So that’ s whodunit! G Baltimore In national news:
riots editor-in-chief
Sydney Gronemeyer
The hot topic all over the world currently is the grave subject of the Baltimore riots. After the death of Freddie Gray, said to be due to police brutality and racism, citizens of Baltimore lashed out at the Baltimore Police Department. On Tuesday night, the entire city was in tumult. Rioters burned buildings, looted businesses, and beat bystanders. More than 20 police officers were injured; six of these injuries being serious. Around 20 businesses and 144 cars were burned. Groups of rioters roamed the city with crowbars, rocks, or any weapon they could find to attack police officers, patrol cars, and windows of businesses. One of the officers said that many gangs met and each decided to take down one officer immediately following Gray’s funeral. On April 24, hints of violence began to erupt. Maryland sent state troops to Baltimore and urged officers to stay home. An official, Ryan, said that crowds were “calling for immediate imprisonment” of the officers “without them ever receiving the due process that is the constitutional right of every citizen, including law enforcement officials.” The day after the riots, National Guard troops were stationed around Baltimore to attempt to maintain peace. Citizens swept up glass and debris from destroyed buildings. The governor of Maryland promised increased security to the city. Obama said that there was no excuse for the violent riots. “When individuals get crowbars and start opening doors to loot, they’re not protesting,” Obama said in response to a query at a White House news conference. “They’re not making a statement. They are stealing. When they burn down a building they are committing arson. And they are destroying and undermining businesses and opportunities in their own communities.” Trials of Freddie Gray’s death are said to continue, and National Guard troops along with 500 additional Maryland state troops will remain in Baltimore until the city is cleaned up and at peace.

Nothing lightens up the atmosphere like a tale of wealth, greed, murder, and flying digitalis. This year’s play Murder’s in the Heir was just that, and a big success. Also, for the first time, the play’s first act was performed to Lakeside students and faculty. The plot was in the classic style of a whodunit murder-mystery. Billionaire Simon Starkweather is on his death bed, and has brought the living members of his family and his staff together to hear his will. But it is the new will that has been announced thats anger the heirs, and leads to a murder that needs to be solved. However, there was a twist. At Intermission, the audience got
to cast a ballot for which character they thought was the murderer. The character with the most votes would then be revealed to be the murderer. This made each performance have a different ending, since a different character was picked each time. So, who did the audience think did it? Those who came to the dress rehearsal picked Miss Withers, the nurse, as the murderer. At Friday morning’s performance, the 6th graders and others watching the performance choose Jordan Starkweather as the murderer. At the Friday night performance, the audience picked Bensonhurst, the butler, as the murderer. On Saturday night, the audience choose Fiona Starkweather as the murderer. “We were impressed with those

May Banquet is coming up pretty quickly, and so is the end of the school year. May Banquet is on May 2, and the theme for this year is “The Great Gatsby”, which is about the roaring ‘20s. The doors officially open for the students at 5:30 pm. After everyone is in and settled, the dinner will be served, which will be around 6:15 p.m.. The dinner consists of either beef tips with noodles or chicken parmesan, along with
other sides and fix-ins. There will also be a huge dessert bar, which every student is looking forward to. At 7:15 p.m., the Grand March begins, and the May Banquet king and queen are announced. The “Mr. Lakeside” competition follows the Grand March at 8:00 p.m.. After the amazing food and fun entertainment, the dancing finally starts. The dance runs from 9 to 11:30 pm. This May Banquet is going to be a night to remember, especially for the seniors. So, have fun and be safe this May Banquet weekend.
who came to support the play, both evening shows were nearly sold out twice with a packed grade school performance on Friday afternoon.” said Pastor Clark Schultz, one of the directors of the play. “What was even more impressive is the way the talented cast embodied their characters and brought them to life in the performances.”

April 22, the A Cappella choir went to Waterloo High School to perform for the WSMA competition. The choir performed with all their might, the selections being Still, my Soul Be Still, This Child, and Pilgrim’s Hymn. Two out of the three judges ranked the choir with a first, while the third judge gave the choir a second, ripping them apart along the way. Later this week, the Swing Choir went to UW Whitewater to perform in the state level round of WSMA. Slaying the performances of It Takes Two and Save the World/ Don’t You Worry, Child, the choir knocked out the judge. The Swing Choir earned a First Ranking. The choirs have few performances left, and then the very successful choir season will be brought to a halt. Cheers to such a great campaign by the choirs and their director, Mr. Buege.

with God CREATION “For by him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created through Him and for Him.”
Colossians 1:16

When the word create comes up, whether it’s create a Google Docs or create an art project, it’s not a big deal. However, when the word create comes up in Religion class or in the Bible, it has a different meaning. God created all people to be perfect and in his likeness. We were originally perfect, but then Adam sinned and mankind became sinful. Now every person is complete in God’s sight because Jesus completed his work on the cross for all people. No one has any flaws or blemishes. Every sin anyone has ever made is gone. All people have been created for Him and to serve Him. The students at Lakeside should complete every assignment and every touchdown and everything else for His glory. Christ has completed all Christians in His name and brought them together. The family of believers is complete through Christ who created and made them.
