Your 6-Word Advantage
...focus on the One Thing Needful
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six. Yes, that is what I said. Let me say it a different way.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. What could you say with only 6 words? (See p. 5 for a contest for you to try!) It got me thinking about 6 words that would totally sum up what we do here at Lakeside. I had a hard time deciding, so I’m sharing a few of my tries. ;; Try #1- Educate, Encourage, Equip—for Life, Eternity ;; Try #2- Academics, Athletics, Arts, Technology, Love GOD ;; Try #3- Teachers, Students, Staff, Believers in Jesus ;; Try #4- Nurses, Carpenters, Teachers, Farmers, Colleges, Graduation ;; Try #5- STEM, History, Literature, Fitness, Welding, Bible ;; Try #6- Parents, Children, Churches, Grade Schools, Faith And then ... I wondered what 6 words would effectively sum up the Bible. Even though the Bible is a very big book—over 727,969 words in the NIV version!—I thought I’d give it a shot.
;;Try #1- I Know That My Redeemer Lives That was much easier! Don’t you think those 6 words sum it up very well? What a comfort knowing that God sent his Son into this world to die on the cross for our sins and then rise on the third day, showing that his work of redeeming believers from hell was complete. Whether you’re 6 years old, 16 years old, or 96 years old, there is no other message that we need in this world to be reminded of daily. May God Bless your Easter celebration. steve lauber, admissions director

Your Out-of-Desk Advantage ...focus on variety in approaches to learning
hands-on learning Teachers know that students need to have a variety of material presented in a variety of different ways to achieve the best learning, but you certainly can have preferences in the classroom! Whether you prefer “visual,” “auditory” or “kinesthetic” learning, Lakeside has plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy high school classes. Some of these examples of kinesthetic, or hands-on, learning that our Warriors experience might even surprise you.
Computer essentials Freshmen spend part of the semester programming “spherobots” and then racing them.
Tech ed
Whether you love woodworking, small engines, or metals, you’ll find these are the ultimate hands-on classes.
Videography Students plan, record, edit, and produce a wide-range of interesting videos.
Government Seniors spend time practicing debate skills and team up to run mock presidential elections.
World Languages German students celebrate Geburtstage (birthdays) when they pick themes, send invites, and talk party talk.
STEM Academy Aerospace Engineering students design and 3D-print airfoils and test them with our wind tunnel. The unit on flight wraps with a solo flight simulation. Engineering Essentials students (mostly freshmen) test the strength of 3D-printed parts as they design a container for disaster survival materials.
that’s just a sampling ... don’t forget Foods, PhyEd, Art, Band & more!

B-I-N-G-O!
In our last Advantage mag contest, we played a gigantic game of B-I-N-G-O. We encouraged you to have fun, serve others, and focus on Jesus! (And there was a lot cake baking going on—YUM.) We had so much fun we opened it up to all our Instagram followers— but only the K-8 Warriors could win prizes! Thanks to everyone who submitted their BINGO card or sent a photo from one of the activities.
Congrats to our BINGO contest winners!

* Have you ever met our awesome Warrior librarian, Mrs. Huska? She has served students and staff at your Lakeside since 1992! She’s retiring this spring, but she’s agreed—as one of her last official acts for us—to select the top three stories. She knows good stories better than anyone around here! Winners’ parents will be notified by Mr. Lauber by 5/17/21 at the phone or email provided with entry.
Your FAQ Advantage
...focus on more questions answered
“"Ask Mr. Lauber" Continued Every family has questions when they join the Lakeside family. Some questions are factual. Some are emotional. Here are some questions families ask as they are becoming Warriors. Do you have other questions about Lakeside? Mr. Lauber LOVES to answer them or get Warrior teens to give their input. Contact him at slauber@llhs.org or give him a call at 920-648-2321 x2218
I’m nervous about a new school. Is it hard to meet new friends? • •
It is definitely not hard to meet new people. The environment at Lakeside is very open and friendly from students and teachers alike. Just talk to people and do not be afraid and you’ll be fine. Austin S. ‘22, Fort Atkinson Don’t you worry about starting high school or being nervous if you’re going to meet new friends. There are well over 100 freshmen each year going through the same thing. When you’re walking the hall, just talk to whoever is by your side. I guarantee you’ll make friends. Abigail M. ‘23, Watertown
Do I have to take music/choir every year? Not every year. Freshmen can choose to have choir every other day, band every day, or band and choir if they want. After freshman year, no music is required, but quite a few students take music electives every year.
What about a second language? Some of our students choose not to ever take a world language because it doesn’t fit in with their future plans. Most students who plan to attend a four-year university or college take at least two years of a world language because many colleges require it for enrollment. We offer four years of Spanish and German and two years of Latin.
How many electives do I get to pick each year? Freshmen have 2 electives (6 required classes both semesters); sophomores have 2.5-3 electives each semester (5.5 and 5 required); juniors have 3 electives each semester (5 required); and seniors have 6 electives each semester (only 2 required, but some of the electives need to be in certain departments (i.e., English and Social Studies). Many students choose Study Hall for one of their electives, but it’s not required.
How do I get home if I’m in extracurriculars after school? If you live farther away, it’s a lot for your parents to take you home after every practice. It’s easy to get into a carpool with other families, plus most juniors and seniors can drive too. There are many kids in these activities. Find someone who lives near you and work something out. Somebody’s always willing to help. Ben B. ‘23, Oconomowoc
Is financial aid available? Yes! Based on a family’s annual income, about 25% of Lakeside families qualify for the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, which pays for the entire amount of tuition. Other families receive tuition assistance offered by Lakeside’s financial aid fund
Mr. Lauber, how come it seems like you never age? Physically, I actually do age. Mentally, I’ll probably always be about 15 years old. page 6 • The Lakeside Advantage • 2021 Issue 1
Your Camp Advantage ...focus on fun that builds skills
I CAMP believe you’re not signed up yet Get ready for summer fun! “We are looking forward to opening our campus fully this summer for an array of activities including summer camps,” says Mr. Todd Jahns, LLHS Activities Director. “It’s a great opportunity to spend time being active in sports or activities that you love.” No matter your interest level or ability, whether you want to improve your skills or just spend time having fun with other campers, Lakeside’s camps will be a perfect fit. “At our sports camps, you work with and learn directly from varsity coaches in a structured Christian teaching environment that is also filled with fun and exciting games and challenges. High school athletes also participate, sharing their knowledge and experiences with campers and creating a bond that lasts beyond the camp experience,” says Jahns.
