Luke Seymour Architecture Portfolio Selected Works from 2020-2021 Third Year Architecture Student Benedictine College
In this project, we were tasked to design a fitting monument for the campus of Benedictine College (then Saint Benedict’s College) dedicated to students and alumni who fought in World War I.
I decided to design a tholos because, in addition to being a common monument type employed by the ancients, the approach to the site was situated at the convergence of several paths at very irregular angles, and you can easily approach the tholos from any direction. The veiled pylons in the foreground represent the loss and mourning of those left behind, and the tripod represents sacrifice. The wreath in the center of the tholos represents victory, while the shield represents the soldiers themselves. The seven columns represent the seven Sacraments that would have nourished the students while they were on campus.

CAMPUS GATEWAY FALL 2020 INK/WATERCOLOR WASH
For this project, we were tasked with designing a Tuscan Order gateway into the college campus. Since the college’s mission is to transform culture in America, I thought a triumphal arch would be fitting. In addition to serving as an entry into campus, this building also functions as a formal dining room for the president of the college to host guests of the college.

A MAUSOLEUM SPRING 2021 INK/WATERCOLOR WASH
In this project, we were prompted to design a mausoleum with an Eastfacing chapel inside of an outdoor room approached from the South. It needed to contain 40 full-body crypts for the family of the client. Since this is the place for a somber liturgy, there needed to be a processional pathway turning the corner into the mausoleum.
