Michigan Lutheran Seminary for high school. When asked to choose her favorite subject in school Korth commented, “English! I’m an English major, so most things related to the subject fascinate me, especially literature.” Korth’s favorite part of Lakeside as compared to teaching at public schools is the Christian Environment. “I loved it [in the public schools], but I really found myself missing the Christian environment which is what I felt the moment I walked through Lakeside’s doors.” There are many things Korth looks forward to in the future. She definitely looks forward to a great experience at Lakeside, completing her portfolio for graduation, graduation and on August 1st Korth is getting married to a Lakeside alumnus, Austin Ziche. In her free time Korth loves to read and catch up on Netflix. She also loves spicy foods, coffee and tea. Finally Korth commented, “I’m clumsy! If you see me trip in the hallways, it’s okay to chuckle. Odds are I already will be.”

One might consider Kazakhstan’s cuisine to be of the “meat and potatoes” variety, if they did, in fact, use potatoes in their cooking on a regular basis. But, lack of spuds aside, Kazakh food is very simplistic, utilizing a variety of red meat, milk, and grain products for main dishes, and flavoring most dishes with fresh herbs and sliced onion. A Kazakh staple is Baursak, a kind of puffy bread most easily described as a hollow donut. This bread can be either sweet or savory, and is eaten with any or every meal.

Monday night the Lakeside forensics team traveled to DeForest High School to compete in the district meet. This was the last obstacle before the state tournament at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. All twenty five entries achieved the scores needed to advance to state. Scores of at least twenty out of twenty five points were needed. For the past four years, Lakeside won the Excellence in Speech Award, which is given to the top 3% of schools. Beginning in 2011, Lakeside has been the reigning Capitol Conference champions. Last year, Lakeside took second place out of 367 schools. To put this into perspective, when a sports team goes to a state tournament, there are usually less than 100 teams in the competition.

God never promised us that it would be easy to witness to others or even to live on this earth. Sure, not everyone has experienced such things as a debilitating sports injury, losing loved ones, or being persecuted for our faith, but we all have our share of problems. As sinful human beings, we tend to blame these troubles on other people or even God. Usually when something terrible happens like the explosion in Texas or the bombs at the Boston Marathon, people ask why. Why God could ever let anything like that happen if he is a loving God. But He always has a plan for everything. Bad experiences can be used to help others who are going through similar hard times or who are suffering along with us. They also can bring opportunities to witness our faith to unbelievers, as God wants all people to be saved.
