“I

love this cold weather! “

I know we are supposed to complain about the cold weather this time of the year. But I don’t mind it. In fact, I enjoy the cold weather (most of the time).

I know it’s harder to start cars this time of year. And if you’re wearing shorts and a t-shirt, it’s uncomfortable when you go outside.

But there is an upside to the cold weather. Less allergies! No yardwork! If you do a Google search for “Blessings of cold weather” you will learn that many believe that our brains function better in the cold weather. (That’s why you are so sharp this time of the year!) Some studies show that we learn more and study better in cold weather (good news for schools in Wisconsin).

If you work inside for a good part of the day, you don’t have to wrestle with those guilty thoughts like, “I should be outside instead of in this office.”

The number one blessing of cold weather is that there are less distractions from the Word of God. If it’s cold outside - I will read more. And of all the things to read, I will read the Bible more. I will pray more. I will have less

“options” on a Sunday morning that get in the way of going to church.

Psalm 119 says, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long” (vs. 97). Take advantage of this cold weather and meditate on God’s Word. Hunker down in your house and grow closer to your Lord and Savior. Jesus lived and died and rose, and there is no better activity than to grow in the Word that He has given to us.

“It’s cold outside!” Then I will stay inside. And I will read God’s Word. This is Lakeside’s encouragement to its students. And it’s my encouragement to you! ❧DS
