IT ' S A LAND OF TOYS

Lake Mills is the Land of Toys. I noticed that as I filled up my car at a popular gas station in town on a Saturday morning. It was a very busy place, filled with a variety of speedboats, fishing boats, pontoon boats, and jet skis—all pulled by $50,000 (give or take) trucks.

For those not interested in water sports, there were also ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, and 2- and 3-wheel motorcycles getting fueled up for the day. All of these people had to watch out because the RVs (fifth wheels, motorhomes, campers) were pulling into the gas station as well, and you didn’t want to get in their way. Every so often, a small vehicle with a kayak or a paddleboard would dart between the pickup trucks, trailers and RVs.

It was all quite a sight. Every form of motorized recreation was there—all getting gassed up for a day of fun in sunny Lake Mills.

I’m not criticizing anyone who has these toys sitting in their driveway! If God has blessed you with the means to purchase and operate one of these (or maybe a few!)— may God bless your recreation!

But let that not be where you get your source of self-worth: “I am somebody, because of my shiny boat!” Or… “I’m nobody, because all I have is this lousy kayak.”

Whether you own a pontoon or a paddle board, a Harley or a bicycle—you are somebody because of your Savior Jesus Christ. God “highly favors” you (Luke 1:28) and has paid a great price for you! You were bought “not with gold or silver, but with the precious blood of Christ, a Lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:18). You are priceless in God’s eyes, and he deeply cares about you. Remember that, the next time you compare your neighbor’s speedboat to yours —or, the next time that speedboat pulls up next to your old, rundown car. You are spiritually rich because Jesus has given you salvation! And that is why you are somebody.

Congratulations to our Boys Track & Field team— 2023 Division 2 State Champions!

Wrapping up the school year

▶ Graduation was again outdoors on the competition field. In this class, 41 seniors reported over $3 million in renewable and one-time scholarship offers from individuals, foundations, organizations, and the schools they applied to attend. Of the 98 grads, 80 have indicated plans to continue education at 4-year colleges or tech schools, one plans to enter the military, one to an apprenticeship, and 16 expect to enter the workforce.

▶ Warrior TechEd students took 2nd of 6 teams at Metal Mania at Madison College in Fort. The theme was “Wisconsin Wildlife” and our teens got creative with a turkey Congrats to Sydney Schultz [St. John, Watertown], Brayden Luebke, Alex Isham [Trinity, Watertown], Landon Smillie, and Beckham Quamme [Bethany, Fort].

▶ For Mental Health Awareness Month, 50+ Warriors were involved with info sharing and homeroom conversations about topics facing teens today. School counselor Hannah Uher [Peace, Sun Prairie] and teacher Jenny Krauklis [St. Paul, Lake Mills] facilitated, which was featured on the Varsity Brands Student Empowerment Summit online

▶ Summer Operation Go teams are out and about! Our 8-student team in Utah were part of a group of 70 people from around the country participating with Truth In Love Ministry. Ten more spent a week at Shepherd of the Hills in West Bend to run a soccer camp with former LLHS teacher Pastor Clark Schultz. 120 young campers learned that Jesus saves— and had some soccer fun too.

▶ Warrior Band is marching proud! After seven local parades in June, they’re off to Mt. Rushmore and the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, July 1-15. Follow their travels at llhs.org/apps/ pages/summerband
