The Lloydminster Catholic School Division (LCSD) was beaming on Tuesday morning as Holy Rosary High School (HRHS) student, Favour Anokwute, was celebrated.

Anokwute, a Grade 10 student at HRHS, recently found out she had been selected as a member of the Government of Saskatchewan’s 2022-23 Youth Council, and the school appropriately applauded her success. “I was quite shocked,” she said in regards to finding out she was selected. “It feels really good being able to make that positive impact on the school’s education and being that voice.” Anokwute explained her spot on this year’s provincial
Youth Council has been a year in the making after Vince Orieux, former principal at HRHS, approached her about the opportunity last year. “He came up to me during class, gave me the form, and asked me to represent Holy Rosary on the Youth Council; I was happy to take it,” she said. As a member of the S askatc he w an Yo uth Council, Anokwute will attend regular meetings and have the opportunity throughout her term to provide advice and insights on education policies, curriculum, and programs or priorities in response to requests made by the office of the Sask Minister of Education, Dustin Duncan. “She will be working with the education minister and his staff an d sh e ’ ll b e ab le to bring the student voice to the provincial government and help other students in the province to make sure their voice is heard, and they can be a part of the planning for next year,” said HRHS’ principal Jeremy Blais. “Favour is a tremendous candidate from Holy Rosary. our school for all of her classmates and fellow students. “She works both with students and staff to make Holy Rosary a really special place and we’re really proud of her.” LCSD Director of Education, Nigel McCarthy, knows first-
hand how dedicated Anokwute is to making her school a better place, and hopes her fellow students will follow suit. “It’s amazing for a school like this to be able to reach out across the province and share stories of success, but also examples of suc-
cess, like Favour,” he said. “This will be our second student that’s been brought in by the minister of education to advise on the future of education, so we’re very excited to have the voice of the school continue to be heard at the provincial level.”
