Forensics takes conference title

Students need to be careful of what they put on the internet, because it can come back and affect them in a big way. Hindus from India also have to watch about what they put on the internet, especially around Valentine’s Day. A Hindu extremist group called Hindu Mahasabha, is cracking down on Hindus who use the word “love” on or around Valentine’s Day. They are claiming that they will force marriage on anyone who uses the “L-word.” They will be on high alert, looking for people who show affection and forcing them to marry each other. The group will have lookouts throughout social media, looking for anyone who uses the “L-word.” The extremists will be on patrol not only on the internet, but in public too. They will also have spies looking for anyone who exchanges flowers, gifts, or shows a public display of affection. President Chandra Prakash Kaushik of the extremist group stated, “Display of love in the entire Valentine’s week is equivalent to not following Indian traditions. Anyone found displaying love on Facebook, Twitter or WhatsApp will be caught hold of.” He also stated that he has eight social-media teams looking out for any affectionate behavior online. Of course, the police do not accept this and are on the lookout for any extremists forcing couples to get married. They stated that whoever forces couples to get married will be in big legal trouble. Valentine’s is a day dedicated to the one someone cares about most. It is to be a day of joy and happiness, not of fear. That is why, legally, couples are able to show their affection and say the “L-word” without being forced to tie the knot.

Yet again, the Lakeside forensics team took the conference title. Last Monday, the team competed at Luther Prep and came out on top by ten points. Many Lakeside participants placed in the top three--ultimately leading towards winning the team championship. Every year, Prep is a close competitor to Lakeside, but for the past five years, Lakeside has come out on top. This year was one of the biggest gaps between first and second place. Taking first place in conference was Maddie McKenna, Caleb Strutz, Josiah Eaker, Josh Shoenfeld, Malachi Mortensen, and Charlie Pingel. Taking second place in conference was Sydney Gronemeyer, Emma Guld, Emily Raymond, David Wilson, and Lillie Johnstone. In third place was Rachel Fischer, Leah Fields, Jennifer Schubkegel, Becca Doering, Tina Kehl, and Maria Werre.

Grudges and fogiveness “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13 staff reporter
Lisa Seavart
Being naturally sinful, it is hard to forgive someone after they have done something offensive or wrong. People keep their emotions towards someone bottled up and sometimes their friendship doesn’t recover. It is not healthy to hold a grudge. It would make life easier to just let it go. Most of the time talking about the problem and letting emotions out can be a huge relief on a Christian’s life. God wants his children to love each other unconditionally. That includes still loving them after everything they’ve done. God gives many examples of unlimited forgiveness in the Bible. Forgiveness is part of the love that people should strive for. From now on, forgive everyone for anything as the Lord forgave his children.

Valentine’s dance coming up
staff reporter
Katelyn Wolf
After years of a hiatus, Lakeside is reviving its celebration of the Winter Carnival by having the winter dance on Saturday, Feb. 14th, from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM. The theme is an anti-Valentine’s Day dance with the style of dress being
a casual blackout. A blackout means casual clothing, like jeans and t-shirts, completely in the color black. The regular dress code and dancing rules still apply as with any dance. The style of music for the dance is Throwback. This means the most
current music will not be played, and the music will consist of most hits from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and possibly later. The Winter Dance is a great time for Lakeside students to get together have some fun in the cold wintertime.
