LLHS FED eration CON nection

Why is the sky grey and or hazy when there are no clouds? I used to wonder about that, until I learned about Canadian forest fires. These last few summers smoke from these northern forest fires have traveled all the way to southern Wisconsin, filling the air with the smell of campfires. It’s strange to me how we have all gotten used to the idea of “air quality alerts.” I prefer the blue sky over the smoky white.

Did you know that the Bible pictures you “producing smoke” as your prayers rise up to the throne of God? While smoke is not my favorite thing, it is a symbol of our requests rising up to our heavenly Father: “The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand” (Revelation 8:4). God loves to see the smoke of our prayers rise before him! The Psalmist says, “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice” (Psalm 141:2). In the Old Testament, the incense smoke filled the air and rose up to heaven, symbolizing the prayers of God’s people ascending to Him. Are you producing a lot of smoke this summer? I have to admit, I don’t pray as much as I would like. I find it much easier to complain, rather than to offer up to God my frustrations. I am overly self-reliant as I try to solve all of my own problems, rather than God-reliant as I give my problems to him. Maybe you are too?

God loves it when we pray. The more we pray, the more smoke we send up to the throne of God. Can you picture God saying to one of his angels, “Who is producing all of this smoke before my throne?” as you pray and pray and pray. Jesus has opened the door to heaven to us by his death on the cross for our sins. He has reserved a place in heaven for us by his resurrection from the dead. Jesus even gives us a “blank check” promise about prayer when he says, “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” (John 14:14).

May God bless you as you offer your “smoky prayers” up to God! We may not be very fond of smoke here on earth. But God delights in the incense of your prayers as they reach his throne in heaven. God is always ready to listen and answer every single one of your prayers! ❧DS

Warrior Band makes national news

NBC Nightly News’ closing segment on July 6 featured our Warriors in the Bristol, RI parade as part of its Independence Day celebrations video clip, and we had folks from both coasts letting us know we were seen! Almost 100 marchers and chaperones were on the East Coast from June 30-July 14, earning rave reviews from cheering sidewalk crowds as well as Canadians who reached out privately to thank us, such as the Stratford, Ontario resident who wrote: “Your students participating in this parade was a highlight of the parade for us. What an amazing performance ... It was so moving to see you include our flag alongside yours.” The band marched in 8 parades in 8 days from June 28July 5, with a 29-day summer total of 13 parades, including the last parade in Maine on July 12 that’s been dubbed the Moxie Monsoon—1.07” of rain in 45 min. during the parade!

Another unFOREgettable golf outing

On July 11, our Warrior Club held its 30th annual golf outing at Kestrel Ridge golf course in Columbus, when the Lord held off the rain just long enough to golf!. We had 135 golfers (and over 150 dinner guests) join to beat the organizers’ $25K goal ... with $25,891.43 raised!

Thanks to all of our golfers, student and adult volunteers, and generous donors and hole & flag sponsors, as well as Platinum sponsor Air Control Heating & Cooling, Gold sponsors Design2Construct and Quality Power Solutions, Silver sponsor Twice is Nice Resale and Beverage sponsor Heckmann Financial.
