WELCOME REMARKS

Welcome Laity, Clergy, Visitors, and Guests to the Southern California Fabulous Lay Extravaganza and Fashion Show. This is our annual event that provides funds for our Scholarships. We are strong believers in investing in the life of our young people and your donations make it possible for us to award scholarships to deserving young people, four of whom you will hear from later in the program. If you are visiting from another Conference or District, please put your name in the Chat so we can acknowledge you.

Linda Smith President, Southern California Conference Lay Organization

Although we are virtual for our annual Lay Extravaganza, initially we had planned to be in-person. We are going to do things differently, yet it will be fun. We have also reserved 30 minutes for Social Networking at the conclusion of the program, so do not leave – stay and chat with me and friends. Our Committee Chair and Mistress of Ceremonies for this event is Dr. Verda Bradley, someone who has done a yeoman’s job!! The program was designed for you to relax in the luxury of your home to enjoy a fabulous Extravaganza.

Dr. Verda Bradley Event Chair

I t was an honor and pleasure to chair the 2022 Lay Extravaganza and Fashion Show. I want to recognize the dedication of the planning committee who were there to assist and guide the work with creative imagination. Thank you to the participants and models who used their charm and charisma to transform the mundane to extraordinary. And to our wonderful audience who used their wit and wisdom to constantly place positive and interactive comments in the chat. My heart is filled with gratitude to our illustrious president, Ms. Linda Smith who thought it not robbery to think big and do a new thing. God has spoken. Do not dwell on the past. And for the God who created the universe from nothing, nothing is impossible. “I will do a new thing” Isaiah 43,19 Blessings to all – It is time to Soar.

He was a quiet, friendly articulate man who was well respected by the Lay Organization and his church family. His last acts of service were to pin the annual “State of the Lay Organization” report which he presented during the Lay Conventions. This is what the LORD says – he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, 17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: 18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:16-19 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
