Wisconsin Governor election approaches

staff reporter

Caleb Strutz

Everyone is usualy well aware of upcoming presidential elections, but not everyone follows governor elections. These are extremely important since they deal with solely the state of Wisconsin. It is important for students to be aware of Wisconsin politics. Mary Burke, a member of the Madison school board, is challenging Scott Walker, the current governor of Wisconsin. The things on which they disagree the most about are issues involving the school system. Walker wants to expand enrollment in the current private school voucher program, which would provide lower income families with the option to enroll their children in schools which they could normally not afford. Burke, on the other hand, wants to repeal the entire 2-year-old program in the state of Wisconsin, with tax money going to longer running programs in Milwaukee and Racine. Walker also wants a two-year freeze on the tuition for the University of Wisconsin, in order to make it easier for more students to attend. While Burke actually says that the freeze would be reasonable, she also wants to increase the financial aid, broaden the tax deduction for tuition and fees, and allow students who are currently enrolled in the University of Wisconsin to refinance student loans and make payments easier. Burke also wants to increase the health care and and pensions of the public school teachers and other public workers, while Walker claims that Burke was negotiating with the public school teachers on a new contract, instead of allowing Act 10, which Walker set in place, to take its course. It is true that politicians will never get along, and disagree on everything, and here are just a few things that Walker and Burke disagree on. Elections begin on November 4.

So stressed out “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert, your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:7-8

staff reporter

Emma Groninger Most people have a huge problem with stress. They worry about whether they will meet all of the deadlines for work or school. They worry about how they look. They worry about what others will think of them. Is all of this worrying really necessary, though? Is it really going to help or make the situation better? God wants his children to come to him in times of stress, worry, and need. He will take care of his children when they ask for help. Worrying isn’t going to help anything. In fact, worrying will only make things worse. The devil wants God’s children to worry and hold all of their stress locked up inside of them, so that when they crack he will be right there to snatch them up and steal them from the protection of God’s arms. So next time stress or worry pops up, go to God and ask him for help right away. No need to wait.
