Your Like-snow Advantage ...focus on the Great Exchange A message from Steve Lauber, Recruitment Director

One of the reasons I became a teacher was because I love snow days.

As a kid, I remember waking up early after a snowfall, hoping that our school would be announced on Fond du Lac’s KFIZ radio station.

We kids waited patiently as they read off the schools alphabetically, hoping to hear the following announcement: “St Peter’s Lutheran School, Fond du Lac: No school today.” I don’t know if there was anything better to hear as a kid than that. It meant sledding, snowmen, hot chocolate and no homework.

As an adult, I still get very excited for a snow day, sometimes even more than as a kid. Sleeping in, no work, bacon and eggs on the breakfast menu are all in my future.

However; there is one thing I actually like more than anything after the first heavy snow of the season. That’s opening the front curtains and looking out my bay window.

Overnight, my dirty, muddy, dead lawn has been transformed into a white wonderland with a beautiful blanket of snow. Piles of leaves, sticks and other debris that had been an eyesore, can no longer be seen. It's one of my favorite things to look at.

Psalm 51:7 Wash me with hyssop and I will be clean; wash me and I will be whiter than snow.

God reminds us in the Bible that Jesus covered up the sins of all people through his perfect life and death on the cross. Our dirty sins, the ugly debris of our lives, and our dead souls destined for hell have been covered.

Thank God for His grace. Through faith in Jesus we have been made cleaner and whiter than any snowfall. Getting a day off school is a nice bonus for being a teacher, but for believers in Jesus, eternal life after we leave this Earth is the greatest gift of all.

FREE STEM Workshop for GIRLS grades 1-8 This event is a great opportunity for girls of all ages to be introduced to the field of engineering, experiencing the fun of science, technology, engineering, and math. Make new friends and form new connections with other girls who have the same interests.

Saturday, March 2, 2024 | 9 am–noon | Registration closes February 23 Hosted by S.W.E.L.L. (Society of Women Engineers, LL chapter), a school club formed to promote the role of women in scientific fields, specifically engineering.

The LLHS STEM education teaches a national curriculum designed by Project Lead the Way (PLTW) that engages students in activities, projects, and problembased learning to focus on college and career goals. 82% of LLHS STEM Academy students testing under PLTW scored “accomplished” or “distinguished” in end-of-year assessments. Combined with an A/B in class, students qualify for internships, apprenticeships, and/or college credit at some schools.

High School course include: Engineering Essentials, Intro to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering & Aerospace Engineering

July 15–18 | STEM Camp for ALL, grades 5-8 Heading into its 8th summer, LLHS STEM Camp is conducted in the spacious, well-lit LLHS science and tech ed rooms, run by elementary and high school STEM teachers and assisted by older experienced teens.

Camp days have historically consisted of rotations among three distinct skill projects, with a group project at the end of each morning. Camp size is limited so all campers have room and opportunity to participate hands-on.

A Looping Advantage focus on video news made with you in mind

Have you seen the Lakeside Loop this year?

This school year brought a new season of the (almost) weekly Lakeside Loop, a student-run 10-12 minute videocast filled with all sorts of news that many elementary students enjoy. A recent $70,000 video studio remodel—where existing ceiling was removed; the studio was painted; 20' of upper and lower cabinets were added; 21 computer-controlled DMX lighting fixtures were installed for 3 new, custom-built interview sets; and we have a new "cyclorama" green screen set. If you haven't seen the studio, we look forward to showing it to you!

Maybe your school has been featured in the new "Federation Fly-by"—segments that feature events and activities from grade schools of Warrior teens? We've had a report on St. Paul, Lake Mills social studies fair, Veterans Day at Holy Cross in Madison, International Day at Peace Sun Prairie. Teachers are welcome to share ideas for future episodes with advisor, Mr. Todd Hackbarth, at thackbar@llhs.org.
