Last year, the provincewide Step ’n Stride campaign raised nearly $400,000, including about $17,000 in Lloydminster. Corbett noted that local fundraising totals exceeded last year’s figures, with every dollar raised in the city remaining local to fund free support groups, active physical fitness sessions and cognitive and speech programs. Participants chose between 1K and 3K routes around the park, supported by local businesses including Domino’s, Cobs Bread, Wellings and Medicare Lloydminster. “What we find in small towns like Lloyd is they’re very tight-knit,” Corbett said. “The community really steps up to always help.”

Thank you, Lloyd emergency crews

Sometimes it takes a major emergency to remind us just how much we rely on the people who run toward danger while the rest of us are told to stay back. The Sept. 21 fire at Inland Steel was one of those moments. Crews were called to the blaze around 3 p.m. and battled the fire for more than 12 hours before it was declared out early Sept. 22. Nine departments responded, with more than a dozen fire apparatus eventually working at the scene. For the firefighters, RCMP, EMS, dispatchers and other emergency personnel involved, it was a long and demanding job that required teamwork and dedication. So, this week, I think Lloydminster and the surrounding communities owe them a simple but important thank you. Thank you for answering the call. Thank you for working through the night. And, most importantly, thank you for putting the safety of others before your own. Our emergency crews deserve our appreciation every day, but incidents like this remind us why.

Carbon capture and storage is a proven technology that helps create jobs. It’s been successfully operating in Canada for years. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is in use around the world, and several projects have been safely operating in Canada for years. To date, millions of tonnes of CO2 have been permanently stored in geological formations in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Building the proposed Pathways Project will generate significant benefits to the local economy while creating thousands of jobs in Northeastern Alberta during construction. Once operational, the Pathways Project will enable further reductions in emissions intensity (emissions per barrel) from oil sands production and unlock oil sands growth. This helps move our industry forward.
