Where’s my power cord?

We live in a world that is dominated by cords and electricity.

Very few things are more important to most teenagers than making sure their phones have enough power to make it through each day.

Adults aren’t immune to that either. How many charging cords or stations do we have strategically placed around our houses? Many are within arm’s reach in case our power dips below 10%. We are obsessed with not letting our phone energy die down and eventually turn off.

Unfortunately, sometimes we are more worried about our cell phones and devices running down than our own faith. We have opportunities everywhere in today’s world to energize our faith—online devotions, podcasts, bible studies—all, literally, at the tips of our fingers, yet many of us forget—or neglect—to connect.

What a blessing teachers and students at Lakeside have—that opportunities for plugging into God’s Word are part of the daily structure. Whether it’s a 43-minute religion class that juices up faith, a 20-minute assembly chapel where 475 souls are energized together, a 7-minute intercom devotion that recharges spirits, or a 30-second lunch prayer that reminds us where everything comes from, we are beyond privileged to both learn and teach inside a framework that emphasizes the need to stay connected to our Savior in thoughts, words and actions.

Yes, keep your cell phone powered up and ready to use at all times, but never forget about the most important thing that we have from the Holy Spirit—faith in Jesus. That’s where the real power is.

Each January, hundreds of 7th graders visit campus for “Warrior for a Day.” Pastor Don Schultz, Assistant Principal for Student Life, led chapel this year (pictured above at right). There, with the help of freshmen Ethan Hoyt (St. Paul, Lake Mills, standing with lights around his neck) and Jonathan Schmidt (St. Luke, Watertown, sitting), he shared a message from Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” He shared how—every day at Lakeside—we get to plug into the power of God, which never runs out!

A 7th Grade Advantage ...focus on Warrior for a Day

Warrior for a Day—and possibly for a lifetime!

For 7th graders, coming to Warrior for a Day means a day out of their classrooms, which has its own advantages. Still, we wanted to highlight what life is like in our classrooms. So on a Wednesday in January, we took the opportunity to show over 200 students from 18 Federation schools the Lakeside Advantage!

They attended 10 classes including history, where Mr. Doering took them back to the Oklahoma land rush. In tech ed with Mr. Meske, they wired a switch and lamp base to light up an LED bulb. In art class, students created a drawing based on a sketch of their hand. In phy ed, current Warriors led them through a workout.

They also experienced engineering, physics, world languages, senior religion class and even more.

The day included—like every day at Lakeside—a devotion (see p. 2) and encouragement to stay close to Jesus.

Unlike every day at Lakeside, after a pizza lunch, they headed to Watertown for an afternoon of rollerskating and socializing with other students from more than a couple dozen zip codes.

In just over a year, these students will be off to high school. We were privileged to have a day to show them that the Lakeside advantage is that—whether learning, teaching, leading, performing or working out—the goal here is to use God’s gifts to the full, all to his glory.

That’s a lifelong advantage.

A 4th Grade Advantage

...focus on field trips with Warrior flair

Over 13 school days in October–November last fall, your Lakeside Lutheran welcomed 4th graders (and some 3rd gr. split classes) from 14 schools to campus for fun and education.

First, there was chapel with 475+ Warriors! Afterward, they posed for a photo with high schooler “alum” from their school.

Then it was videography class with Mr. Hackbarth. Each 4th grade class had been given homework before their visit—they needed to bring some footage from their city and a brief script that described recent activities at their grade school. Using these, Mr. Hackbarth helped them create “Federation Flybys”—videos about their schools that were featured on several episodes of the Loop, our weekly video newscast (see below).

To burn off some energy—and to learn how Warriors get and stay strong and healthy—students headed to the weightroom

Summer 2022: Warrior Marching Band takes a new route Great news! In addition to a June of six local parades, the 2022 trip plan is set: we’re marching a new route this summer from July 2-10, hitting northern Wisconsin for holiday parades in Eagle River, St. Germaine, Tomahawk and Minoqua, plenty of fun & adventures with friends interspersed, and then 2 parades at the Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan, July 7-9. It’s going to be a fantastic mix of brand new experiences and awesome repeats! Freshmen in fall 2022 are welcome as instrumentalists, flags or honor guard.
