We hope it’s a weekend of exciting basketball, great sportsmanship and an opportunity for Christian fellowship. We are excited to be hosting this event and are anxious to be gracious hosts.You will see many Lakeside students, parents and coaches working the tournament this weekend. We have available brochures about Lakeside Lutheran, the Warrior Summer Sport Camps, the Youth Tackle Football program, the Prepside Mustang Summer Baseball program and Warrior Windmill Summer Softball. Recruiting? you bet! . . . for Christian Education

If you came to the tournament this weekend hoping so see your son or daughter approached by a Lakeside coach and encouraged to come to Lakeside because of his or her athletic ability, you’re going to go home disappointed. WIAA rules prohibit the recruitment of students for athletic reasons.

Does such recruitment of grade school athletes by high school coaches take place? Rumors say it does. Maybe some of you could tell stories. Such contact can be quite flattering and thus effective. After all, we see how exciting it is for our high school athletes (and their parents) when they get recruited by college coaches. There are several reasons why you won’t see it going on here at Lakeside: 1) It’s against WIAA rules.

2) Such violations would put your son’s or daughter’s eligibility at risk.

3) Such violations could warrant WIAA sanctions which might put at risk the ability of the rest of our students and teams to participate in WIAA sponsored events.

4) It would not be true to the mission of Lakeside Lutheran High School.

Make memories that last a lifetime! Each summer the Warrior Marching Band performs in 7-8 “local” parades (ranging from Appleton to Sun Prairie) and then alternates “long” and “short” trip years in early July. Ask any band or color guard member for some rave reviews, and ask Mr. Pufahl any questions you might have.

Some recent trips: Summer 2015 was a “short” trip year to the Traverse City (Michigan) Cherry Festival Summer 2014 was a 2-week tour of the East Coast and Niagara Falls, featuring marching in the 4th of July parade in Washington DC!

This awesome trip leaves July 2 and heads to the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore area, where we march in three Fourth of July parades and see the sights. We then head for Calgary in Alberta, where we march in an amazing parade before 250,000 spectators, and perform in the famous SaddleDome. Sights include some of the most beautiful moutains and lakes you will ever see in your lifetime, and the activities are a guaranteed blast.

About LLHS &

Wisconsin Parental Choice program (WPCP) Lakeside Lutheran High School has become part of the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP).

For students selected to the WPCP, families receive a voucher from the state that pays their tuition in full. The open application period for WPCP for 2016-17 runs February 1–April 20, 2016.

Students entering 9th grade in fall of 2016 and those transferring from a public high school at any grade level are eligible to apply for a voucher.

What does this mean for your family?

If your student is new to Lakeside and you have a need for financial aid, apply for both the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) (if you meet the income criteria of this state-run program) and for LLHS Financial Aid. See these criteria and find links to LL finaid under “Admissions” on www.llhs.org

Who gets picked for a voucher through WPCP? Lakeside has opened 50 voucher seats, broken down as 46 freshmen seats, two seats for sophomore transfers from public high schools, and one seat each for a junior and a senior transfer.

9th grade is considered an ‘entry point’ in the program. This means all incoming 9th graders who meet the income criteria are eligible to be picked. The cap for vouchers in the 2016-17 school year is 1% of a school district’s total enrollment (where the family resides, not the school’s location). Students are selected by random draw by the DPI. Students who receive a voucher to attend Lakeside will receive a voucher again in following years as long as they apply again and provide Lakeside with residency verification (income verification is NOT needed for those reapplying).

How does this program benefit Lakeside families?

“Choice programs are a positive for Wisconsin. Students are educated at a lower cost and access to more educational choices yields greater parent satisfaction and improved outcomes,” says Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt. In his Fond du Lac school system, providing vouchers to 41 low-income students meant taking away less than a third of 1% from the public district budget. The numbers would be similar in our area. Most importantly, “Choice” offers more of our LES parents the opportunity to provide Christcentered secondary education to their teens when they would have been otherwise severely financially challenged to afford it. More LLHS assistance is also made available to other families as a result.
