LLHS FED eration CONnection I can’t believe it’s snowing in April
Why are we always so surprised when it snows in April? It’s Wisconsin. We experience days when it’s warm and sunny— almost picture perfect. And then comes the bitter cold, windy, snowy weather. It happens every year. And yet, we say, “I can’t believe that it’s so warm in March! But now I need a winter coat! How can this be?”
Are we really surprised? Or do we just like to complain? I wonder if it comes down to wishful thinking. We wish the weather was always good and always predictable—but that isn’t always the case.
Do you know what is always good and always predictable? God’s love for you. Every day, God’s love for you is the same: “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him” (Psalm 103). You might experience wishful thinking about the weather. But you never have to wish that God would love you! God’s love is shining down on you every day, whether the sun is shining or not! This is true, even on days when it “feels like” God doesn’t love you. When you

sin, and you doubt that God still loves you, God says to you: “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103). Your sins are always forgiven. Your soul is always loved. On good days and bad, when you feel it and when you don’t. Wouldn’t it be great if this spring we always had great weather? Maybe that will happen, maybe it won’t. Wouldn’t it be great if God always loved us and forgave us? God will always love and forgive us. His love is better and more predictable than the weather! ❧DS
