Letter from the General Manager

Hello Everyone,

Now that September is past, is it officially time to have pumpkin spice everything? Also, has everyone noticed that large department stores are adding Christmas items for sale already? Each year it sure seems as though items are being put on the floor earlier. At the beginning of September, I noticed that Costco already had Christmas holiday goods for sale. Have we all forgotten about Halloween and Thanksgiving? It is very interesting times that we are all living. This is the time of year when it continues to get darker earlier. As always, lets watch out for each other when coming and going from the store. Safety is always a top priority and monitoring our surroundings is always great practice.

The top salesmen for September were Tony M. 1st place, Dominic T. 2nd place and Mark X. 3rd place. Great job gentlemen. Since the quarter has ended, the top 3 salesmen for Q3 were: Dominic T. 1st place, Danni Robinson 2nd place and Josh Bonton 3rd place for the quarter. Great job everyone! A big congratulations to Danni for hitting the top 3 for the quarter. Both Danni and Josh now qualify for the 4% weekly bonus. Watch out Dominic!

A few updates to mention for quarter 4. We would like to continue to push the importance of our layaway program. Our layaway balance is shrinking faster than it’s growing. We do have many items being redeemed from our layaways, but we also have plenty of floor inventory. Let’s secure some lost sales into some layaways. Also, our q4 goals for communicating with our clients is to do it more often via text, phone and email. Please continue to gather updated cell phone #s and email addresses. We want to follow up with our clients for their expiring layaways as well as loans. We much prefer not to own these items. To conclude, lets watch out for each other when coming and going from the store. Safety is always a top priority and monitoring our surroundings is always great practice. Now that it’s darker earlier, it’s always smart to stay vigilant coming and going. Stay safe everyone.

Sincerely,

There’s no shortage of remarkable ideas, what’s missing is the will to execute them.

Loyalty Pawn Family

Greetings Loyalty Family,

I know it sounds like I say this almost every month, but I can't believe it's October already. I don't know about you, but I'm ready for some cooler weather. The heat was getting out of control! I've been following the chats on Pawnbrokers helping Pawnbrokers and it seems that we aren't the only ones going through this tremendous surge in loan balance increase and decrease in sales. We have to make sure we are living our core values and being creative in selling the product that we have, especially with the holidays right around the corner. Layaways have always been a great help for us when we need to generate sales. This month, and we're going to continue to help those layaway numbers out with our 20% down 20% off layaway sale. Personally, I think this will be very beneficial for us especially with the amount of general goods that we have. This month, we're going to get to know one of Florin's newest team members: Johnathan Thao.

I rather work at the perfect job then winning the lottery because if you spend all your lottery money you don’t have anymore money to spend on what you need or want but a job is different because you work then you pay every week or every two weeks, or every one month.

8. Who would you want to be stranded with on a deserted island? I would like to be stranded with my cousin because we both have some same Comin that we like and we always talking about it.

9. If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to and why? If I have a chance to go back in time I wouldn’t go back because I do not like my pass

Roseville

Hello Team Loyalty,

I can’t believe it’s the starting of Q4! This year has just flown by, and I don’t know why but working at the pawn shop just feels like some kind of time warp. Time just passes by so fast. Typically, the 4th quarter of the year is a strong sales time for the company. It’s the holiday season, we have Black Friday and Christmas shopping coming up. So, the month of October, we are going to be having a Layaway Sale to help setup sales pickups for the holiday season. The sale is going to be 20% down for 20% off. This Layaway Sale will help customers lock in that holiday shopping and get a little savings at the same time. It’s very important that we stay aggressive and push for every sale. We need to continue to post online, Facebook Marketplace, Offer Up, and find other avenues to sell. Pass out business cards to potential customers. Let’s finish this year strong!

Broadway

Hello Team,

Hello everyone Broadway is at it again cleaning and readying the store for the holiday season. We have been going through the store and moving and cleaning everything. The staff is very excited about Halloween coming up and wanting to dress up for the customers. eBay has been a huge focus for us to try and get rid of inventory and get the cash back into the stores. Still looking for new staff members for all the stores and interviewing as many potential new hires as we can. Well, it’s time to get back to work and make that money have a great day.

October Celebration Days

• October 4 marks the start of Yom Kippur, at sundown.

• October 9 is Leif Eriksson Day.

• October 10 is a busy day, with three holidays packed into it:

• Canadian Thanksgiving. This holiday shares many similarities with its American equivalent. However, there are a number of things that set the Canadian Thanksgiving apart!

• Columbus Day (U.S.), a federal holiday, is observed on the second Monday in October. It was on October 12, 1492, that Christopher Columbus landed on a small island in the Bahamas, convinced that he had reached Asia.

• Indigenous Peoples’ Day (U.S.) a holiday that celebrates the history and cultures of indigenous peoples native to what is today the United States. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is celebrated in cities and states across the country, often alongside or in lieu of Columbus Day.

• October 18 is St. Luke’s Little Summer. This is a date steeped in folklore. Traditionally, around Saint Luke’s feast day, there is a period brief period of calm, dry weather.

• October 24 is United Nations Day, which aims to bring awareness to the work of the United Nations across the world.

• October 31 is Halloween (All Hallows’ Eve)! Do you know the true history of Halloween? It’s not as frightful as you might think.

October… Just for Fun. Strange Days, indeed!

• Oct. 4: International Ships-in-Bottles Day

• Oct. 6: National Noodle Day

• Oct. 12: National Fossil Day

• Oct: 24–Nov. 11: World Origami Days

• Oct. 28: Frankenstein Day

October Astronomy

Hunters Moon. October’s full Moon reaches its peak on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

Why Is It Called the Hunter’s Moon?

It is believed that this full Moon came to be called the full Hunter’s Moon because it signaled the time to go hunting in preparation for the cold winter ahead. Animals are beginning to fatten up ahead of winter, and sincethe farmers had recentlycleaned out theirfields underthe Harvest Moon, hunters could easily see the deer and other animals that had come out to root through the remaining scraps (as well as the foxes and wolves that had come out to prey on them).

The earliest use of the term “Hunter’s Moon,” cited in the Oxford English Dictionary, is from 1710. Some sources suggest that other names for the Hunter’s Moon are the Sanguine or Blood Moon, either associated with the blood from hunting or the color of the changing autumn leaves.

Tuscan Farro Soup

This Tuscan farro soup is hearty, healthy, and the perfect cozy and comforting soup to warm you up this winter. Farro, cannellini beans, and kale pack in the protein, making it a satisfying plant-based meal perfect for cold days!

Ingredients

Extra virgin olive oil: This is my go-to healthy cooking oil for sauteing vegetables. Onion & garlic cloves. Carrots & celery: To build the perfect base for this soup. Potatoes: Use waxy, boiling potatoes like red or white as they hold up well in hearty soups.

Cannellini beans: Aka, white kidney beans are a great way to boost fiber and protein in soups. If you can’t find cannellini beans, great Northern beans are very similar. Tomato sauce. Vegetable broth Cavalo Nero: (or black cabbage) has thick, very dark green leaves that will hold up in the hot soup. If you can’t find black kale, curly kale, or any other greens will be just as delicious.

Fresh parsley. Salt and pepper. A word about “Farro” Farro refers to any of the three nutrient-dense whole grains, including einkorn, emmer, and spelt. This ancient grain has a nutty taste and chewy texture similar to brown rice and bulgar and is a much healthier alternative to refined grains. Pearled farro is the most common type as the husk and bran are removed, so it has fewer nutrients, but it’s more convenient as it takes around 15 to 20 minutes to cook. You can get this from Trader Joe’s to make this recipe super quick. It’s pre-cooked and then dried, so it takes no time to cook. So good, and it cuts cooking time to under 30 minutes!

DID YOU KNOW?

October comes from the Latin word octo which means eight. In ancient Rome, October was the eighth month of the year. When the Gregorian calendar was adopted, it became the tenth month of the year but it has retained its original name. The birthstones for October are opal and tourmaline

October 25…Partial Solar Eclipse

October ends as we move into another phase of eclipses; in this case, it begins with a solar eclipse (and no preceding lunar eclipse) on October 25th.

The partial eclipse will be visible to viewers in eastern Greenland, Iceland, northern and eastern Africa, the whole of the Middle East, almost all of Europe (sorry, Portugal!), Central Asia, eastern Russia, and India.

It’s a hugely populated area of the planet within the path of this eclipse, though the greatest percentage of coverage anyone will see is about 40%. If you live in this region, be sure to use your eclipse-viewing glasses to protect your eyes.

Poem of the Month

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow mood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down to one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing if I should ever come back’

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence;

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I tool the one less traveled by, And that had made all the difference.
