The recent shooting at Wisconsin Lutheran High School is a hot topic among many people. There are different versions of this story--some are true, while others are false. Following is the review of what the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had to say about it. There was a girls’ basketball game going on between Wisconsin Lutheran and West Bend East high schools. Two girls that had attended the game, one from each school, started an intense argument. The police said that the two girls were each escorted from the basketball game at different times, prior to the shooting incident. They then met in the parking lot and things began to get heated. They were each at their own cars, parked next to each other, and eventually one of the girls’ dads came out and fired a shot. The shot injured a fifteen year old boy and grazed a teacher’s toe. The police said that the boy was from neither of the schools. The police then identified the parent who shot the bullet, and began to look for him. A statement said by the president of WLHS was released that said, “Moving forward, we will review the safety policies regarding activities at school that are open to the public. To ensure the safety of our students is top priority. At WLHS, our core mission is vehemently opposed to violence, and we ask your prayers for our school in the days ahead as we work through this difficult situation.” This shooting could have a negative impact on the reputation of WLHS. It is a Lutheran high school, and now the non-religious are hearing about how a parent at a Christian school was shooting at people out of anger. Prayers are important for the high school. One can pray that this will not lead others away from the school, or more importantly, from God.

This year, with the encouragement of Mr. Rosenau, the National Honor Society has chosen Bethesda Lutheran Communities to be their service project. A “penny war” is occuring in order to raise money for this cause. Bethesda Lutheran Communities is a church-based group that strives to give both physically and mentally disabled people a chance to live full and normal lives. Last month, some of the members of NHS volunteered for Bethesda to help move their residents to new apartments. They also used a $500 grant for Thrivent Financial to buy some of the residents Christmas

Missionary trips are a good way to show your faith by giving back to the people that need help. People get to see who you really are and that making others happy makes you happy. Michelle Draeger, a fellow Lakeside Lutheran Senior, has made the

choice to go on a mission trip after she graduates. Michelle is planning to go to Africa for three weeks in the end of July. She is going to go to Mount Kilimanjaro, Rombo, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. This is just along the northeast border with Kenya. She is going there to help children in an orphanage. She has wanted to

corresponding class’ jug, or paper money into a different class’ jug to subtract from their total amount. The class with the highest amount of money at the end of two weeks will receive a small prize. The National Honor Society strongly feels that this is a great cause to give to, and encourage everyone to contribute. Surely everyone has some spare change lying around! Lakeside’s NHS also extends a “thank you” to Brian Conrad, owner of Sentry of Lake Mills, for generously donating the five water jugs to make this fundraiser possible. The group is excited to see what this fundraiser will bring.

Operation: Go begins staff reporter

Operation Go is a mission that Lakeside is doing that is supported by the WELS Kingdom Workers. For the last few weeks students who are age sixteen by the end of the school year have had the chance to fill out a volunteer application for this mission. The people who are going on this trip will be announced by the end of the week. This trip is a great way to spread the gospel message to those who have not yet heard this message and of Jesus’ saving grace. Students will be helping with canvassing, a vacation Bible school of all sorts and other things in the community that will be chosen. do something like this since grade school. She thought of the idea when other missionaries came saying what a wonderful opportunity it was for them to do it. So she wanted to have the chance to do that also. Michelle is excited for this opportunity and values everyone’s prayers that her trip might be successful.

Have you ever been stressed? Maybe it is when you have to take a test, or you are running later to work. There are so many times stress is present. Now, how you deal with that stress? Many try to find security in earthly things like money or friends. Do those really give lasting security? Money can always be used, and friends will move away to college, or will do something that takes away that trust. Just like that, that security is gone. So what gives lasting security? The Bible says on the last day this earth and all earthly things will go away. But what will remain? Jesus will remain. It says “I am the First and the Last.” Wow, he was here before the earth was created and he will be here after it as well. That would be something that would be trustworthy and comforting. So when stress invades your life. Look to escape to Jesus, because those problems are temporary, but Jesus is eternal.
