistant coach Dave Miller. Miller will also continue his duties with the men’s squad. Feb. 19, 1981 -- Juanita Hall becomes the first women’s player at LMU to reach the 1,000 point mark in a 60-58 VSAC Tournament loss at Tennessee Wesleyan. Summer, 1982 -- Dave Miller steps aside to focus on the men’s team after the 1981-82 season. LMU Athletic

Director Elaine Minton wastes no time in replacing Miller with Powell Valley High School’s Roger Vannoy, who had compiled a 133-58 record and won several district titles there from 1975-82.

Nov. 18, 1982 -- Coach Vannoy gets his first win at LMU, a 76-73 win over Union College. Feb. 16, 1984 -- LMU reaches the 20-wins in a season mark for the first time with the 89-65 win over Lee in the

VSAC Tournament. They would have seven straight 20-win seasons, a streak broken when LMU joined the NCAA in 1991. This season also saw LMU enter the NAIA top 25 for the first time. They would remain there until 1990.

1985 -- Terry Whitehead become’s LMU’s first All-American. Dec. 1, 1986 - Feb. 24 1987 -- LMU has the longest win streak in school history, winning 26 consecutive games.

They also won their first-ever conference title as they went 10-0 in the Tennessee Valley Athletic Conference and won the conference tournament during this time. The streak was broken in the NAIA District 24 championship when LMU lost to Union University.

Nov. 24, 1987 -- Carrie Shoffner scores the first three-pointer in LMU history in the second half of a 103-57 win over Bryan.

LMU vs. C-N Jan. 25, 1986

Mar. 1, 1988 -- LMU caps off an 8-2 record in the TVAC regular season by winning the conference tournament with a 74-49 win over Tennessee Wesleyan. It is their second straight conference title.

1988 -- Sherry Chapman becomes LMU’s second All-American Feb. 28, 1989 -- The Lady Railsplitters make it three in a row as they win the TVAC regular season and tournament for the third consecutive season with the 8546 win at Carson-Newman.

1989-90 -- LMU begins the transition from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II. In the 1989-90 season they play mostly NCAA II schools but are allowed to compete in the TVAC tournament, which they win for the fourth straight year.

Mar. 2, 1989 -- Robin Adams becomes LMU’s all-time third All-American and ends her career as LMU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,678 points, having surpassed Carrie Shoffner earlier in the season. Shoffner ends her career as LMU’s all-time leader in steals with 252, a record which still stands.

Mar. 2, 1990 -- Monica Owens ends her career as LMU’s all-time leader in assists with 577, a record that still stands. Jan. 28, 1991 -- Playing in their final regularly-scheduled game in the Mary Mars Gym, LMU defeats East Tennessee State 86-78. Feb. 2, 1991 -- LMU opens up the new Tex Turner Arena with the 112-95 win over Alabama-Huntsville. Debbie Green scores the first basket. Mar. 1, 1991 -- Debbie Green becomes LMU’s first three-time All-American and the fourth LMU player named All-American. She also finished her career as LMU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,907 points, a record which still stands.

game and the postgame celebration were featured in a virtual tour on the NCAA website after the Turner Arena won in an online poll by the NCAA looking for the best Division II court in the nation.

June 2001 -- The team was named the top team in the NCAA Division II in terms of team GPA by the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association. LMU’s team GPA was higher than any school in Division I and the NAIA as well, according to the release.

Mar 14, 2003 -- Fifth-ranked and top-seeded Arkansas Tech defeats LMU 64-50 in the NCAA South Regional. This is LMU’s only NCAA Tournament appearance to date.

Mar. 6, 2004 -- A loss in the GSC semifinals to Henderson State ends the career of Hillary Ross, who leaves as the schools leader in rebounds, free throws and blocks. She is also the only player in LMU history to reach the 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound plateau, finishing with 1,220 points and 1,160 rebounds. All of her records still stand.

June, 2006 -- LMU leaves the GSC and joins the South Atlantic Conference.

LMU vs. UAH Feb. 24, 2001

* From 1978-86 the Volunteer State Athletic Conference was split into East and West Divisions. The top two teams in each division went to the tournament from 1978-80 with the overall winner representing the District in the NAIA National Tournament. From 1981-86 each division had their own tournament. The outcome of that tournament would determine the seedings for the District 24 Tournament, which was made up of the top four teams from both divisions. In 1986 the VSAC was split, with the East Division becoming the TVAC and the west the TCAC. The tournament format was set up so that the first two rounds were effectively the TVAC/ TCAC tournament and the winner from each conference would meet in the championship to determine the district champion. Even though LMU was not a member of the TVAC after 1989, this format allowed them to still compete in the post-season while the school made the transition to the NCAA Division II.

THE SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE The South Atlantic Conference is in its 39th year of athletic tradition and excellence. The distant forerunner of the South Atlantic Conference was the North State Atlantic Conference (NSIAC). The NSIAC was formed when the “Little Six”, as it was called, broke from the North Carolina Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1930. These charter members included Lenoir-Rhyne College, Atlantic Christian, Catawba College, Guilford College, Elon College, and High Point University. The North State continued to grow over the next 30 years, adding Western Carolina (1933), East Carolina (1947) and Pfeiffer (1960). A name change became necessary when the league accepted Newberry as its first South Carolina member in 1961. The league took on the name Carolinas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAC) on May 20th of that year. The CIAC saw several changes in the following years as East Carolina withdrew from the league in 1962. Appalachian State and Western Carolina followed in 1971 and 1976. All three landed in the Southern Conference. The South Atlantic Conference was founded in 1975 solely as a football conference. The league received its name from a contest in which Kurt Brenneman of Greensboro, NC became the first to submit the SAC-8 moniker. The SAC-8 consisted of Carson-Newman College, Catawba College, Elon College, Gardner-Webb University, Lenoir-Rhyne College, Mars Hill College, Newberry College, and Presbyterian College. Dr. Fred Bentley, of Mars Hill College, was named league president for its inaugural year, by a vote of the member institutions. After the first season of play in the SAC-8, the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College captured the first football title. In 1989, the league’s 15th year of operation, the South Atlantic Conference became a comprehensive, multisport conference. Doug Echols was named the league’s first Commissioner. That year the South Atlantic Conference sponsored 10 sports - football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s soccer, volleyball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis. Later the conference grew to 14 championship sports by adding women’s soccer (1990), men’s and women’s cross country (1993) and women’s golf (1999). In 2013, the sports of men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s track and field were added, increasing the number of championship sports to 18. The South Atlantic Conference was composed of the same eight member institutions from 1975 until 1988, when Wingate University replaced Newberry College as the eighth member institution. Newberry later rejoined the conference in 1996.

Inlotte, July N.C.; of 1998, Tusculum College was admitted as a member of the league, and Lincoln Memorial University began play in the conference in the Tusculum College in Greeneville, 18. academic year.
