Many of students at Lakeside are aware of St. Paul’s church in Lake Mills, but I highly doubt any of them know that a church has been having its services in Lake Mills high school for the past 14 and a half years. This church is called Real Hope. Like most churches, Real Hope meets every week, but its building circumstances have been unique. It started out in the garage of a member’s house with a couple families sharing the same beliefs. Finally, after all those years they are getting a permanent church building in Lake Mills. The new church building will have rooms to house worship, offices, and classrooms. Since the church now has its own building, they will be able to do many ministries that they were unable to do due to building circumstances. These ministries will include weekly worship services, children’s church, bible studies, prayer groups, youth group gatherings, various community outreach projects, and much more.

When people here the three letters FFA together they almost alway come to the conclusion that they stand for Future Farmers of America. This is not the case. The FFA is a part of the Department of Education. In recent history, the FFA has become the National FFA Organization. This year National FFA Week runs from February 21 through the 28. In support of the this week, Lakeside’s FFA Chapter has planned several events to help the whole student body to get involved.

As of January, the Pub Room, also known as the newspaper and yearbook editing room, has gone through a major change. It now has countertops, cupboards for storage, and stools for seating ordered from Menards with the help of Twice is Nice. The construction of the upgrade to the Pub Room started last August and continued until late January. The shop class, Mr. Meske, and school janitors put many hours of work into perfecting the room. Before the upgrade the Pub room had only six used desks and fold-out tables. A former student also donated a printer to the room.

With the help of Twice Is Nice, shop students, and many more, the pub room was tranformed from a disorganized mess to a professional, comfortable work station.
This included trivia questions at lunch and a home-made breakfast for the entire faculty. If any students are even considering joining the FFA, let it be known to them that they do not have to live on a farm to join. The enrollment of the FFA members reaches from countryside all the way to the inner city. There are also many activities in which a person may get involved in the FFA from showing livestock at the local fairs, to public speaking, and other community projects. There is a place for everyone in the FFA. If there are any other questions about the FFA and what opportunities are available, one should not hesitate to ask Mr. Meske or one of the FFA officers.

Grand Event is a grand way to get volunteer hours, spend time with friends, and give back to your school. The theme this year is “Anchored in Faith.” The Grand Event happens only once a year. The event is a sponsorship for Lakeside to raise money. The money raised lowers the price for school tuition of the next year. The more people that show up to bid on items, the more Lakeside benefits. The items that people bid on are quite a variety. They can be as small as gift cards to shops to special trips or autographed memorabilia. Some of them can even be of use to you. In the past years, the cooks have made two things go for a very high price. They are a pass to the front of the line, and a second cookie on Cookie Monday. If those don’t sound too good you probably have cold lunch daily. The Grand Event is also a great way to get your service hours. The event is over five hours long, and if both shifts are done the hours can be even more. The time can be spent with friends, eating pizza in spare time. Students who have participated previously have had a ton of fun and often come back for more fun the next year.

Joyful prayers “In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” Phillipians 1:4 staff reporter
James Lang
Joy can make anything better. Everyone has made a prayer, may it be by themselves or in a group. The prayer doesn’t have to be an important one about stuff that may matter at the time. It can be a simple enough one just for some help on a daily problem someone might have. The best way to pray to God should be for others rather than yourself. When you pray about others, you are being selfless and caring to them. You have put them first in your life rather than your own desires. In all ways you should pray with a happy heart. Don’t pray because you have to or you were forced to. Do it because you want to, so you can do something with it. When praying to God, he doesn’t care who the prayer comes from. He cares only if you trust that he will provide for you. He knows that we trust he will answer our prayers the way he sees fit. Pray, praise, and give thanks.
