practices/Games It’s registration time for the 16th season of Lakeside Lutheran Youth Football! It’s been a tremendously successful program for us and we’d like to see it continue to grow. We hope to see all of our 5th, 6th and 7th graders back from last year’s teams, as well as many newcomers. We certainly believe that the benefits of the program are being seen in the play of individual athletes as well as in the success of our high school teams.

purpose This program gives our area grade school athletes a possible three or four years of tackle football experience prior to high school. It exists to teach players the basic skills of tackle football, teamwork and good sportsmanship, under the guidance of Christian coaches.

eligibility All boys, who will be entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the fall of 2015 and are members of our area Lutheran congregations, are eligible to play. This program gives these athletes the opportunity to experience football with fellow Christians.

Practices are held on Lakeside athletic fields. Home games are played at Lakeside. We use the varsity game field unless weather forces the use of a practice field. Practices begin Monday August 3, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. and run every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday leading up to the first game on Saturday, August 22. Thereafter, practices are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5–7 p.m. Games are usually on Saturdays. The season includes 7 games, with the last game scheduled for October 3, 2015. A definitive game and practice schedule is set by the time we mail out forms to registered players in spring.

safety Participants are required to have an up-to-date physical (within the last two years). Each player is equipped with quality equipment from Riddell. Prospective coaches receive instruction from Lakeside football staff. Sleds, dummies and other appropriate equipment are provided by Lakeside. The Lakeside Lutheran High School athletic trainer is present at all games.

Registration is $115.00 per player, payable to Lakeside Lutheran High School on or before February 27, 2015. As a reminder, the weekend of our Elementary School Basketball Tournament is a great time to submit your registration. If you plan to attend this tournament, turn in your football registration to a Lakeside staffer at any time during the weekend here on campus. The fee includes a free t-shirt for the players. Please register as early as possible, or e-mail pbauer@llhs.org to let us know of your plans to register or your decision status. We are always anxious to see 20-plus boys signed up for each of the three levels in order to plan. In recent years we have had to open the 6th grade program up to 5th graders in order to field a team. We prefer not to, but if it’s again necessary, we would like to know as far in advance as possible. A $140 late registration fee per player may be submitted after this cutoff date. Please also keep in mind there are opportunities for parent involvement on game days, such as being a part of the chain gang. We ask that you consider helping out so that home games can run as smoothly as possible.

divisions and conference play Assuming the numbers are sufficient, we field separate 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams. We are members of the Dane and Jefferson County Youth Football League and compete against teams from Jefferson, Lake Mills, Deerfield, Cambridge, Waterloo, Marshall, Columbus and Whitewater.

registration fees

After you register, we mail out four forms, including a physical form. They all need to be complete and submitted before equipment is issued. You are encouraged to register online! Go to llhs.org/activities/grade_school_events.html#YFB 2014 Varsity Warriors, photo by Scott Anthon
