In national news: Muhammad cartoon contest shooting in Texas staff reporter
Justin Nagy
The international world was rocked this week when two gunmen opened fire at a Dallas convention. The gunmen went to the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, a suburb of the Texan capital, in order to kill those present at the Muhamad Art Exhibit. The Sunday event included a competition for the best cartoon depiction of the prophet Muhammad which is against the tenements of the religion. The gunmen shot and injured a security officer. Police arrived on the scene and shot both of the body armor clad terrorists. The perpetrators were later identified as Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, Simpson had been charged with false claims about international and domestic terrorism in 2011. Simpson also posted tweets prior to the attacks that hinted it was to come. One such tweet said #TexasAttack. The international terrorist organization self proclaimed as the Islamic State has taken responsibility for the attack though authority figures are still looking to see if their claims are legitimate. The organizers of the event were the American Freedom Defense Initiative, which is run by controversial blogger Pamela Geller. She made sure the grounds were tightly secured for the event. The controversial exhibition was being attended by many outspoken critics of Islam in the west such as keynote speaker Dutch politician Geert Wilders. Geller has been a staunch anti Islamist since 2005 when she protested the building of a muslim community near the site of 9/11 on her blog. The event was attended by around 200 people, the only two killed were the gunmen themselves.

Lasting memories G at May Banquet staff reporter
Estrella Tesch
This Saturday student’s enjoyed a night full of dancing, music, friends, and laughter at the 2015 May Banquet. The banquet was themed after The 1920’s Great Gatsby. The Gatsby’s lavish parties and expensive attire made a perfect theme for this year’s May Banquet. The old gym was lit and decorated with a 1920s style of decor and everyone was dressed to the nines.

Seniors, escorted by their dates, were presented during the Grand March on the stage. Prom Court was introduced last, and with a three way tie King and Queen were still unknown. After a second vote the class of 2015 elected Jake March and Hannah Varney as the 2015 May Banquet King and Queen. After the Grand March the students entered the new gym for the entertainment. As in years past senior guys provided us with an hour of laughter during the Mr. Lakeside contest. The contestants competed in three categories, the catwalk, a talent portion, and storytelling. They were judged by Mr. Pufahl, Mr. Rosenau, and the student teacher Mr. Nofftz. All of the contestants brought their best to the stage, Mitchell Christianson even got the teachers involved with his Star Wars themed talent. Of course only one could come out on top, and that one was Sam Schulz. He wowed the crowd with his Napoleon Dynamite dance, and he humored us

In the old gym on Wednesday night, the Academic awards were held. This is very much like the sports awards night held after the fall and winter sports season. Examples of awards handed out to students are new National Honors Society members, academic letters, and a plethora of scholarships to seniors. Some scholarships include the Agribusiness, local optimist clubs, and students pursuing medical careers. Another unique award is free Brewer game tickets given to students who display hard work
and dedication in the classroom. Varsity letters are given to members of yearbook and newspaper, as well as awards for Teens for Christ members. The Forensics team also awards their members and the amazing job they did at state. The Senior class also recognizes the top ten students, as well as the Valedictorians and Salutatorians. Those Seniors also receive their medals and tolls to wear on graduation day. This is a great way to recognize and honor the work of all students, and especially the countless hours put in for four straight year by the senior class. photo courtesy of Annah Dobson
Krystal Taylor, Caitlin Jurczyk, and Lillie Johnstone receive their academic letters and National Honor Society Certificates
all with his unfortunate corn dog story. After the entertainment the students returned to the old gym to dance the night away. In the words of the Gatsby himself, “A little party never killed nobody.”

Most citizens were sitting on the couch, watching tv, and poof it went dark. Everyone had no idea what was going on. For the most part, the whole town of Lake Mills was out of power, including Lakeside. It was Tuesday night that a tree fell across a three phase power line. This led to the town of Lake Mills without power for three hours. When the power went out it had shut down all of the computers at the Light and Water Plant in Lake Mills. Having these computers shut down was not allowing the water tower, on the east end of town by Brookstone, to run properly. The city workers believed that the computers had come back on Wednesday morning, but some came back to find out that all the functions to help the water leaving the water tower were not working properly. The water pressure and water had dropped significantly. The homes in Lake Mills were left with very low water pressure or no water at all. Due to the low pressure in the water, the DNR was not sure if anything got into the water to contaminate it. Because of this, there was a boil order sent out for people to boil the water before use and not to drink it.

Joy can make anything better. Everyone has made a prayer, may it be by themselves or in a group. The prayer doesn’t have to be an important one about stuff that may matter at the time. It can be a simple enough one just for some help on a daily problem someone might have. The best way to pray to God should be for others rather than yourself. When you pray about others, you are being selfless and caring to them. You have put them first in your life rather than your own desires. In all ways you should pray with a happy heart. Don’t pray because you have to or you were forced to. Do it because you want to, so you can do something with it. When praying to God, he doesn’t care who the prayer comes from. He cares only if you trust that he will provide for you. He knows that we trust he will answer our prayers the way he sees fit. Pray, praise, and give thanks.
