Brewers stars combine to throw no-hitter On April 15, 1987, when I was 17 years old and a junior at Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac, Wis., Juan Nieves, a Brewers pitcher, threw a no-hitter.

It has taken the Brewers over 34 years to throw another one, but on Sept. 11, 2021, Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader combined to throw the team’s second no-hitter.

Reaching excellence in what you do usually takes work, time, and determination to achieve your goals. The Brewers are an example of this.

Here at Lakeside, we strive to cultivate excellence in all that we do, whether it be as staff or students, whether in academics, athletics, arts, or service–anything we put our time and efforts toward. It’s a worthwhile endeavor that can bring satisfaction to ourselves and glory to our God. (See more on excellence on page 7.)

Even so, it is important to know that our greatest goal is not to teach our students to be perfect in all they do, but to rely on the ONE that achieved that perfection for us. Because of God’s perfection in keeping all of His promises to us, and Jesus’ perfection in this life that secures our salvation, we are winners for this life as well as in eternity.

Two no-hitters from my team in my lifetime seems like heaven. Eternal life, secured by our Savior, really IS heaven, the only thing that really matters in the end.

Our most recent magazine contest challenged K-8 students to send in a pet photo that featured Warrior gear (see page 4 for other submissions). St. Paul, Lake Mills 7th grader Natalie Schultz (along with her cat!) used the opportunity to send a shout out to a classmate of her Warrior sister who experienced a serious accident while boating in August. Junior Jonah Heyerholm has been in Warrior family thoughts, prayers and actions ever since as he travels the long road to recovery.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S PEN: “Though we are the furthest from Lakeside in our federation, we encourage all families to explore LL as an option to further their children’s Christian education after WCS. As our school has been blessed with tremendous growth in the past few years, we find more and more families looking for options to teach their faith and values in school; these families ask about Lakeside as well.

“We emphasize the ways in which families make this work in their busy lives, specifically related to busing or carpools for extra-curriculars. For families with less connection to current LL students, we put them in touch with other parents who can speak from experience and answer questions. All of our students look forward to when they can attend 7th grade Warrior for a Day. WARRIOR FALL CONCERT FEAT. LES CADET BAND Sun, Nov. 7 2p East gym 1st-year musicians perform for family & friends in the band room on Sat. Nov. 6 at 9:45 am. Elementary Cadets & color guard join the LLHS Fall Concert to perform their own selections as well as joint selections with the high school band. Warrior Band and Swing Choir also perform.

7TH GRADE “WARRIOR FOR A DAY“ Wednesday, January 19 | school day

We’re excited to give 7th graders an opportunity to visit us for a full day of activities—to become more familiar with campus and what we offer for classes and co-currics, as well as opportunity to meet their peers from other LLHS Federation schools.

We’re back for our 8th (almost) annual morning of fun and learning for some of the youngest lambs in our Federation schools, as they cycle through physical & educational activities, led by our own Warrior teens.

STEM WORKSHOP FOR K-8 GIRLS Saturday, March 5 | 9a–noon

Join us on campus for our free STEM Girls Workshop to experience the fun of science, technology, and engineering. Hosted by the Lakeside chapter of Society of Women Engineers, girls of all ages will be introduced to the field of engineering while having fun using science and math.

Mr. Meske and the LL tech ed teens offer another spring break camp where middle schoolers can experience and learn skills of wood- & metalworking, CAD & 3D printing & more in a safe and fun environment.

Do you sing, play piano or another instrument? Are you in band or choir? Fine Arts Fest invites all 5–8th graders to gain experience in front of judges on Saturday, then join other choirs & bands in Sunday’s concerts.

Our championship Warrior Forensics team is hosting an F&F night on campus as our team prepares for its state meet that weekend. Hear several stories, speeches, comedic and dramatic sketches, poetry, radio speaking and more! It’s a fantastic (and free!) night of fun.
