Thinking about the Christian Flag

Flag Day is coming up on June 14. I’m all about flying the American flag. God bless our country!

Have you ever pondered the Christian flag before? Its colors are red, white, and blue as well. There is a red cross in the upper left corner. Why a red cross? Red symbolizes the blood of Jesus, shed on that cross to take away our sins.

The red cross is located in a blue square. Why blue? Some say that blue symbolizes the waters of baptism. Your life is connected to the cross of Jesus through baptism. Others say that blue represents God’s faithfulness —he will always keep his promises to you. Perhaps you can combine those two explanations into one—the color blue

The rest of the flag is a solid white. The symbol? Purity. Jesus was the pure and holy Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world. You become pure as Jesus takes away your sins and gives you his righteousness.

With all the flags you’ll see this summer, don’t forget the Christian flag! Try to find one. Ask the people you’re with if they know what the flag symbolizes. It’s so simple, but think of how deep the meaning behind the Christian flag. Jesus died and rose for you. Your faithful God and Savior is connected to you in baptism! Jesus has given his holiness to you!

Happy Flag Day! DS

Lakeside Lutheran received the Sportsmanship Award for the 2024 Boys State Basketball tournament. This award from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), in cooperation with Rural Mutual Insurance, is a prestigious honor that recognizes the entire Lakeside community—team, coaches, administration, office staff, students, band, dance team, parents, supporting fans, supervisors, chaperones. Reps from WIAA and Rural Insurance visited campus May 15 to present the entire school assembly the award.

Activities Director and Head Coach Todd Jahns says, “In a tangible and noticeable manner, the Lord used a basketball stage for all of us in a small way to serve Him, to share our ministry, and to positively impact people.” This is Lakeside!
