“What is impossible with men is possible with God.” Luke 18:27 The NCAA Basketball Tournament is one of the highlights of my year. Over 40 million people enjoy filling out brackets and trying to predict who will win each game.

However, the odds of getting every pick correct in your bracket is nearly impossible—a staggering 1 in 128 billion, according to a DePaul University professor.

There are many other long-shots in our world today. Buying the winning Powerball ticket is

about 1 in 175 million; being an NBA draft pick is at about 1 in 12,000; and the odds of finding a 4-leaf clover in your lawn are close to 1 in 10,000.

But the odds were stacked against us from the beginning. Because of Adam and Eve’s sin, we were sinful from birth. We were immediate failures before our lives even began.

Thankfully, as Christians, we don’t rely on ourselves and our own decisions and intelligence when it comes to eternal life.

Through the work of Jesus, and by our baptism and faith in God’s promises, we have a 100% guarantee of going to heaven at the end of our lives.

Keeping our faith strong throughout our grade school and high school years can give us the sure foundation we need to stay strong in this life.

Picking all of the winners in the NCAA tournament or winning the lottery may be nearly impossible. But through Christ’s work, we are already more than conquerors here on earth and one day we will be champions in heaven.

World languages give our students a competitive edge in their career choices.

Students selected to the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP, also known as School Choice) receive a voucher from the state that pays tuition in full. Eligibility essentially comes down to meeting residency and income requirements. The open application period runs through April 20 for 2017-18. Students entering 9th grade in fall of 2017 and those transferring from a public high school or another choice school at any grade level are eligible to apply for a voucher. The Great Chewdown On Sunday, February 19, 2017, during the grade school basketball tournament, we had eight Lakeside students participate in a one-minute donut-eating exhibition.

Students in K–8 were invited to guess how many donuts these teens would be able to tackle combined in one minute. Winners who guessed the closest—without busting— won some cool stuff, even a $200 tuition voucher for one good guesser!

The answer?

Think it's low? We did too!

The winners? A tie among three entries with a guess of 40 donuts 1. Joey Dretske, Eastside (5th grade) Joey won the tuition voucher with a random draw from the three winners

They were part of the state champion Warrior Forensics team's Family & Friends Night last spring, held as the team was preparing to take their oratory presentations, such as this Playacting piece, to the state festival. The team is at it again this spring. You're welcome to join us on campus Wednesday, April 19, from 6–8 PM, for this free exhibition of more than a dozen forensics categories including Playacting, Storytelling, Radio Speaking, Farrago and more.

Your Federation Advantage focus on St. John, Juneau

A PARTNER IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION! In 2006, St. John had strong & active supporters of Christian education, but the number of Juneau students at LLHS was low. Putting money where mouths were, the church budget began to include $250 for families with students not just at LLHS, but also to LPS, MLC and WLS. The families of St. John also use their local SCRIP program to assist families at all levels of Christian education. And the distance issue? They rally to establish carpools each year. “We have a long way to go, but it's a joy to journey together with God and fellow believers,” says Principal Cody.

FROM A ST. JOHN PARENT WHO SAID YES "The teenage years are some of the toughest. Our kids are figuring out who they are and where they fit in. We wanted an environment where they would continue to hear God speak to them, not one that would make them question everything they've learned about their Creator, Redeemer and Preserver, or send mixed messages about their identity. We wanted Christ at the center of their education, because that's where He belongs in our lives. Too often we forget that this life is only temporary, that we have an ultimate goal, which is heaven.

Jesus said the road is narrow, but if we let Him be our children's guide, we know that he will lead them safely there. It is a big commitment, both of our time and our finances, but isn't this all that really matters?"

Your Winning Advantage focus on making memories

ANOTHER FUN & EXCITING WARRIOR LES BASKETBALL TOURNEY! This year's A-team tournament featured 36 boys' and girls' teams from 19 area Lutheran elementary schools, from the Janesville Mustangs to the Beaver Dam Raiders, from the Pardeeville Jaguars to the Oconomowoc Cards. With teams seeded by coaches into blue and gold brackets, 52 games were spread across three days and three sites.

Basketball fans were not at a loss for entertainment February 17–19. Thanks to all who played, coached & watched!

We love having guests! Students 6th grade and above are always welcome to visit campus or shadow a current student to see if LLHS is a good fit. Those shadowing are also welcome to use our bus system that day. Seventh grader Will Popp, from Our Redeemer, Madison, shadowed recently. Here’s what his mom wrote about the experience:
