Fairs, Festivals, Farmers’ Markets & Oven Mitts
It’s fair and festival season! In Lake Mills, the downtown square has come alive with white canopies as vendors line the sidewalks for farmers markets and festivals. Do you enjoy walking through these kinds of events?

One thing I’ve noticed as I’ve walked from booth to booth: everyone has a passion. The woodworker displays his cutting boards of various shapes and sizes. The next booth displays home-made jewelry. Next comes the unique sweatshirts, cup holders, cat toys, and dog treats. Everyone has a passion!
The oven mitt lady at the most recent festival was very passionate. I didn’t plan to look at the oven mitts that day. But the host of that display was so energetic and talkative as she drew us into the world of oven mitts. Her passion was contagious, and soon, I was the happy owner of a wide variety of new and unique pairs of oven mitts.
What’s your passion? Here’s one I hope you have—a passion to grow closer to Jesus Christ! The Apostle Paul talked about that passion when he said:
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12-14)

June 30–July 11
You can summarize Paul’s passion in two words: “Pursue Jesus.” Paul was “pressing on” or pursuing a closer and closer relationship with Jesus, with the ultimate goal of being with Jesus in heaven. That is a worthwhile passion to pursue! You’ll hear more about this idea of “pursuing Jesus” during the upcoming school year, as PURSUE is the new school year theme.
Here’s my encouragement to you this summer: Pursue Jesus! As you attend fairs, festivals, and farmers markets, you’ll notice what people are passionate about - oven mitts, candles, spices, birdhouses—you name it. But remember, the greatest passion one can ever have is the pursuit of Jesus.
That’s what Lakeside is all about. May that be what you’re all about too. ❧DS

LL Class of 2026 member is crowned
“Out of a field of 24 contestants, Natalie Popp [LL class of 2026] from Fitchburg [Our Redeemer, Madison] has been crowned Miss Wisconsin’s Teen 2025
“Natalie was given the title during the competition in New Berlin on Friday. She now has the chance to compete for the title of Miss America’s Teen 2026.
“The 17-year-old is a lifelong theater performer and sang “Journey to the Past” during the talent phase of the competition.
“Another passion of Natalie’s is showing support for veterans. ‘Teens for Heroes’, her community service initiative, aims at educating students about showing support for active military and veterans.”
(From a June 21 news report at wmtv15news.com)
Natalie is the Lakeside student instrumental initiating the Forever Warrior Wall of Honor project as a tribute to our alum veterans. With a goal of installation later this summer, alum vets and those currently serving in all military branches are warmly encouraged to add their information so that a plaque can be included on this wall display in the main hallway at LLHS.
