Isaiah 40:30-31 “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and now grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” High school is the best four years of life. High school is the worst four years of life. Which of these statements is more believable? As a freshman or a sophomore, the road ahead can seem long and dreary. Keeping up with grades, sports, friends, family, and church can seem like a nearly impossible task at times. It can be easy for a teen to lose all self-confidence. A teen can begin to lose hope of all ambitions he or she once had. God says that everyone gets tired and everyone will fall, but this is okay. If hope remains in the LORD, everyone will have everlasting energy. There will never be a need to give up if trust is in God.
Teens for Christ recently completed a drive collecting underwear, socks, school supplies and other donations for children in Haitian orphanages. Over 1,224 pairs of underwear, 630 pairs of socks, 58 boxes of crayons and 38 boxes of markers were donated. To raise money Teens for Christ also sold donuts, hot cider, and baked goods during the week. photo courtesy of Kimara Winters

Exploring local cuisine
Many students staying after for a football game or basketball game often stop to eat before the big game. With all the choices in Lake Mills, it can be hard to choose just one. Here are highlights of some of the delicious and best local eateries in town. Carp’s Landing Price Rating*: $$ The first of these five local restaurants is Carps Landing. Carps Landing is located only a few blocks from Lakeside, making it a great spot to eat before or after a game, or whenever you might be in the mood for a great Friday Night Fish Fry. Prices range from $5.00 burgers to $20.00 steaks. El Mariachi Price Rating: $$$ Another classic Lake Mills restaurant is El Mariachi. El Mariachi specializes in Mexican cuisine, and also has surprisingly good seafood. The average cost per dish is $5.00 to $15.00.

Blue Moon Pizza Price Rating: $$$
Blue Moon, located just a few blocks from Lakeside on Main Street, is the perfect restaurant for any pizza or sandwich lover. Blue Moon’s pizzas are hard to beat, and its sandwiches are some of the best in Lake Mills. Ming’s Garden Price Rating: $$ There is even an option for those who are not in the mood for pizza. Ming’s Garden, a Chinese restaurant, which has some of the fastest service in Lake Mills. With a huge variety of Chinese food to choose from, and prices usually under $10.00, it’s hard to beat Ming’s. Timber Creek Price Rating: $ Timber Creek Pizza, is one last great place to eat out in Lake Mills. The name is deceiving, though, because Timber Creek serves a lot more than just pizza. It has possibly the best ice cream in the town, and amazing sandwiches. It can be hard to say no to Timber Creek. *Price rating based on high school student salary.

Polar vortices bring frigid temperatures staff reporter
Megan Moll
Although most people prefer to stay indoors during the winter, dangerous subzero temperatures in the United States kept even more Americans inside than usual. Temperatures that kept even polar bears and penguins inside last week were caused by what meteorologists call a “polar vortex.” The polar vortex occurred when a giant mass of arctic air from the North Pole descended over the United States. Polar vortices are nothing new in the U. S.; however, the last time these weather patterns were seen was in the 1990s, when numerous record lows were set across the country. The extreme cold, caused by the most recent polar vortex, resulted in over 31,000 flights canceled and thousands of school closings.
“Frostbite can develop on exposed skin in as little as five minutes.” Temperatures such as those experienced last week, which have not been seen since 1996, can be incredibly dangerous. Frostbite can develop on exposed skin in as little as five minutes and hypothermia usually sets in soon after.
