Some people find the Academic Awards Night long and boring. The speeches and the award-giving can lead to a very long night. Because of that, this year, Lakeside has decided to try a something new. Instead of extending the time of Academic Awards Night by including extra-curriculars, Lakeside will be handing out some of the extra-curricular awards during chapel. By doing this, the only things that will be presented on the actual night of the Academic Awards will be the academic related things and scholarships. All of the extra-curricular groups will be presented over a course of weeks after chapel. The leaders of the groups will let the members know when they are going to give out the awards so that the members can dress up. Parents will also be notified so they can come and see their children receive the awards if they wish. This should help shorten the Academic Awards Night.
The Lakeside difference editor
Sydney Gronemeyer
The most important difference between Lakeside and public school is religion teachings. Public schools cannot encourage or teach anything religious. They do not have prayers, devotions, or chapel services. Imagine how a public school would end their day. They have no prayer to end their day, no mention of the love of Jesus. They cannot use the Word of God to make or enforce rules. Lakeside uses God’s rules as their own, and applies it to all parts of the day. Every class talks about Jesus. Teachers use the Word to help students in all aspects of their life. Another thing that sets Lakeside apart is their care for the individual student. At most public schools, the students are seen as a whole instead of a group of individuals. Some teachers do not even know all of their student’s names. Since Lakeside’s attendance number is considerably smaller than most public schools, the students have a much more personal relationship with their teachers.

The forensics team swept the WHSFA State Tournament with every single member earning a first or second place award. editor-in-chief

For the past four years the forensics team has placed first in conference and traveled to the WHSFA State Meet, earning the prestigious Excellence in Speech Award which is given to schools who place in the top 5% at the state meet. The past two years Lakeside has placed second in the state meet out of around 350 schools. This year Lakeside once again advanced every participant on the team to state. The forensics team competed against 351 schools from all divisions at the state meet this year. Long-time rivals and competitors were there including Darlington, who placed above Lakeside the past two years. Mr. Lauber’s brother’s school, Shoreland Lutheran, also proved to be a top competitor. When the scores were tallied, Lakeside made forensics history.
The forensics team scored a monumental 91 points out of 100. Every student on the Lakeside forensics team scored a 23 out of 25 or higher. Sixteen students earned gold medals, while 9 students received silver medals. The forensics team placed first at the state meet, making the team the state champions. Coach Steve Lauber comments on this amazing achievment, “After finishing 2nd out of the 350 plus schools the last 2 years it was great to take that top spot this year. Whether it’s a gold, silver or bronze the rewards that come from just perfecting this skill will be used throughout their lifetimes.” He also commented, “Being able to speak in front of people is one of the best skills you can take with you out into the world. These kids will use what they have learned in forensics for the rest of their lives. They certainly are well prepared to tackle anything that comes their way.”
Junior editors take over the newspaper editor-in-chief
Jordan Gaal
Every year the Warrior Times Weekly must prepare the editors for the next year to come. This year’s senior year editors, Jordan Gaal and Nicole Italiano, will be passing on their duties to the four new editors, Sydney Gronemeyer, Adam Poyner, Winter Petry, and Ben Tweit. The task of editing this newspaper requires dedication, but is also
very rewarding. The new editors will start putting the paper together themselves next week, with the guidance of this year’s senior editors. The new editors will then continue creating the newspaper all of next school year until next year’s junior editors take over. The duties of newspaper editors include printing and folding the paper, editing the articles seen in the paper, designing the layout, and coordinating and assigning articles and photos.

Do you have people in your life that you down right just do not like? I know I do. I have plenty! Have you ever stopped and thought why you dislike this person? Maybe it was because they did something to ruin your reputation or they just hurt one of your friends. Do you think these feelings are right? They are certainly not. God does not tolerate any hate or “strongly disliking” a person. Just think back to when Jesus was on this earth. Did he ever disrespect anyone or treat anyone unfairly? No! He lived a perfect life so we could mess up and still have salvation. Jesus even went as far as loving his enemies just like they were his best friend. I have many friends and many enemies and I can’t even imagine what treating them the same would be like. The Lord say in Matthew 5:4344 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Here is some proof of what I was saying. God does not mess around. He takes things seriously. He does not want you to treat anyone in any wrong way. You must love and pray for your enemies. For example, on the news you hear of all these horrible murders and things. We can pray for the people that commit those crimes and hope that they repent of their sins. The next time you ever think of saying “I hate you” or “I hope you die and never come back” just remember what the Lord says in 1 John 3:15 “Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer and you know no murderer has eternal life in Him.” Love your enemies, trust God, repent and you will have eternal life waiting for you.
