Your steady Advantage ...focus on our unchanging Savior

What do you think? Does Mr. Lauber change? This pic is him in a statebound forensics team photo in May 2010, his third year of teaching at Lakeside. That's almost 15 years ago!

Changes

Once again there are changes all over the grounds of Lakeside.

Walls were knocked down, holes were dug, cement was poured and now we have a new entrance that's nearly complete.

A new Lakeside lawn monument was built and installed on Woodland Beach Road ... with backlights that shine at night.

Eight brand new staff faces have been added or replaced some familiar faces who were at Lakeside for years.

In May, 118 seniors left our nest and began new and exciting chapters in their lives. No more than 3 months later, 148 brand new, wide-eyed students appeared in our hallways. It aches my heart to see the nervousness in their faces, but thankfully that nervousness is replaced by smiles a week or so later.

Whether we want it or not, our lives are constantly changing. Sometimes change brings excitement and at other times change can bring fear and sadness.

We do have one entity that will never change: God and his Word. As Hebrews 13:8 states

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

That means Jesus' forgiveness for our sins is secured. Jesus will return to this earth and a perfect Heaven will be our home.

Fall Children's Theatre: Mr. Toad's Mad Adventures

We had such a fun time doing our first chidlren's theatre last fall, we're back and we'd love you to join us!

This fall's production is a delightful, upbeat version of the classic children's book, The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame, dramatized by Vera Morris.

Our eccentric but likable Toad of Toad Hall has a problem: he is obsessed with motorcars and ends up crashing them everywhere he goes! Despite the sincere efforts of his dear friends Badger, Rat and Mole, Toad’s madness gets the best of him and he ends up in jail for reckless driving after a hysterical episode with a judge. Toad’s enemies, the weasels couldn’t be happier to have him behind bars as they plot to overtake his estate, Toad Hall. Toad finally meets up with his friends again—what will their clever scheme be to recapture his home? Let the magic of Mr. Toad take you on a wild ride!

Soph Jackson Gleesing, junior Max Spinsky, and seniors Caleb Wensel and Elena Loest are the 4 fast friends. Joseph Metzger is the chief weasel baddie and has 5 troublemakers along for the ride: seniors Clara Grow and John Loest, junior Lars Strawn and freshmen Skyler Holz and Alexandria Kutz. They're supported by 21 other actors, from a housekeeper to businesspeople to field mice and foxes. Ask any one of them and they'll tell you how fun Lakeside theatre is, and how much they love putting on these performances for you! Hope to see you and whole family Nov. 2!

Why do you love theatre at Lakeside?

Joseph Metzger, class of 2025 and Chief Weasel

"I love theater because not only am I able to share the stage with some incredibly talented individuals, but I also get to express my love of music and glorify God with the gifts I’ve been given."

Elena Loest, class of 2025 and Mole, Toad's timid, gullible friend "Theater is unlike any other program at Lakeside! The actors and actresses truly become a close-knit family and have each other's backs no matter what. The experience is fun and exciting, but the real love is for the people and the bonds formed with them."

Alexandria Kutz, class of 2028 and trickster Weasel #3 "Performing since I was 8, I love theatre because it lets me express myself. I enjoy working with other people who enjoy doing the same thing that I do. And on top of everything, it is just a fun time."

A Core Advantage

focus on Christian servant-leadership

Warrior student-leader serves veterans

Junior Natalie Popp has been serving as Miss Madison's Teen this year. While volunteering at River Food Pantry as part of her duties,  she meant Lew, a veteran and who served in three wars—WWII, Korea, and was the oldest commander during Desert Storm. Lew's goal was to do 99 new things before he turned 100 in August, a goal he eclipsed by his birthday.

When Lew met Natalie, he mentioned that he was concerned that by 2030 there will be no surviving World War II veterans and they might be forgotten. Inspired by Lew's life and story— and to make sure those veterans would be remembered— Natalie wrote a children's book "Lew for the Red, White, and Blue," and Forever Warrior Anna Kreutz ('21) illustrated it. Natalie and Anna (pictured with Natalie below) attended Our Redeemer elementary school in Madison together. Natalie's mom Sarah says, "his story is one of service and love of country … he has accomplished some incredible things as he approached 100 years."

Natalie's journey of service involving veterans didn't begin with Lew. At Lakeside, Natalie organizes a Mail Drop for guests at our Veterans Day events; this year she's also made a tie blanket, to be given to a guest at our event this fall. Know a vet who would enjoy breakfast and a morning observing Veterans Day at Lakeside on Wednesday, November 6? Event info is at llhs.org/apps/pages/vetsday

why Lakeside is worth it

What about? SO MANY BOYS, SO MANY YEARS

As parents of five boys, Gordy (LL ‘81) and Danielle Schmidt have had their work cut out for them for more than 25 years. Enough said. But there's more. They also dug in deep as Warrior parents, committed to 13 years of tuition—and volunteering and lots of driving. But there’s more! Eight of those years carry double tuition. How can they possibly make that work, putting 5 boys through Lakeside from 2017-2030?

Students may select courses online for next school year beginning early December. Students must be enrolled before they can select courses.

Mr. Lauber administers math placement tests in December in area Lutheran elementary schools (call for appt. otherwise). LL Guidance is available upon request before online course selection. Scheduling assistance is also available upon request. See more at admissions on llhs.org

apply for aid (optional)

“Years of parenting taught us to be willing to accept any help available to develop well-rounded Christian young men,” Gordy shares. “It's a priority for us to put the boys in circumstances where their faith is cultivated and nurtured.” Danielle shares advice they received from other families in similar situations: “They told us, ‘You just figure it out.’ For us, growing the boys’ faith is the priority. The financial stuff? God helps us figure that out.”

You will receive an invitation in early January at the e-mail address you provided during enrollment. The e-mail will contain a link to follow should you wish to apply for financial aid. For this online aid application process, you will need your most recent tax return, paystub, and W-2 statement(s). To be eligible for the first round of awards, your financial aid application needs to be in by March 1; award notifications are issued in late spring.

So why is Lakeside worth it? Gordy explains: “The boys could play sports anywhere, get educated anywhere. At Lakeside they have daily devotions and prayers, regular chapel services. Students can lead worship, devotions and prayer. Devotions and prayer are part of every team.” Danielle adds, “Every day there are demonstrations of how faith intertwines with daily life. It’s clear that teachers and staff care about the whole person – faith, academics, physical and emotional well-being.”

Note: Applying for financial aid in PowerSchool is not the same process as applying for a Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) or Special Needs Scholarship Program (SNSP) voucher (see below). If applying for WPCP/SNSP, you are strongly encouraged to also apply for aid from Lakeside; however, those awarded a voucher are not eligible for additional aid.

e-sign your tuition agreement

Of "particular delight" to Gordy and Danielle have been the boys' Christian friends. An unexpected blessing was that their two alum found their future spouses at Lakeside too. “Knowing worldly challenges couples face, there is reassurance knowing faith is common ground for them and their fiancés,” says Danielle. For so many reasons, for so many years and so many boys, Lakeside is worth it.

You’ll receive an e-mail in summer that reminds you to go into your account to e-sign your billing agreement after July 1 and before the August registration nights when you visit campus.

about the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program

Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) offers families with limited resources the potential to receive a voucher for full tuition cost. The enrollment period is from early February to mid-April. Lakeside Lutheran is a choice school under the statewide WPCP.

A link to the DPI website that provides important information and access to the WPCP online application will be available under admissions on llhs.org early in the calendar year.

Lake Mills' Main Street is a great host for our class banners (themed with Disney Pixar movie characters) the Warrior Band, HoCo court on snazzy cars, Lakeside Larry, and many extracurricular and youth groups that join in the fun (and hand out ).
