The meet last forensics meet went very well for the Lakeside forensics team this last Monday. This meet was different than all the previous meets because it didn’t have team scores. Everything was purely individual. The maximum entry limits for a team, according to the Wisconsin High School Forensic Association (WHSFA), are 25 entries. According the the WHSFA “Beginning at Subdistrict, a participant/entry must earn 16 or more points from two of the adjudicators in a three-round festival to advance to District. At District, a student must earn 20 or more points from two of the three adjudicators to advance to State.” This means that in order to make it to the District meet, a speaker would have to score higher than 16 points in two of the three rounds to advance. Then to continue on after District to State, that person would have to score higher than 20 points in two of the three rounds. The short forensics season is already starting to wrap up. In the upcoming weeks there is a Friends and Family Night where the forensics team performs their pieces for anyone who wants to see them. Then after that, there is the state tournament at UW Madison, where the forensics team will do their best to win.

This artist portrays the Sunday after Jesus died when he rose from the dead. It is a good reminder of how much Jesus loves us and sacrificed for us that day on the cross.

Lent is the period between Ash Wednesday and Easter. It is a common time for people to fast and give up stuff in their life. Catholics believe the forty day period that they call Lent, represents the forty days where Jesus was in the desert. They also believe that it is a time for believers to work on their spiritual lives. Friday is their day for fasting and self-denial. In Catholic religion, it is a must

that you follow Lent because it is a sacred tradition. While Lutherans believe that you can follow it, it is not necessarily a sacred tradition, nor is it required for them. Many Lutheran churches read sections of the Bible that focus on the passion of Christ during this time of the year and even have special lenten services. Most non-denominational churches don’t celebrate Lent at all. Just because different denominations don’t follow the

same traditions doesn’t mean that the person will go to hell because they don’t follow them. As long as you believe that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior and that he died on the cross for your sins then you will go to heaven. Lent is a time to reflect on what Jesus did for us before he ascended into heaven. So as this Lent season approaches, remember to thank Jesus for all that he did and sacrificed for us on the cross.

Strength is something we value as humans. We have competitions to see who has the most physical strength and we cheer for and respect and the people who win them. Even here at Lakeside we strive to get into the 500 club or keep our top spot in the bench press. We also value mental strength. We look up to the person who can get out of their own head during a bad game and make a big play, and envy the person who can make it through exam week without even breaking a sweat. Sometimes as humans we can’t find the mental strength to keep going, we think that life is just too hard. In those moments we have to count on the Lord to give us his strength. How great is it to have such a wonderful God!

St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church is located in Beaver Dam. St. Stephen’s has three pastors, Seth Dorn, Paul Stratman, and Philip Heyer. They all live in Beaver Dam. There are 11 students here at Lakeside that are members at St. Stephens. Most of them also went to St. Stephens grade school. Lent is starting and lent supper will begin being served at 5:15. There is also a teen trip this month. They are planning to go laser tagging on the March 18. There are also two mission presentations coming up. One on sharing our faith with neighbors and one on Nepal and Pakistan mission work.
