REPORT CONCLUSION

Environmental Health and Safety is honored to serve LLUH. We seek to uphold each element of the LLUH mission, vision and values by ensuring a healthy environment, fostering a culture of safety, and addressing incidents as needed.

As the exterior of the new hospital is nearly complete, construction turns to finishing the interior –a task with its own complex safety issues. Our contractor, McCarthy, and our contracted safety representative from Barragan Safety have done a remarkable job in keeping the injury rate for our construction workers quite low. If we can maintain our strict adherence to safety requirements, LLUH will save quite a bit of money though the Owner Controlled Insurance Program that we are using.

Our critically important Workplace Violence Prevention Program is still relatively new. Healthcare has been mandated to create and manage plans and provide education to workers on this subject. Signage posted throughout our organization reflects our leadership’s serious and intentional response to this mandate, and EH&S is grateful for this. The signage is actually just a small piece of our Program, as we plan and work towards providing the safest possible environment for staff, patients and visitors.

EH&S, in conjunction with Patient Safety and Reliability, created the Safety Portal 360 –software that facilitates the detailed documentation of all of the plans required by The Joint Commission. The system is up and running; reports for Safety Committees are easily generated, and findings and corrective action plans are now easier to track.

In June, EH&S received the A-team award, which is bestowed quarterly on teams that display one or more of our values. Lock and Key presented it to us, noting the LLUH value of teamwork evidenced by EH&S.

As LLUH continues to change and grow, meeting the needs of a population that is both diverse and aging, our model for service will necessarily also continue to evolve. We will adapt as needed. We accept the challenge to work collaboratively with others, to meet the needs of those we serve, and to maintain or exceed regulatory requirements. And finally, we appreciate your support, and look forward with you to continued safety and success.
