THE ROYAL OAK “JUMBO” EXTRA-THIN OPENWORKED COMES BACK WITH A NEW CALIBRE AND A CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

wiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet introduces a brand new generation of Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin Openworked (ref. 16204) on the occasion of the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary.

Available in either stainless steel or 18-carat pink gold, this watch houses the Manufacture’s new dedicated selfwinding extra-thin openworked movement, Calibre 7124, as well as the Royal Oak’s “50-years” anniversary oscillating weight visible through the sapphire caseback. The watch’s highly contemporary design reflects the Manufacture’s ever-more creative reinterpretation of age-old techniques attuned to the Royal Oak’s uncompromising spirit.

CALIBRE 7124 MICROMECHANICS AND HANDIWORK The two new timepieces premiere Calibre 7124, the openworked derivative of the Manufacture’s extra-thin selfwinding movement, Calibre 7121, which powers the newly released 16202 references. Both calibres were developed in parallel, which means that the position and geometries of the different components equipping both movements have been meticulously conceived from the start to obtain a harmonious and well-balanced openworked version.

Making no compromise, Calibre 7124 brings together precision, performance, age-old openworking expertise and extra-thinness. Measuring a mere 2.7 mm in height, this extra-thin selfwinding openworked hour and minute movement contains more energy than its predecessor Calibre 5122 (3.05 mm), thanks to its larger barrel. Like Calibre 7121, Calibre 7124 is equipped with a contemporary slim oscillating weight mounted on ball bearings that utilises two reversersdeveloped in-house to ensure bidirectional winding. In addition, its balance wheel is

fitted with inertia blocks that have been directly inserted within the balance wheel to avoid unnecessary friction.

Its openworked architecture requires artisans’ manual dexterity and attention to detail. Introduced at Audemars Piguet in the 1930s, the art of openworking consists of removing as much material as possible from the movement bridges and plate without impairing its functions. Light passes through, revealing the mechanism’s finesse and purity. The preliminary geometries of the mainplate and bridges are cut through computer numerical control (CNC) machining, before being perfected by electric discharge machining (EDM). This manufacturing process enables to remove small amounts of material with extreme precision to reach the desired shape. Each component is then finished and decorated with age-old techniques. The polished V angles that can be admired on both sides of the watch reflect the meticulous handiwork that went into their realisation as this level of craftsmanship can only be done by hand.

PANDORA’S STORE RE-OPENS WITH A BRAND NEW CONCEPT AT LAGOONA MALL

andora, the renowned jewellery brand, has re-opened its store at Lagoona Mall with new and astonishing decor that provides customers with an enhanced and unique shopping experience.

Attended by VIP customers, social media influencers, and members of the press, the opening ceremony was held on March 15, 2022. Following the official ribbon cutting, customers were welcomed to the newly designed store and introduced to the latest collections of the brand. They had the opportunity to live a truly intuitive and playful experience and were encouraged to touch and feel the products to learn more about the craftsmanship of the hand-finished jewellery.

Covering an area of 54sqm, the store’s new design follows Pandora’s Evolution Design concept, which features a charm counter where customers can mix and match bracelets, charms, and a treasure table showcasing new items and bestsellers.

The new concept also changes everything from color choices including the Pandora Pink as the main shade to lighting to interior design and focuses on creating a welcoming and interactive environment. The relaunch also introduced a redesigned logo, visual identity, products and collaborations.

Today, Pandora displays the latest creations including the most recent collection, MARVEL x Pandora, that was specially created for all MARVEL fans. The collection is inspired by the popular characters from the MARVEL Universe and includes charms that portray MARVEL personalities.

Chief Executive Joanne Milner joined Garrard in February 2016, launching a period of regeneration and renewal for the House.

In this month of friendship and generosity, our homes are shining brightly with lights to welcome visitors. Our grandmothers’ hands are adorned with henna, telling us about the beauty and the uniqueness of those times.

Muna Al Kaabi, the creative director and founder of Moonlight Concept, wanted to create a special vision for this collection by blending the past with the present.

The designs for Nostalgia 2022 were inspired by the lanterns’ colours and inscriptions of our ancient heritage.

Muna was inspired to make the designs unique, distinctive and original as usual.

To compliment Muna Al Kaabi’s vision for this collection, special fabrics such as soft and comfortable mesh are used along with the luxurious silk. To complement the traditional yet innovative looks, Jacquard is also used with certain floral and geometric patterns.

As we talk about tradition, hand embroidery is the first thing that comes to mind. To this end, most of the designs featured handcrafted Moroccan, Zari and Zardosi embroidery that is added subtly on the shoulders, cuffs and front.

The joyous and classy aspect of this collection is expressed by using special gradations of green, blue, pink, and beige.

We are delivering results through our talented people and as a team, therefore having the skills to inspire, motivate and keep everyone engaged is a critical competent. As a leader, I need to review our performance continuously and identify areas of improvement and innovations that will enhance the experience of our guests, colleagues and returns for our owners. As they say “excellence is not a destination; it is a continuous journey that never ends”, and this is very true in the wonderful world of a hospitality leader.

As they say, “alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”, therefore building a highly engaged team is of paramount importance.

First and foremost, a good work attitude in the people that I recruit is fundamental and I therefore put a lot of emphasis on identifying talented colleagues with great attitudes, during our recruitment process. I value and build teams that are diverse, empowered and agile, as this increases innovation, engagement levels and overall business performance. We have clearly defined objectives that are set for the year and these are used as tools to evaluate individual and team’s performance. However, in hospitality, our guests evaluate us constantly and I am therefore always monitoring guest feedbacks via the various digital platforms.

6. Exciting times ahead for the Alwadi MGallery Doha hotel with the world cup around the corner?

To be joining the Alwadi Hotel MGallery at this critical time, with the FIFA World Cup 2022 just a few months away, is an immense honour and privilege. It will be a very exciting period and like everyone in Qatar, we are firmly focused on playing a key role in ensuring a successful World Cup. We are ready and looking forward to welcome the world!

7. Wh a t i s yo u r vision for the future of the hotel?

Alwadi Doha hotel, which is part of Accor, is deeply committed to sustainable value creation, and we will be playing an active role in giving back to the planet and community. As a hotel, I am firmly focused on becoming more sustainable and therefore I have clearly defined actions geared towards eliminating the use of single use plastics, recycling, and reducing waste across the property – this is a key focus of mine throughout 2021 and beyond.

Technology is fast changing and we are always looking for ways to further improve the guest experience by adopting the latest and best innovations. We are always on the lookout for ways to improve, and we have many planned investments in order to enhance the experience across our facilities.

Tell us about the story behind Shirvan Métisse Doha?

hrough the history of the Silk Road, which blends Persian, Arab and Indian influences, I imagined a cui¬sine based on sharing, flavored with spices, in a place that invites both el¬egance and travel. Indeed, I highlight the heritage of this road by bringing to-gether, in the same place, the diversity of its regions. I was inspired during a trip in Azerbaijan 6 years ago. I discovered so many flavors and dishes that I wanted to share this treasure.

What was your inspiration to become a chef?

I have been particularly sensitive to the taste and pleasure of cooking since I was very young.

The approach taken by the Ferrari Styling Centre for the Roma’s exterior centres around clean design and absolute symbiosis between its various elements with harmonious proportions and pure, elegant volumes. The car is clothed in long, ultrasleek lines that sweep back from the front bonnet, highlighting the spare silhouette of the flanks and the compact, set-back fastback cabin volume. To underscore that formal minimalism, all superfluous detailing has been removed: for example, radiator

cooling is guaranteed by a monolithic surface that is perforated only where necessary, creating a new radiator grille concept. The full-LED adaptive headlights are traversed by a horizontal light strip that hints at the structure beneath the car’s skin, bringing a sense of tension to the entire circumference of the car. The wraparound rear screen incorporates an active aero device to preserve that signature purity of form, while the twin taillight assembly is set like a gem into the volume.

For the Ferrari Roma’s cabin, the Ferrari Styling Centre designers developed a new formal approach that involved the creation of two separate cells, one each for driver and passenger, in an evolution of the dual cockpit concept that embraces the entire cabin rather than just the dashboard as was previously the case. The crafting of the interior took its lead from the complete redesign of the HMI. This resulted in a major leap forward, starting with the new steering wheel designed using the “Eyes on the road, hands on the wheel” philosophy with all the car’s main commands actioned by haptic controls, ensuring the driver doesn’t

have to move their hands from the wheel.

The 16” digital instrument cluster provides all the necessary information, while the central display with an 8.4” vertical screen and a new passenger display are exceptionally intuitive and user-friendly. The new Ferrari key with “Comfort Access” function allows the driver to open the car by touching a button next to the new flush handle in the door. Lastly, the Matrix LED headlights and optional Ferrari advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive Cruise Control, make dayto-day and longer journeys a very relaxing experience.

It all began 75 years ago with the Maserati A6 1500, a model with a revolutionary spirit, the forerunner of a class of car that had never been seen before. It would go on to influence the automotive landscape all over the world, and successive generations of Maserati road cars.

n March 1947, the Geneva Motor Show witnessed the launch of the first Gran Turismo in history: the Tipo A6 (taking its name from the project), better known as the A6 1500 Gran Turismo.

Accorded an enthusiastic welcome by professionals and the public, the Tipo A6 represented the first step in a story in which Maserati has revamped the technology and design. The brand has held true to its hallmarks of elegance and high performance, ubiquitous in every model in the range and continuing in the next generation of the GranTurismo, the Trident brand’s first 100% electric car, due to be launched onto the market in 2023.

Resounding compliments and awards quickly led to the decision to give the green light to production, albeit with certain changes from the prototype. These included the restoration of more conventional lights, framed in chrome plating. The Extra Lusso version also featured a new, more modern grille and larger side windows.

Production of the A6 1500 Gran Turismo continued until 1950, with a cosmetic update taking place in 1948.

Pininfarina would also make further changes to the bodywork: the embossed trim was removed from the front fenders, and two rear seats were added to the The history of the A6 1500 dates back to even earlier than 1947.

It actually goes all the way back to 1941 and the design of a sedan with a fixed head engine and twin camshaft, which had to be a close descendant of the 6CM’s, if of course revisited with Gran Turismo in mind. The upshot was an outstanding engine with a maximum output of 65 hp, with its single Weber 36DCR carburettor giving the car a top speed of 150 km/h.

The project was named A6, A for ‘Alfieri’, 6 for the number of cylinders.

It also featured independent wheel front suspension, with oscillating trapeziums and coil springs, rigid beam with leaf springs in the rear, hydraulically controlled brakes and disc wheels (spoked on request), with a 3.5” channel, 16” in diameter, and 5.50-16 tyres.

At that point, the brand began to establish itself as a producer of tailor-made, high-quality road cars, with sport in its DNA. Intended for the Geneva Motor Show, the first model was produced in February 1947 by the Pininfarina bodyshop, bearing its characteristic mechanically operated retractable inside headlights. However, the clearest innovation from the past was its tubular chassis with circular crosssection components, to adopt some of the most fashionable trends at the time.

Not only was it the retractable headlights and chassis that would attract the attention of the public in Geneva, but also the plexiglass sunroof and a bonnet that could be raised from both sides or removed.
