Dear alumni and friends of Lakeside Lutheran,

It is an understatement to say that 2020 is an unusual year. COVID affects nearly every aspect of life. Virtual or blended learning is the norm for many. Social interaction is controlled by distancing and face coverings. There is considerable disagreement about effective ways to deal with COVID. This all points to the truth that we live in a world affected by sin. In spite of this turmoil, one thing remains constant for us: God’s love. Daily, we are reminded of his love through our very existence, our blessings, and—most of all—our forgiveness through Christ. In spite of all that is uncertain or changed in 2020, we rest in the assurance that God’s “compassions never fail. They are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23). Forever Warriors, this is the same message that you learned when you attended Lakeside. Outwardly, the school personnel, its facilities, and its activities may have changed. Yet, we still provide an excellent Christian education to encourage and equip our 427 students for lives of service on earth and for life eternal in heaven. Welcome back to campus for Homecoming 2020! God bless your stay with us.

let their lights shine. July expected to find our Warriors in Calgary. They were going to march—for the very first time ever—in Banff on Canada Day. Like so much else, these were not to be. To borrow ideas from an old saying, this year has made something very clear: you can take the band out of a parade, but you cannot take the parade out of the band. Even though their season was cancelled—in an effort led by senior Grace Seim and dad Steve—several of our Warrior marchers continued to use their God-given talents by playing for almost a dozen nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the summer. Next summer, we head to St. Louis as scheduled; however, we are adding Nashville. The tentative trip dates are June 27-July 5. Mark your calendars. God willing, the local schedule will continue as planned as well. In 2022, we change up the order of our trips by heading to Calgary to offer 2020 graduates the opportunity to go along as a “Super-Super Senior”. It is my hope that the class of 2020 will also join us this coming summer. So far this school year, Warrior Band has shown positive attitudes and a drive to succeed as we strive to have as much of a “normal” experience as possible without parades or Homecoming performances. Campus-area streets have been graced with parade sounds as new and veteran members fine-tune their stride. God has blessed us with beautiful weather to allow rehearsals to happen outdoors. Again, I cannot say enough about the Warrior Band, their flexibility and willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure their band experience continues. 2020, what a year. By the grace of God, we are here. We are moving forward. March Proud, Warriors! And in all things, TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
