A Message from the Development Team Spring is a time known for new beginnings and growth. At Lakeside, we are able to witness God’s beauty—both inside and outside our campus walls. It’s also always a fitting description to the end of a 4-year journey for the seniors who are off to embark on a new path of life adventures. What joy, excitement and opportunity! May they continue to grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord. We wish them a lifetime of blessings and pray they stay on the path.

Shine Like

Stars

Mr. Steve Lauber led devotion at a recent Chapel assembly with these words:

For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. –1 Peter 2:25 He then shared a story from his youth where he left a wooded trail, while hunting, believing he could easily find his way back as he only went a short distance off the path. He was mistaken.

His message was filled with encouragement as well as warning, directed not only toward our seniors, but to us all. Our daily habits, including people we associate with and the choices we make, will directly affect our paths. Oftentimes we deny and justify the reasons for our wanderings. “When we wander off the path of righteousness, God knows it can be VERY dangerous for our spiritual life.”

After six hours of wandering during that hunting trip, Mr. Lauber was helped out of the woods by a fellow hunter. Can you imagine his relief when he saw the blaze orange figure before him? He was helped back to the main road where, to his great surprise, he discovered he was four miles off course!

Mr. Lauber wrapped his analogy for the teens with this thought, and it serves us all well: “Through God’s grace, Jesus is always there for us too—standing in his bright white robe of righteousness pleading for us to return...before we get too lost. May we always stay close to Jesus and the path he lays out for us...until we find our way out of this world and through the gates of heaven.”

On April 8, 2017, your Lakeside Lutheran hosted just shy of 300 guests, benefited from 75 volunteers and then watched you shine “like stars in the sky” as your generosity brought $108,000 in net proceeds for the ministry at LLHS, including funding toward a newer bus, student assistance, FACS kitchen labs, Operation GO, drama, athletics, STEM Club, the building and general operating funds!

Elliott Butler

Members of the Chi Fellowship, through the fruits of the Holy Spirit, have provided a single gift of less than$1,000 during the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. Being able to spend four years at Lakeside Lutheran High School has truly been a blessing. I know that sounds a little cliché, but when I say that I mean it. I have participated in numerous activities at Lakeside and looking back, I would do it all over again. There is a spirit within the walls of Lakeside—the feeling that everyone just wants to help anyone they can. I never wanted to say no and always took every opportunity to help others and myself. I was able to do this through National Honor Society, Student Council and Operation GO. All of these Lakeside programs have their roots in helping others.

Athletics were another thing I took pride in during my time at Lakeside. Being able to participate in football and baseball all four years, and basketball for two years really helped me put others before myself and develop and grow as a leader.

I could not have done most of what I’ve mentioned without the teachers and coaches at Lakeside. Each one of them is unique and has his or her own style, but each one of them is grounded in faith and not afraid to share that with us. Being able to glorify God in the classroom and on the field—like I said before—has been a TRUE blessing. I will use everything I have learned as I go off to Martin Luther College this fall to become a teacher and coach myself.

Elliott is an Academic Top Ten of the Lakeside Lutheran class of 2017, the son of Matt and Susan Butler, and a member at St. Matthew, Oconomowoc.

Rho

Fellowship

Members of the Rho Fellowship, with the Lord’s guidance, have provided multiple gifts totaling less than $1,000 within the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. The Greek letters Rho and Chi form the symbol for Christ. This symbol, displayed in the center of our school seal, serves as a reminder that Christ is the center of our faith at Lakeside. Through this faith we return our blessings to continue His work.

As a thank you for your gifts we offer you membership in the Rho Fellowship, a subscription to The Legacy, and also invite you to attend the fellowship events that have been planned for you.

Tina Kehl

Lakeside has been such a blessing to me in so many ways. My faith has grown through being a member of the A Cappella Choir, in which I was able to spread God’s Word and sing his praises my senior year. Playing in band increased my love for the Lord and his amazing gift of music. I especially enjoyed the summer marching band trips to St. Louis, the Calgary Stampede in Canada, the National Cherry Festival in Michigan, and touring in D.C. and several eastern states. Participating in Forensics helped me to improve my public speaking skills and prepared me for any opportunity that I may have to share my faith.

Lakeside’s Christian environment was incredibly uplifting, and during my time here I made loving friendships and had fun experiences which I will never forget. The teachers here truly care about their students on a personal level. Several faculty members, including Pastor Clark and Mr. Rosenau, encouraged me to enter into the ministry and use my talents and abilities to serve as a teacher. It is due to their support that I will be attending Martin Luther College this upcoming fall with the hopes of becoming an elementary teacher.

Tina is an Academic Top Ten of the Lakeside Lutheran class of 2017, the daughter of Paul and Kristine Kehl of Waterloo, and a member at Zion, Columbus.

Spring Reception Fellowship
