The season of fall is often defined by change. Cool winds replace the summer heat, leaves display their beautiful colors before falling gently to the ground.

The sun begins to retreat, allowing less and less light each day. Just as God planned seasons in nature, He has planned seasons in our spiritual lives as well.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. –Jeremiah 29:11 In God’s perfect design, He has planned seasons of fruitfulness and activity, seasons of quiet and rest. There will be seasons when He asks us to remain faithful to Him doing the same work day after day and there will be seasons of excitement and new beginnings. By God’s grace, we will enjoy seasons of harvesting the fruits of faithfulness. By God’s grace, we will overcome the cold winters of heartache and grief, for without winter, there would be no spring. Just as it is with the seasons of nature, these seasons in our spiritual lives work together to bring about God’s perfect will for each one of us. Even as seasons change, His design of change allows us to focus on the one thing that does not change – His Word.

The Legacy is published twice yearly by the Development Office of Lakeside Lutheran High School; content is intended for Annual Giving Society members.

Hello, Katie!

A new smile joined the Lakeside family this fall— specifically, a new face for a new position in the Development Office. “Coordinator of Alum Relations & Events” Katherine Martin is working with Scott and Bari on a part-time basis. She and her husband, Joshua, live in Jefferson where he serves as pastor at St. John. Katie and Josh have four children ages 3-18. They previously served in Texas and Germany.

Katie’s first event on the team came with our annual “Alum Zone” gathering as part of Homecoming festivities in late September. Here’s a big Shout Out to alum donors (THANK YOU!) who continue to value Christian education at LLHS~

Since graduating from MLC in May of 2002, I have wanted to teach and coach at the high school level.

I am grateful for the opportunity that has been placed before me here to discuss God’s Word, our common faith, and the assurance we have of eternal life through our Lord and Savior, Jesus. This opportunity is not only in the classroom, but also on the football field, in the stands cheering on all the many student athletes, and on the baseball diamond.

My own children are already excited as they think about one day becoming students at Lakeside where they will have the opportunity to learn, compete, and worship with others who have the same faith. What a wonderful blessing!

Phil joined the faculty in summer 2017. He teaches Religion and Math classes.

He was assistant JV2 Football coach and will head the Varsity Baseball team in spring.

In my 16th year of teaching, I am excited to be part of the Lakeside family. During the past six years, I enjoyed many of the Lakeside events while teaching at Eastside Lutheran in neighboring Madison. I always felt that the atmosphere was very positive and Christcentered in my past experiences with Lakeside students. This thought was confirmed during my first weeks on the Lakeside faculty with the overwhelming amount of respect I was shown by all the students.

Fellowship

Members of the Rho Fellowship, with the Lord’s guidance, have provided multiple gifts totaling less than $1,000 within the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. The Greek letters Rho and Chi form the symbol for Christ. This symbol, displayed in the center of our school seal, serves as a reminder that Christ is the center of our faith at Lakeside. Through this faith we return our blessings to continue His work.

When my oldest daughter, Sarah, was ready for Lakeside, my family lived on the west side of Madison, and Our Redeemer did not then belong to the Federation. Two years later, when my son, Peter, was also ready for high school, we made the decision to move to Lake Mills. Jason Nelson, Lakeside’s principal at the time, was looking for a way to re-open the library and I volunteered. Since I was already certified to be a K-12 librarian and had started and run a library at Our Redeemer Lutheran School for 8 ½ years, it just seemed like that is where God had been leading me all along. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Coming full circle back to Lakeside has been a huge blessing in my life. My three children also became Lakeside graduates. While the library has changed a great deal from when I was a sophomore, the Word of God taught at Lakeside has never changed.

I have seen how God had a plan for my life even when I was in high school. During my sophomore year at Lakeside, the library was moved from a room under the bleachers to its current room. During my study hall, I was one of the aides who helped check out and process books. Little did I know that someday I would be back at Lakeside as the librarian!

She and Jim are members at St. Paul, Lake Mills, while daughter Sarah (‘94) is a CPA in Milwaukee, married to Eric Whyte. Son Peter (‘96) is an engineer living in St. Charles, IL, with wife, Kathryn, and 2 boys. Meghan (‘99) is a graphic designer and mom to 2 boys and a girl with pastor husband, Paul Kuckhahn, serving St. John in Lewiston and Jehovah in Altura, MN.
