“Man Proposes, God Disposes”
We are heading into the graduation season again. Remember when you were 18 years old, graduating from high school? Did you know what you wanted to do with your life at that time? Did the life-plan you designed as a senior in high school turn out exactly as you had expected? Maybe it did! Or maybe your plans changed multiple times as you experienced unexpected events in your life.
“Man proposes, God disposes” is an old saying that means that we can plan, but. But what? But sometimes God changes our plans. Sometimes God has better plans than what we had imagined with our limited minds. God loves us—he sent his Son to save us—and he wants what is best for our eternal souls. We can make earthly plans, and God promises to bless those plans. But sometimes, God blesses our plans by changing them for our good.

Better than the old saying quoted above is this Bible passage from Proverbs 16:9: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” Isn’t it comforting to know that the Lord, the One who always keeps his promises, the One who loves you, will “establish your steps” as you go through life? He will bless you. He will establish you. It’s a promise.
May God bless the plans of our Lakeside graduates as they enter a new stage of life! And may God bless whatever plans you’re making as well. God’s ultimate plan is that you will grow in your faith and enter eternal life.
Man proposes, God disposes? God doesn’t just dispose. He establishes. He blesses. He takes care of you! ❧DS

class of ‘24 academic top ten
Celebrate the academic gifts of the top ten in the class of 2023. Cole Teteak (St. Andrew, Middleton) is the valedictorian. The salutatorian is Maria Vik (St. Paul, Fort Atkinson). The remaining members of the Top Ten in rank order are Freidrich Weittenhiller (Peace, Sun Prairie), Megan Huber (Zion, Columbus), Samuel Schmidt (Peace, Janesville), Ambria McCrary (Peace, Sun Prairie), Kieghtan Rank (Eastside, Madison), Hayden Schoenherr (Peace, Sun Prairie), Mia Teteak (St. Andrew, Middleton), and Caitlin Weiland (Zion, Columbus).
Congratulations to this group of academic leaders!

Based on GPA, they averaged over a 4.0. Together, the Top Ten have taken 31 AP courses. Besides the Top Ten, this particular class of 2024 as a whole is very gifted academically. There are 11 additional students of the 118 total grads who have a GPA of over 3.9.
The top 27% of the class has a GPA over 3.75 (High Honors). The top half of the class has a GPA over 3.5.
These high grades show that God has given many academic gifts to this particular class. These high grades also show that students are putting forth high effort to use their gifts to the best of their abilities. We thank God for every student here at Lakeside and pray that God would bless each student as they discover the gifts that God has given to them, and then use them to his glory.

lakeside breaks ground
Lakeside Lutheran recently broke ground on a building expansion and renovation. The project includes a more prominent main entrance and front lawn monument, a cafeteria and front office renovation and expansion, as well as renovated lobby restrooms. Existing interior renovations are expected to be done in time for the start of next school year; the entire project has a December 2024 planned completion date. The school held a small ceremonial groundbreaking on April 10, when administration, student and governing board representatives, as well as reps from general contractor Design 2 Construct (D2C), and major contributor Twice is Nice Resale Store, gathered to ask for God’s blessing on the undertaking. Principal Don Schultz reminded those gathered of the words of Solomon in Psalm 127, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” “This project involves an expansion of our cafeteria to resolve an issue of overcrowding,” explains Executive Director Kirk DeNoyer. “It will almost double its size, pushing
cafeteria space south out to the current sidewalk. Along with that, we’re extending the kitchen to have a place for parent and community groups to host meals at events.” DeNoyer also refers to a common misperception, that the more eastern front doors are often thought to be the main entrance. “A new prominent front entryway means when visitors come to campus, they know exactly where to go. We want to give them a great first impression,” he says.
This project is the second phase of a renovation and upgrade plan called “Free to Act.” Begun in 2021 after the last mortgage was satisfied, planners began reviewing the condition of the campus with a goal to achieve as many as possible improvements without the need for a new mortgage. After faculty and staff input and governing board discussion, school administration developed a multi-year, three-phase plan. “Free to Act Phase 1” ran from 2021-2023 and included a faculty workroom update, locker room renovation, media center/study hall remodel, improved visitor seating for

Participants in the ceremonial groundbreaking were (from left) Todd Grundman, LL Director of Operations; Rachel Steindorf, President of Good Stewards, Inc. (governing board of Twice is Nice Resale); Pastor Don Schultz, LL Principal; Kooper Mlsna, Student Body President; Terry Koth, D2C VP of Operations; Glenn Lassanske, Chairman, LL Board of Regents; Mark Hertzfeldt, D2C Architect; Bruce Davis, LL Development Director; and Kirk DeNoyer, LL Executive Director.

the outdoor competition field, a West Gym renovation, and videography studio remodel. Together these cost just over $1.2 million and were successfully completed by 2023 without a loan. The current project, “Free to Act Phase 2,” with planning begun in 2023, carries a $3.5M cost, with 80% secured through private donations prior to groundbreaking.
